  • Fire away with any questions guys!

    I'm here to help :)

    -Aidan

  • Do these have a daily limit before being capped? The majority of these sims do now and the capped speed is unbearable (256kbps)

    • Hi Cyphar,

Yeah most Jap SIMs are daily capped correct!

This one is not capped, you may use 5GB of 4G data whenever you like.

      Hope that helps :)
      -Aidan

  • Massive thank you to you guys for honouring an old deal through here today.

    Much appreciated.

Looking forward for it to be shipped.

    • Haha no worries Elliot!

      Thanks for the purchase <3

      Have a safe trip.
      -Aidan

  • what network does it use in Japan?

    • SoftBank.

Sorry for not being clear, I'll update the post!

      Cheers,
      -Aidan

      • Damn, wished it was using Docomo. Haven't had good experiences with Softbank in the past.

        • Damn, that sucks dude.

I'm currently looking into Docomo SIMs. I had a lot of requests for a longer expiry SIM. Docomo/B-mobile seem to be the way to go!

          Any experience with B-mobile?

          -Aidan

        • +1

          @SimsDirect:

Just jumping in here. Used B-Mobile twice and I wouldn't again. Felt the coverage was patchy and the speeds weren't that great.

I'd really like to try another provider next time to compare.

        • @j4ck:
Cheers for the feedback man. I’m getting mixed feedback about B-mobile. They have great value products but people are complaining about reception.

          Have you tried docomo before?

        • @SimsDirect: I've used B-Mobile in my wifi device and it was quite good with reception. Problem is they disconnect you every few 2hrs or so and you gotta reconnect manually if using a wifi device.
They are a MVO to Docomo.

Problem i had with Softbank was that it was slow as hell in the morning, but other times of the day it was OK.

        • @lplau:

Interesting that they cut you off every 2 hours!

          Thanks for sharing your experience.
          -Aidan

        • +1

@SimsDirect: b-mobile was very slow in built up areas (Shinjuku/Shibuya) and didn't connect very well when I went to smaller towns (like Aomori right at the main train station) Overall it was a terrible SIM card and would not use again.

Thinking of giving your a try in July

        • @Nalar:

          Thanks for the feedback!

Give it a crack! I’ve had plenty of good reviews come in so far. So I would love to see what you think and find out how it compares.

          -Aidan

        • +1

          @SimsDirect:

You might find this post helpful

I personally haven't used bMobile, but I have used other Docomo MVNOs (Yokoso and COMST) and I agree that they are awfully slow. But my main issue with all Docomo MVNO SIMs is that on Android they present themselves as getting "no service" and then drain your battery about 4x faster because the phone is searching for the network (but already has service).

With Docomo SIMs I had to charge my phone 3-4x per day!

I can put up with worse reception than Docomo for actually being able to use my phone away from a powerbank.

That said I found Docomo to be very reliable, I could get an LTE signal on Mt Fuji and surrounding mountains, Mt Mitake etc.

I haven't tried Softbank SIMs, but I imagine getting a SIM direct from Softbank would be faster/better than the MVNO competition. Can you try to stock this

        • +1

          @StrayfireX:
Welcome back! Cheers! Thanks for the pointers.

I wonder why it drains battery? Maybe they run on a high energy consumption frequency?

Yeah 100% agree. It’s always better going with the direct telco instead of virtual operators in terms of connection/speeds. A lot of telcos will only offer virtual operators the ‘wholesale’ connection which is like feeding from the bucket last.

I’ll see what I can do re SoftBank.
          -Aidan

P.S 1 million percent going to try get the hello kitty SIM haha!

        • Thank you for this comment.

I had no issues with Yokoso via Docomo but never really traveled that rural, stuck to big towns mainly Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe/Nagoya area.

I will be travelling a lot more north through Tohoku region in July and would prefer good reception everywhere, I will give this sim a go, hopefully softbank pulls through!

  • How quickly could you ship these? I assume standard post? Wondering if I bought a couple if they could reach Melbourne by this Friday

    • hi JLCC,

You can order with express postage. Standard is too risky.

Express will get to Melbourne, next day guaranteed.

We will be shipping orders tomorrow morning!

      Hope that helps.
      -Aidan

      • Awesome. Thanks for the quick response!

        • No worries ;)

  • What's the details for top up?

    • +2

      Hi plmko,

You can top-up online with Visa/Mastercard.

The SIM comes with instructions on how to top up.

      Top-ups cost 200HKD ($33AUD).

So if you are staying for longer than 7 days I'd recommend to purchase multiple SIMs at the discounted rate and switch them out as you go!

      Hope that helps!
      -Aidan

  • good deal but for those who can live with 5gb for 21d (3480yen or around 42.50aud) the travel sim from bmobile that you can get from biccamera or yodobashi camera store is pretty good.

    • Hi xzy,

      Thanks!

Yeah I have seen some pretty decent B-mobile SIMs that last 15-21 days. Will definitely be trying to get my hands on some for future products.

      Thanks for the info!
      -Aidan

      • I would be keen on those! I don't need so much data for 7 days heh

        • I'll let you know if I ever get em :P

        • @SimsDirect: I'd also be interested in the longer trip sims too.

    • +2

This is what I'm using in Japan right now, you can also "charge/recharge" if you run out before the 21 days is up. ¥500 gets you 1GB, per day. http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/charge.html

This deal is good for 7 days, but I'm always here for 3 weeks and 3x the cost isn't worthwhile.

      • hi nismo,

Thanks for the upvote + information!

How have you founf B-mobile reception and data speeds so far?

        Thanks,
        -Aidan

        • Haven't had a problem in the past with reception or speed, however the other day on a remote mountain in a very southern part of Kyushu internet was almost non existent! In saying this, my relatives on Softbank had the same problem so I can't say it's just DoCoMo.

      • Having said that, I've noticed that there are a lot of free wifi services for Softbank customers here, however I can't confirm if this extends to the visitor type SIMs, or if it's just for residents..

An example is the the Nexco operated Service Areas. There's free wifi for Softbank customers.

      • Hey nismo, did you buy your sim online or at the airport? And how was the sim activation?

        • I've always purchased online, from Bmobile just before we go. Have used the airport delivery service and also sent to a residence.

This year, all I did was insert the sim and it worked for two phones, Galaxy s7 and Moto g5 plus. One of them may have needed a reboot but otherwise no configuration was needed.

        • I bought the SIM online and got it sent to the airport post office. I picked it up on arrival. I believe it's automatically activated on the date you select online. I had to manually enter in the APN for my Nexus 6P.

      • I have used bmobile as well. I had no issues.

      • The problem with bmobile is, however, it won't allow to use Personal Hotspot on iOS devices. This is super shit.

You need an Android device to share the connection between more than just your own phone/tablet.

        • I have to admit that's not true, I could use my ios device - it just took a bit to make it work, no idea why.

However, reception was often poor and the device always would show poor reception (0 out of 5 bars), even when it wasn't bad.

  • Just got back from Japan using one of these.

Bought one in the first round special and they were great. Didn't have any reception problems even when I was criss crossing from East to West on the bullet train. The only time it cut off for a minute was when we were deep inside a very long tunnel, but I'm sure any sim would've had the same issue.

Activation was quick and easy and just done straight from the phone.

    • +1

      hi Devil,

Beautiful! Really appreciate the positive feedback my man.

      Glad I could help :)
      -Aidan

    • Yes, every network drops out in a lot of the tunnels here. My relatives are on Softbank, I'm on DoCoMo usually, they all drop out at some point.

  • Hi Rep,

I'm after a SIM with one month expiry in Japan. Can you help?

    • +1

      hi Bob81,

If you can wait for B-mobile and Docomo to get back to me I can! haha.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything for 30 days.

I would check out Ebay maybe?

      Hope that helps!
      -Aidan

      • Hi Aiden,

Happy to wait. Not traveling for a couple of months yet.

Let me know when you do source something similar.

        Thanks!

        • No worries Bob!

  • Hi, what 4G LTE bands do you need to have for it to work?
I have a ZTE Axon 7 (model A2017G) with the following bands:
    TD-LTE:Band 38/40/41
    FDD-LTE: Band ½/3/4/5/7/8/19/20/28AB
    UMTS: Band ½/4/5/8
    GSM: Band 2/3/5/8

    • +1

      Hi Robotdad!

      You can check here.

I'm hoping I got your model correct. Is yours Dual SIM?

      Hope that helps!
      -Aidan

      • Yes. Dual sim.

        • Perfect. Then it looks like most bands are covered.

          Cheers!

  • Got 2 SIMs. Like the website, nice and simple checkout. Well done -Aidan ;)

    • Cheers! Thanks for the kind words and I appreciate your order <3

  • Why are the Japanese so anal about letting foreigners get mobile phone services. I imagine if we restricted them the same way here in Australia, they wouldn't like it very much.

    • +1

      Haha

Japan just has weird ways of doing things in general! (Good and bad)

Who knows honestly, my first guess is profits!

  • Heading to Korea at the end of the month. Any deals OP?

    • +2

You should like tomorrows post! ;)

Check back in on us around 7pm tomorrow!

      • still no deals for korea OP?

        • Morning hihi,

It will be coming soon, we just had a few things to take care of last night so we got held back from posting.

Keep an eye out this week, potentially next week (we don't post on weekends).

          Cheers,
          -Aidan

  • Using the sim at the moment as a hot spot. Works well. And OP is very good to deal with.

    • Cheers Bob!

  • Ordered x2 with express shipping as I leave next Monday.

Thanks OP for offer and for promising to ship them out tomorrow morning :)

    • +1

No worries! I’ve left a note with your order to be shipped first.

      Thanks for your order <3

      • Amazing service thanks heaps!

  • +1

I have used b mobile 2 times and going back next week. Great value. And can be delivered to your hotel. Great for 21 days fast connection and no issues.

    • Hi rosst,

      Which SIM do you get?

      How is the activation process?

      Thanks,
      -Aidan

      • +1

I get the 21 day 5gb one. I get it delivered to the hotel the night before and have it waiting at the hotel on arrival.

Insert sim and download a profile from their website and off and running. All up about 2 minutes.

  • Thanks, grabbed 2!

    • Nice! Thanks!

  • Any sims for Vietnam?

    • Our 3UK Europe SIM works in Vietnam (data only).

However this wouldn’t be good value for you. Vietnam SIMs ar epretty cheap so I’d just recommend grabbing either an AIS or DTAC ‘tourist’ SIM when you land.

      Hope that helps!
      -Aidan

  • Hmm I'm leaving on 20th and need something for 14 days. One for me and one for wife. If I choose this option it'll cost me $98. For 2 weeks.. How soon before the bmobile contract can be acquired.?

    • Hi maverickjohn,

Acquiring new supply can take some time. The longest part of the process is always waiting for responses (telcos are extremely hard to communicate with, especially overseas ones!)

So I can’t give you a definite answer unfortunately. I’ll be making it a priority but this can take anywhere from a few weeks to months and months.

You should be able to do some research and find some good b-mobile plans before you go. However I do think it will probably end up costing you similar price for you and your wife. Unless you find a good deal!

      Hope this helps,
      -Aidan

Dave77, altomic, maxwellian and unique452 didn't receive their sims on time from the last deal, altomic was even told that they would get express delivery and get them within 24-48 hours, but about 100 hours later they had their order cancelled, were refunded and told that there was no stock to fulfill their order.

None of them were informed that their order was actually a backorder until after the product couldn't be delivered.

I understand that you're just starting in the ecommerce world, but overselling and having some orders be backorders without even informing your customers until well after the orders should have already arrived is a shitty thing to do, and earns a neg from me.

With that said, my issue is with the company and not the product, the product itself appears to be fine, but I'd strongly recommend buying from elsewhere if you're departing soon and want to ensure you actually get the sim on time if at all.

    • I had mine backordered. He delivered just fine. He communication was great, couldn't fault them.
I'd say give them another chance, this happens with Myer etc all the time.

    • +2

      Hi Bradley,

I understand your concern. It was my bad honestly. Mistakes were made.

I got a real taste of what happens when OzBargain goes wild and I wasn’t prepared at all. As you mentioned, I’m still learning ecommerce and business, so it is inevitable that mistakes will happen and I will let people down. I am only trying to do the best I can with what I have!

I am dedicated to improving my skills and the business so hopefully some of the errors I made in the past can be replaced with happy customers in the future.

      Thanks for your comment.
      -Aidan

    • +1

Not sure why Bradley has been downvoted,

I wouldn't be taking the risk of going with this seller or some of the other inexperienced travel sim sellers suddenly popping up on Ozbargain after what happened to me last time.

There were definitely also some…ahem questionable social media practices going on in regards to reviews and photos.

I understand this guy is learning on the job from the mistakes but there are other companies out there who are more experienced, reliable or instead you could just order the product yourself for less.

      • Welcome back Dave,

        Thanks for the feedback.
        I wish you the best.

        -Aidan

      • +1

I'm not sure why either, but if I ask why I'll just get more downvotes.

Now I've already been downvoted enough that my neg was revoked, which seems like a bit of a silly system open to abuse, especially by companies that have questionable business practices.

Also, for ordering the sims directly, they seem to be out of them at the moment, but the company behind these sim cards sells them on their site and delivers within 2 days with a $5 delivery fee, based on the details listed on it. Here's the site

They also sell a 2GB then speed capped card for under 20 (but plus 5 shipping) that lasts 8 days and works all throughout Asia.

        • +1

Couldn't agree more mate, this company couldn't supply a product as specifically promised and also gets their friends/company members to write them 5 star reviews to try to cover up the negative feedback - I suspect a few other newly formed SIM companies that are posting here have similar business practices. The majority of the time things probably work out fine but just trying to warn the community… seems like it's not worth the hassle.

        • +1

@Dave77: Just checked and turns out you can buy these exact sim cards from the Hong Kong page directly, customer service also confirmed they ship to Aus, but will be delivered from Hong Kong. $99 HK ($16.90) each plus $50HK $8.53 shipping.

Total for 1: $149 HK or $25.41 AUD vs $25.40 from SimsDirect
Total for 2: $248 HK or $42.29 AUD vs $50.80 from SimsDirect
Total for 3: $347 HK or $59.18 AUD vs $76.20 from SimsDirect

Go to https://www.cuniq.com/ and change your country to HK then go to this link for the sim.

Normally, I would say it's worth it to buy from SimsDirect for the local shipping, but they showed last time that they don't have that going for them either and were waiting on more stock from Hong Kong anyway, so I'd only order from SimsDirect if you are going away by the time a sim on backorder from Hong Kong would arrive, which is the same as ordering it yourself.

Basically, it's only worth going with SimsDirect if you want a single sim, anything more and it's cheaper to go directly to the source, more trustworthy as well as they're a well established business, and not simply a man in the middle making sales only by being Australian based.

        • +1

          Great research skills @BradleyDS2!!

I did find this link last time and suspected Sims Direct was ordering from here to sell for a tidy profit.

Totally agree - much easier to order yourself since we aren't actually getting any sort of 'special deal' on Ozbargain anyway - this is just the standard price.

Maybe you should post a link to all these SIM cards as a deal of your own? Then community members won't have to wait for these deals to come around since they are all available to buy anytime (alongside many other countries)

        • +1

@Dave77: I agree completely, it makes their comment of "I don’t think I could lead you guys on even if I wanted to! Haha" a bit amusing to read.

I've posted a deal here as you've suggested.

Most people traveling order sims in advance and travel as a family or couple, so I hope I save people a bit of money by allowing them to skip this proxy service!

  • Ohh il jump on these once you can cop 14-20 days, heres hoping. But 7 days would be fine for an emergency situation

  • Just copped one :)

    • Yew! Nice, welcome good sir ;)

  • Any discounts on the China sim? I am looking to buy a few for a family trip.

    • +1

$18.42 each plus $8.53 shipping for China and Hong Kong 8 days 2GB
$16.88 each plus $8.53 shipping for the same thing but waiting for shipping from Hong Kong on their HK site (You might need to change your region to HK or the page will redirect you)
$20.48 each for China and Hong Kong 14 days 2GB
$18.42each plus $8.53 shipping for the same thing but waiting for shipping from Hong Kong on their HK site (You might need to change your region to HK or the page will redirect you)

If you're buying a few for a family trip you'll definitely save money buying from the source instead of what is essentially a proxy service.

Language is separate to region, so their HK site is also in English.

  • Any upcoming deals on USA sims?

    • hi GroundHogDay,

Yes, we will be bringing the USA SIM back this month. No scheduled date at this point though!

You can keep up to date with any discounted sales we do by either subscribing to our OzB company page (in description) or subscribing with your email on our website.

      Thanks!
      -Aidan

  • Aidan, will you be getting any Japan sims for use in 2019?

    • +1

      Hi sTon3r,

We will eventually, it depends on the manufacturer. Every batch of SIMs we have come in I’m waiting for the later expiry dates but it just depends on their stock levels and demand.

When the expiry gets increased it will most likely be changed to June 2019 expiry. It seems they increase expiry in batches of 6 months.

So to answer your question: yes, but I’m not sure when.

      -Aidan

  • Good deal for a short trip, ordered one.
    Hope it arrives by 30/5/18

    • Thanks for your order <3

      I got you ;)
      -Aidan

  • Thanks OP for being so transparent and answering questions, ordered!

    • Thanks for your order mezje!

Transparency is super important to me. I can’t be a happy business owner if I’m not interested in what I do and honest/transparent with the people I do business with!

Plus you OzBargainers are a cunning lot! I don’t think I could lead you guys on even if I wanted to! Haha

Thanks for your comment + order <3
      -Aidan
