Before someone asks, yes I think the 12yo is 50% better than this.

The age of this is guessed at around 4yo.

But like all things, taste is subjective and your opinion may vary.

EDIT: Should we have a firstchoice clickfrenzy mega post instead of one per item?

    • There is no solid statement that No Age whiskies would be around less than 5yo. No ones know for sure. :-)

      • Scotch has to be 3 years old by law there, no laws in Japan, so who knows. When I was at the Suntory distillery a guy asked and they said around 4 and older.

3 years, 4 years, 5 years, same shit really.

        • not really. 3 years aged in hokkaido probably isn't the same as if they somehow warehoused it in okinawa for 3 years (not that they do)

There are better aged Scotch whiskys than this for the same or less money. The 12 year old is lovely. This is less lovely by a fair margin.

    • I love Yamazaki 12 (and 18 when I can afford it), but this one is not good at all for the money. I tried it once and will never buy it again.

  • How much would these be duty free? I can't seem to find the duty free pricing as I'm flying out soon

    • They don't stock at duty free.

  • What's a shame is how good Japanese whisky has suddenly become more expensive over the last couple of years. I remember being able to buy this same one about three years ago for less than $90 at shelf price.

    • That would be the 12yo.. Which retails around $200 now.
      It is a shame. I bought a hibiki 17 today for $330.
Bought a hibiki 17 about 5 years ago in Japan for around $120.

      • bought Hibiki 17 in DM approx $190 3 yrs ago….

bought Yamazaki 18 in Jap approx $300 3 yrs ago.

  • Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master's Select gets the nod from me.

    • Got that at Adelaide Airport Duty Free for about $117. The flavour really opened up once I added a very small amount of water. A little harsh without it.

  • The Yamazaki 12yo is a beautiful whisky. The distillers reserve is junk. Don't even bother.
Better off spending $60 on a bottle of Glenfiddich 12yo for a much nicer drinking whisky..
