For you the one you hate !
Apologies to the OP - I do appreciate your input regardless of my negative post
Great way for kids to be able to type up their homework and not much else like play games on it.
If a kid can't look after this POS laptop. Fat chance you gonna be able to get them to look after something 4 to 5 times the price.
But hey what would i know. New age parenting 101 suggests we buy them an iphone X and the top of the line macbook pro.
Good for browsing the web, one tab at a time
A journey of a thousand miles begins with one (lollipop) step?
Will this run GTAV?
Oh please. It'll be lucky to run Windows.
You mean to tell me this can't run crysis at maxed setting?? Say it isn't so??
/s
I bet my little friend lowspecgamer could do it
Processor speed is the killer here. Specs-for-dollar wise, for a nanna internet machine, it comes pretty close. But 1.33 GHz is just not gonna do it.
can you swap HDD for a cheap ssd?
Nope. It doesn't have a HDD. It's using eMMC flash storage used in phones.
Even if we can, still rubbish.
For the same price better off with the higher spec'd refurbs from Grays Outlet
Is this ok to use to hack into Westpac and zero off my mortgage?
Yes.
What's the model number of the Atom???
Seems to be the X5-Z8300 according to this page.
Airmont, already 2 generations behind.
If Good Guys would sell a current-gen Goldmont+ model for $200, I might have be interested.
But the current gen is not much faster if at all.
@lostn: A current model Pentium Silver N5000 supports 8GB RAM and 4K output (external) with a burst frequency of 2.7Ghz - that'd be sufficient for me to trade in my Core 2 Duo Toshiba.
That said, one can pick up a discontinued Core i3 with a 90 day warranty for not much. But the reason to shop for an Atom isn't performance but 10 hour battery life.
Ghz isn't everything in processing. That's just how many clock cycles it does in one second. How much it can do in each cycle has to be considered also. A 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo is faster than 3.6ghz Pentium IV despite having a slower clock. It's not the only thing to look at.
Benchmarks paint a more accurate picture. If you want a 10 hour battery life, the TDP needs to be low, which will lead to thermal throttling at those speeds compared to Atom, assuming the same cooling is in place.
Not bad. If the display is IPS, I'd think about it.
WHY ? was this landwaste allowed to be made…..
Because some parent is going to buy this junk for their poor kid.
you right. Johnny was bad boy today. So instead of ipad he gets a pendo….oh the torture…..
iPad is no substitute for a general purpose computer, either. Facebook, OzBargain and Twitter aren’t scholastic subjects.
This is not a tablet. It's a laptap, which is something the iPad emphatically is not.
I would rather do my assignments on this than on an iPad.
Had a mate bring one to me, the wifi wouldn’t work. Turns out it’s a known issue with this machine and even after a full windows reinstall it stopped working about a week later same issue. Hardware quality seems poor. He was able to take it back and get a full refund.
I have the previous generation Pendo (11.6 inch model with a 1080p IPS touch display) and yes, also have dead Wifi issue. Now I just use a mini USB wifi dongle but it mean I lose a USB port.
I have a Lenovo Atom laptop that also has the wifi issue. This one wasn't near as cheap though.
I've found that going to a different room to the router gets me a better signal. But being close to the router strangely the signal cuts out.
hooray ! it expired
Never to see the light of day here at ozb
I know its only $180 but I think only your enemies would recommend you buy this laptop.
