Bing Lee in Victoria Av, Castle Hill is closing down and is selling off their stock. Being a new member I wasn't able to post this earlier so much of their new in boxes stock is sold. Their last day is the 16th of January 2011.

TV and large whitegoods are mainly display stock. GPS, computer stuff a mix of new and display.

Ignore the ticket prices and talk to the sales people for the best price.

thats a shame its closing. usually these closing down sales are not that great though in my experience..

    • +6

They most likely just return unsold stock to warehouse and redistribute it to other stores.
The heavy discounting would be on display models or items that have like only a few left in stock.

      • -5

yep…. deals will be on floor stock and discontinued items. the rest will go to other stores.

Friend bought a LG 42" LCD TV 42LD560 for $800 new in box.

We know of a LG 42" LCD TV 42LD650 offered at $950 new in box (2 available last Thursday) and a 42" LCD/LED TV 42LE5310 sold at $950 new in box.

  • its closing on the 14th btw.

No specific details of any bargain

Gotta love how people neg just because bargains aren't specified.

I think they should consider themselves lucky people are going out of their way to tell others that there is a possible bargain somewhere. Most members of OzBargain take that for granted. Soon they will neg deals enough that people just won't bother uploading them thinking that they will get negged.

    • I agree. Wouldnt hurt to know that a store nearby is closing down, which means there could be some really nice clearance sales….unless the store is something like Designer Direct.

      • -2

i agree it's useful info, but this is 'ozbargain' not 'ozannoucements'.

other than the fact a store is closing, what is the actual bargain here? people can neg this comment into oblivion like they've done above to the people also realising this fact- i dont mind.

331 views in this thread and only 10 positive votes shows a lot of silent people also agreeing that this isnt really a 'bargain' and not voting accordingly.

show me a bargain that other people can take advantage of (like a receipt for a brand new tv that other people can also get at same price), and I'll remove neg…. but until then this is an announcement of a store closure, not a "storewide 30% off" or something like that.

fairs fair folks, individual haggling ISNT a bargain for all to use.

        • +2

          really!!
you can't base your facts that only 331 people have viewed this and only 10 + votes
          i.e.
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32316
486+ votes and 23423 views calculates to 1 + vote per 48 viewers
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/25589
480+ votes and 20528 views calculates to 1 + vote per 45 viewers
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23155
386+ votes and 3322 views calculates to 1+ vote per 8.606 viewers
          .
          .
now this post has 10+ votes and 331 viewers that calculates to be 1+ vote per 33 viewers, way better than the top 2 most popular dealshttp://www.ozbargain.com.au/stats

        • It seems the basic premise of your argument is "if everyone in Australia doesn't benefit, it's not a bargain". That's the sense I get by your insistence on a receipt or something. I don't think this is an appropriate neg though, since if it were you'd have to neg every Fluidtek bargain too.

Sure, they have advertised prices but you have to physically appear in store (and wait three months in line for Eddie to shut up and serve you) to get your "bargain". They never have receipts online by which other people can benefit, and they don't ship stock so unless you're within reach of the store their deals are (by your logic) "not a bargain".

        • You raise a valid point, I hadnt thought about it but i suppose it is more of an announcement rather than a foreseeable bargain. I suppose it all depends on how the rules work in this scenario?

      • +2

        hmmm…. flawed arguement.

old posts continue to be viewed well after the voting is rendered useless due to an expired deal. the thread links youve provided are months old! (march, may, and october 2010 to be precise)

i often look at old deals, especially when a similar deal comes up… so I can compare. i dont vote positive on the old deal though.

        • ….so that means the amount of positives to views would go down even further??

      • exactly

Being able to haggle isnt a bargain otherwise this site will be flooded.

  • +2

come on, i think maxixix may have a point, with haggling different people get to negotiate a different price or add ons in a deal, a bargain is where you walk in with an ad and they sell you the item no fuss, i personally don't mind haggling but i know people who don't like the idea or who don't have the nerve or time
as for the "no specific prices" comment, OP did say "Ignore the ticket prices"!

  • +4

Being a new member I probably don't understand the exact way that this site works.

I guess when I see a TV (LG 42LD560) advertised on the Bing Lee and JB Hifi websites for around $1090 sold brand new for $800 or a LG 42LE5310 advertised on the Bing Lee and JB Hifi websites for around $1390 sold brand new for $950 I consider it as a bargain. By the way the non-haggling price was about $50 higher.

In any case some time has passed and I would guess that much of the non-display stock has now been sold.

  • Thank God the pedants don't run this site - no one would ever post useful information.

I know I avoid posting because of the "attitude" shown by many members and do not go to the forums so the article in a paper today about COTD doesn't get to the other members via me anyway :\

  • +4

Ehh whats the fuss it's a closing down sale I consider that a bargain and appreciate the poster sharing this

    • +1

Precisely. How much simpler can it get than "closing down sale, choose your own bargainventure"?

    • +1

Appreciated as well. Might as well not post any closing down sales if people are gonna hate like this.

  • +8

closing down sales are definitely worth posting! this post certainly benefits those who live near Castle hill…. too many whingers on ozbargains. who's to say what is a bargain or not? that's for the mods to decide and edit… whingers, you don't own the website, just be appreciative people bother to post anything.

    • -5

Sale? Without a single specific example? How do you know?

I agree with UFO this is just an announcement.

Could be posted in the forum. Thats all.

      • +4

most people don't frequent the forums.

also, it's a very useful announcement that is in the spirit of what this site is trying to acheive.

      • +1

Well if any thing tells me about a place where I can find cheaper things it is a BARGAIN. My description is that simple. Just stay away if you do not find it useful, for example if there is a bargain in WA that I cannot get in ACT I do not neg it because for people out there it is a bargain, I just stay away and not bother as my time is very valuable than just negative voting deals that I cannot get. Get real.

      • +2

It's helped me there's always bargains at closing down sales, I think this well and truly deserves it's place here

I bet all the Negs live too far away hence them but either way its easy to see this is accepted with the neg to positive ratio so this is where its mean to be

      • My vote was revoked my a mysterious unknown force (like others already), your one will probably be too…. good luck! Maybe it's the Bing Lee gods or something disagreeing with our honest opinions on how this ISN'T a bargain ;).

        • Cause discounts so aren't bargains.

  • There were plentiful of sharp tv Instore

  • +1

Thanks to the OP, I wouldn't have known about this without post here.
I got the post via Twitter while out and about shopping at Castle Hill home centre so was very good timing.

There were/are some great bargains there

    Got
46" Sharp Aquous LED 100Mhz TV LC46LE700X for $1000 (JB price $2K) display
Sunbeam Cafe Series Espresso EM9610 $500 (RRP $800, bigw $698) new in box
    4.5kg Fisher & Paykel dryer DE45F56EW1 $300 (Good Guys $465) display

Take your iPhone and check prices before bargaining :)

Not much stock left, store looks like it has been hit by ram raiders

Unfortunately not everyone here has a smartphone.

      • -2

        Really?!

        • +1

haha yes, some people don't have a smartphone yet. Though I'd recommend they use some of the bargains on here (Ozbargain.com.au I mean) to find themselves one!

        • +1

Not all of us can afford smart phones or the rediculous data cost even at the cheap prices pointed out here.
Some of us are here for a reason ;)

  • +2

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. i just visited the store and their discounts are an insult, especially for demo and floor stock. less maybe 50-100$ is definitely not worth it and you would rather buy brand new.

For example. Canon EOS 1000D twin lens kit, This is demo(so floor stock, not brand new), Advertised price is $1000+, Sale price still around $800 i think, best the salesman could do was $790, WTF? for a demo u cuta few dollars, thats a joke. I also mentioned Officeworks and Harvey Norman have this deal for just under $600 advertised and without having to bargain, and he said he couldnt even match it.

Just looked at their website too. Brand new 1000d twin lens kit is $749. There sales people are a joke. http://www.binglee.com.au/cameras-camcorders/digital-slr/can…

They were also selling an old Samsung 19" Tv which is over 4 years old, $700 back then. Best they could do was $390. Also floor stock.

I have found Bing Lee is BARELY negotiable with their prices. Not just this one store experience.

I'll have to negative this as i couldnt find a bargain in store.
