You can’t really compare a 24 month plan to a 12 month plan

      • -1

This is $1200ish for 12 month for 25gb and then after that you get moved to $59 plan. And no free streaming services Plus you have to pay upfront for phone Purchase, you can put on 6 months interest free with Ge, but that is still $100ish pre month for 6 months, And the optus one is 1400ish in total after 24 months and 26gb and free streaming services. Unless you really need telstra the optus is better value

      • Over 24 months would be around $1800ish or more since you won't have the 49 plan and 25gb available

      • I think that’s a fair assessment if you are staying with one supplier but my intention is to move to a budget $25/month plan after 12 months with another telco. I do not need 25 gig only 5 gig. So If I was buying s9 64 gig get a phone outright for $550ish after 5% Giftcards and TRS + $588 for plan for 12 months = $1138 + $300 for the following 12 months if I move to budget carrier. So $1438. I think both deals could be seen as value depending on personal situation but I like that after 12 months I have a phone outright and can go get another phone and/or plan .. this works for my personal situation.

        • @dumadiscount
are you able to confirm that we are still able to buy JB Hifi Giftcards at 5% discount? Heard it couldn't been done anymore. idk. something about buying a giftcard with another giftcard.

        • @Sydney11: to be honest I used my employer (tech company) shopping discount which provides 7.5% discount on jb hifi gift cards. I can’t confirm if 5% is still available but found a link to this one for 6% https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/373354.

Edit: but if the question is can you use a gift card to pay balance then yes, definitely. They basically make you take a receipt with full rrp of phone + a v oucher for $500 discount (which can only be applied to your s9 purchase) to cash register, cashier will ring it up and deduct $500 off as a gift voucher and you pay the balance however you want as like any other item in the store ie cash / credit / gift voucher

        • @dumadiscount:
          thanks for clarifying that :)

  • Anyone in Melbourne CBD who wants the plan but not the phone? I'll pay you $200 cash and pay for the phone. But the phone invoice has to be in my name.

    • Nice try.

      • Not enough cash? Not everyone wants an S9.

  • Just confirming, Aldi to Telstra is ok too?

    • I asked in-store yesterday and was told that yes it's eligible.

      • Have just done this it is fine.

  • who was the one claiming it's 256gb, it says quite clearly 64gb or did I miss something else?

    • +1

Someone was asking if you get $500 off the 256GB models also and someone else said yes. They can get the 256GB model of s9 or s9+ so long as they pay the rrp - $500 discount.

So for the s9+ 256GB it would be $999 upfront plus the $49 per month for 12 month contract.

  • I'm looking to jump on this deal but got a couple questions if anyone can help out.

    1. I'm currently with Boost that uses the Telstra network. Do I have to port my number out to Vodafone/Optus or can I sign up to this deal from Boost?
    2. After the 12 month contract, does the plan revert back to $59/month or will it remain $49 for the life of the plan?
    • +1

Answer to 2: It remains at $49 until you recontract

      • Meaning if we just leave as it, it will be just $49? Unless we upgrade the plan?

        • +1

Yes. If you keep the plan. It remains $49 a month. If you change plans and want to go back. It will be $59 a month then.

When I was in JBHIFI yesterday (I was with TElechoice who use Telstra services) I was told that Boost was classed as Telstra, at the time she wasnt sure about Telechoice but searched my phone number and it didnt come up in the Telstra system so I was okay…Boost sounds like a different story tho

  • Don't forget to pay with your Amex to get free glass replacement. There is however a 0.27% surcharge.

  • Hey all rare poster here,

I've been creeping in the background watching this deal and the original BYO sim deal thread as well. I'm in an almost perfect situation whereby my 4 year old phone needs upgrading, I like the S9 and was waiting for a deal, I want to stop paying $40 for bugger all data on a long standing prepaid setup and the month just ended! I say 'almost' perfect because my prepaid SIM is already with Telstra :(

I want commit before the deal expires on Friday so I need to move on porting to give myself the best chance of nabbing it. From what I've been reading:

    • Don't port to Optus as they're not very useful + takes time (not on my side). Try someone like Vodafone on a $2 SIM with a bit of credit loaded - make sure to activate SIM and what not
    • Can ask to port number either in store or online it's generally quite quick
    • Some say it worked and were in JB in 10 mins signed up to the deal, others say they had dramas when trying to get the deal and there's the poster who believes Telstra are cracking down on recent ported numbers

Any general recommendations or dos and donts? My thinking is I need to get in to Vodafone (or similar) early tomorrow in store, get SIM + port number, confirm it comes across and then go to JB on Friday and try my luck?

    • +1

I went instore yesterday and mine ported over from Optus almost instantly. A lady was porting hers at the same time from Voda and she was still waiting by the time I left the store. Rep told me Voda usually takes the longest.

      • Hey ryanek thanks for the response! For me porting in to Telstra can take however long it needs to that's all good, it's the porting out initially that is my time concern :(

    • +1

Not sure if I can edit/delete my own posts but decided not to give this one a crack, will hold out for deals later in the year and get by til then!

  • +1

Ported to Optus earlier today then just went to JB but couldn't get the deal. They said you need to be with another provider for 30 days to be eligible. Will try my luck at another store on Friday, if not might just stick with Optus prepaid for a bit.

Had the same thing happen to me on Tuesday. Like you mentioned, we just went to a different JB and got the deal no problems.

      • Just don't mention how long you have been with them. The system will either work or not. I had one JBs tell me it wouldn't work due to 30 day reason, but were willing to try at my insistence. But I didn't have ID on me, so couldn't anyway.

Went to a different JBs once I had my ID - it worked, but the port took about 4 hours to 'complete' (port actually took affect within minutes), and they couldn't release the 'gift card' until it showed as complete. But got it in the end. There were Telstra issues on Tuesday, so I'm guessing this may have caused the delay.

        So my experience:
Monday - ported Telstra to Voda.
Tuesday - ported Voda to Telsta - 4 hour delay before I could get the phone.

        • +2

It shows on their system when you were last with Telstra but they can sign you up regardless, so purely up to the employee to decide if they'll ignore the "30 day" eligibility requirement or not.

What documents does JB Hifi require to sign-up for this?

  • just a question. does it have to be new customer ? i already have Telstra Plan account. I want to end my virgin contract and want to transfer the number to telstra. will i get phone discount ? :) thanks

    • @triplenet
You do not need to be a "new customer". The only requirement is to Port-In a mobile number (in your case: from Virgin to Telstra). You should qualify. :)

got a S9+ 64gb black and received 5gb extra bonus data

  • JbHifi has extended the deal. They dint tell me upto what date but just told me that the deal has been extended.

    • @dying4004
Yup, I too heard about an extension

    • I just walked into JB @Highpoint and was told that the offer has been extended but the gift card that can be used against the handset price is now $400.

  • +1

spoke to telstra chat again and got $10 discount. so that brings to $39 per month and 30gb data. not bad at all

    • +2

Hi could you please tell me how did u get $10 off again?

    • @dying4004
      $39 plan 30GB data 12 months +Samsung S9+ . that's a pretty awesome deal

      • +1

s9+ is not free though :p

    • Just tried this. They said i already received a $10 discount given it went from 59 to 49. Tried to press them and they said they cant double discount to 39. They did give me 5 gig extra data tho.

How easy was it for you to get the extra $10 off?

      • i had to try 4 different agents. :D

      • got it 2nd go on the chat. i think its fairly key to say that the person who got the same deal is a new customer also

        • I don't get it, what do you say. "I'm a new customer, can I please have $20 discount instead of $10 discount"? Why would they say yes?

  • +2

deal is back on now, just got a email from JB about this

  • So I just got this deal for my wife. Aldi didnt send port authorization so not picked up the handset. Approved though and gift card is still 500 AUD off the rrp on their website.

    • Ok, so may be not really an issue with Aldi but more so delayed due to Sunday and being in WA so although it was 12 here, Eastern states it was much later so business dealings for the day were closed. Went through today at 530 in the morning. Phone got an sms and then no reception
