  • Are the ram and ssd upgradable?

    • +1

A quick search says that the RAM is soldered and not realistically upgradable.

SSD I'd say is pretty straight forward given it is PCIe

      • +2

That's correct, you're stuck with the RAM you buy it with due to soldering.
The SSD is PCI, take off the back plate, one screw and change.

      • Oh damn. That's so crap.

        • +1

Not really, most slim-style modern laptops come with soldered RAM.

        • @Lorindor: just a bummer that it's 8 and not 16gb.

        • +1

@Terencee: There is a 16GB, 512GB SSD, QHD Touch screen option, but it's $2099 after the discount. I bit tempted to just go the XPS15

        • +1

@Spectator: If size is not a factor, get the 15. It will have a better GPU and a HQ CPU, which will give better performance.

Sadly Dell doesn't let you customize it by parts. If you want 16GB RAM, seems you have to also upgrade the SSD even if 256GB is enough for you. And maybe you don't want the QHD touch screen either, but too bad. It then leads to a hefty price upgrade for things you may not want.

@Spectator: Why are people still concerned 8GB isn't enough, Unless people are running multiple VM's or Video editing 8 would be more than plenty.

        • +1

          @solidussnake:
          8GB light usage
          12GB moderate usage
          16GB heavy usage

        • +2

@solidussnake: I will be using it for dev work. And many many many tabs of stackoverflow.

        • @Geryatric: heavy usage of what? facebook?
Do games these days require much RAM? I've been out of the game scene for some time.

      • Thanks! Sorry worded the ssd question wrong, was wondering if there's a slot for another drive.

Keep in mind it's the 9360 model and not 9370.

The mother's day rose gold deal with Shopback a week ago was cheaper than this and came with 9370.

    • Too confused re 9360/9370 - retracting my comment.
