how do you drink 15kg of this stuff?
somebody like their coffee stale.
OP, thats 15kg of rather ordinary coffee to get through. Dunno if you've a commercial usage for it or similar but I'd personally hate to be drinking it myself as even if frozen as sealed it'll taste well and truly stale before you get through much of it at all.
I say this KNOWING that some folks are more than happy just to have a cup of Intl Roast in an old enamel mug - and fair play to them but IMHO when you figure out the cost PER CUP/SERVE it's worth paying a little bit more to get top quality beans that are still fresh i.e roasted within the last week for your enjoyment. When you break it down like that it's literally perhaps just 20-30c per serve more - and you're getting a completely different beverage quality level.
I'm not negging the deal - just flagging an alternative rationale for assessment. :-)
You really know your beans.
Ah not really I'm a rank amateur - did just buy 17.5kg of green beans from Coffee Snobs for home roasting over the next year plus.
My opinion is if you're making your coffee at home you're ALREADY saving a heap (the biggest reason so many places sell takeaway coffee is the markup on it is MASSIVE). So rather than spending say 20c per home coffee for a average-ish coffee - do an Ozbargain type luxury and buy top quality freshly roasted beans (loads of good small roasters advertise deals on here all the time) for perhaps 20-30c more per serve.
Big difference in the cup and plenty of other places to save much more $$$ where the difference in end quality won't be as starkly evident. :-)
100% agree with this. I got 1kg for $25 of St Ali from a deal on ozbargain. Ended up with really weak coffee and wasn't worth the effort with the grinding and the frothing and the cleaning errrr. Back to paying $15 for 250 grams at the coffee shop
Not that I'm turning this into a coffee do's and don'ts as there's a million places to get the lowdown on that BUT if nothing else you must and I say MUST be grinding your beans 'on demand' e.g not using preground coffee, even if it is freshly roasted….it's 'stale' within a few hours at most.
I used to faff around with expensive machines etc but now just use a double walled stainless steel plunger, hand grinder and warm our milks in the microwave. Low end…sure, but with the right brewing technique(not the classic plunger approach which is terrible!) you get very good results much more consistently that with the prosumer espresso machines I used to do hand-to-hand combat with each day.
But again it all depends on the style of coffee you want to drink, we're kinda latte-ish style/flat white and can pull it off…..for purist espresso drinkers, crappier beans are ok but you'll want a good grinder and machine etc.
I have one of these, http://www.delonghi.com/en-au/products/coffee/coffee-makers/…
does the job
I have to agree with this. i used to enjoy lavazza a lot before I got my coffee machine, but since then, I have always used more premium beans. I'm quite happy with these:

after many years, I had to use lavazza beans again recently when I ran out of my usual beans- I was surprised at how crap they tasted to me now. the evolution of my palate lol?
You sir are now a coffee snow like me.
connoisseur not snow lol stupid autocorrect
I have tried Lavazza beans bought at Woolworths, did not like it, there was a strange smell in the bag that made my coffee taste horrible. Had to return it. Recently bought Harris Colombian at Coles, this one is gold and perfect for me. The aroma is awesome, my whole kitchen has that nice coffee smell each time I use it. I am going to park with that brand and type now.
Have tried Lavazza for the first time last week, that was the most horrible taste of any coffee I have ever tried, had to return it the same day. Go with Harris Colombian, you will not regret it.
I actually like the taste of these beans a lot more than the others available at Coles and woolies, but if you're not drinking through the 1kg fast enough, you're better off buying a smaller pack to match your drinking speed.
Good coffee, often 50% off at woolworths $15
Saw this for $14 at Harris Farms yesterday
