    • Short answer “yes”

      Long answer as per T&Cs
Eligible Purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Points. Purchases which are not eligible to earn Points are described in the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward Terms and Conditions (PDF 1.67MB), for example fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes will not earn Points.

      • Hi. Just wanted to seek clarification about "eligible purchases", does it need to be a purchase that's eligible to earn Qantas Points (e.g. purchase from Big W, Woolies, etc) or can I spend $2,500 on any purchase as long as it's not one of those exclusions stated on the T&C's?. For example, I want to spend $2,500 by buying goods from appliances online, will this count towards meeting the eligibility criteria? Cheers.

Make any trans outside of thoseT&C are all ok. So Yes to your question

I've just got my points from this promo when I signed up before xmas, but now seeking a card to go to so I can start the cycle again… Anyone got a good QFF card deal? I can't seem to find any fee-free ones at the moment…

    • Following. Similar situation.

      • same, once this cards points turn up :)

    • St George Amplify signature probably best deal on at the moment? $139 for first year (half the usual annual fee) and 90000 bonus points with $5k minimum spend in 3 months. Not free though.

      • I got the st George one a week ago but regret it because of the fact that they don't support pay with phone (except Samsung??) And they have no ETA. Their app isn't very good either. Very disappointed and feels like a major downgrade after being with CommBank. Should've just got the westpac black as they have all the features I want.

        • Don't regret it. 90,000 QF points is equivalent to $900. If you minus the $139 annusl fee, it's still worth $761 which is actually more than you can get with ANZ. I got both. And you can sell the Qantas lounge passes for at least $40 on this very site or $50 on Gumtree. I'm Qantas gold so I don't need them and therefore flog the things to colleagues.

        • @Lunarboogie: I strongly believe that you can easily get 1.1 cents per QFF. And so 90,000 = $990.

        • @Peck:

Are you able to shed light on how? Happy to hear about a way to get a better price.

        • @Lunarboogie: Advertise on OzB. There was a sale a few days ago where the advertised price was 1.2. I expect that the actual sale price would have been 1.1 - 1.2.

        • Agreed - apparently you need to physically go into a branch to do things like setting up a direct debit for the credit card account. Pretty archaic way of doing things.

      • Thanks… unfortunately, we had our home loan with the St George Group / family of brands within the past 12m (switched to ING recently) and thus counts as being within the 12m blacklist…

Sounds like we're in a bit of a QFF deal drought!

      • How is it $139? When I've looked it's $279…….

        • It's the deal that was put up here some time ago - through finder.com.au - expires in about a week I think.

        • @Tungstencalais: Cheers mate!

    • I'm new to these, is there a time limit before reapplying?

      • +1

        Usually 12 m. Sometimes 18m.

    • +5

St George Amplify Platinum is pretty good as well. 60,000 bonus points with 3k minimum spend in 3 months. Usually a $99 annual fee, but the first year fee can be waived if you close your browser mid-application. About 10 minutes later an email would be sent offering a fee waiver.

      • Nothing on the amplify signature if you do the same?

        • Nothing. I just tried for the Signature card and the email received didn't include a fee waiver.

    • Might be going with Qantas - Premier Platinum Mastercard… 75,000 points for spending only $3000 in 3m. Half price annual fee of $149 BUT you get 2x lounge passes, so not too bad… just depends on how harsh their application process is going to be…

      https://www.qantasmoney.com/credit-cards/premier-platinum

  • Do you get the Qantas lounge passes in the first year? I.e. before having to pay the annual fee?

    • Don't see anything about Q lounge pass given for free

      • +1

Then you must not have clicked the link. @Tung -You have to call their concierge service to eat the lounge passes. You can do it as soon as you have the card if you want.

    • Yes you do. Just ring them as soon as you’ve got your card, they may ask you when you’re planning on flying, just mention a date in the near future.

  • I had the platinum ANZ card, do I still have to wait 12 months before opening another one?

    • +1

where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

      • Thanks for that. December for me then

Is your CC has the "Frequent" in it? If not I believe you qualify

        • +1

There's two types of ANZ rewards card:
          1. ANZ Frequent Flyer
          2. ANZ Rewards

They both run on separate cycles.

  • What's the best AMEX card with a lower income requirement (~50k range)?

    • Amex Qantas Discovery. Earn points. No annual fee. $35k income required

    • Amex Platinum Edge, where you can earn 3 pts per $ in supermarkets. You can also buy e-gift cards for 5% off and still get 3 pts per $. Use e-gift cards to buy other gift cards like JB hifi, etc.

But I would recommend that if in your household income is above $75k, get a 100k bonus Amex card first such as the Amex Explorer. Offer ends tomorrow though. You can then do a product change after getting the 100k bonus.

      • I am assuming I cant get this Amex Explorer if I already have Plat Edge?

        • You can but most people won’t get the bonus points. Like you, I had a Plat Edge already and applied for the Explorer. I managed to keep both accounts ‘separate’ throughout my application process and got the 100k points regardless, happy to share with you my strategy via PM.

        • @bozbargain:

How about the other way around, I have a explorer and at some stage am thinking of getting the Plat Edge, can i still get bonus points for plat edge with your method?

        • +1

@lonewolf: it doesn't matter which card you hold 'first'. In your case, I would def. get a PE (even without the bonus points), even if it's just for the 1st year so you 'upgrade' from Gateway to Ascent. Cancel the year after (if you don't need the extra points for supermarket spend) and you can stay on Ascent!

        • @bozbargain:

Oh I didnt realise even if i cancelled it, i could still stay on the Ascent program, I thought i had to keep both for that.

  • So people who cancel this card, you need to cancel just before it hits 12 months right?
if you cancel earlier than that (lets see 6 months), will that lose your points?

    • No points lost.

    • +4

You cancel immediately as soon as you see the bonus points in your Frequent Flyer account. Once it is, ANZ can't touch them and you're free to cancel the card. Doesn't matter if it's 4 months or 11 months in.

      • What if you refund your $2500+ purchase that got you to the threshold for the points? Can they claw back the points or are they still untouchable? :)

        • +1

          Haha true ozbargain spirit.
          Need someone to clarify

        • @vash12: Indeed, as then they'd be truly free points (otherwise you're just spending unnecessarily to reach minimum spends).

        • Was wondering this to lol

        • @MathNerd: a lot of merchants refund back to the original card. If you don’t have the card you might be stuck with store credit.

        • This is why they do not credit the point straight away.. from memory it take 2 billing cycles. if you can return and get credit after the points are credited, I don't think they can do much with your points

        • @MathNerd:

The points are truly free if the $2500 qualifying threshold would have been spent anyway. I spent mine on bills and the like which I would have done with or without the ANZ card. And you get 2500 points in doing so (government spend excluded) so all up you get 77,500 free QF points as part of this deal.

      • Hey Guys,
Just be mindful if you are cancelling your credit card too often, it does affect your credit card scoring rate- atleast on the creditsavvy ones.
I had cancelled one of the NAB credit cards within 6 months period of getting it and had applied for 2 credit cards within that period and could see a fall in my credit score ratings - so could be a multitude of these factors!
One of the credit card that I had applied was ANZ :) and still using it, almost 6 months into it and thinking whether to cancel it or keep it (I have already received the bonus points )

        • +1

It's the credit application that hits your credit score, not the cancelling.

    • I believe you wont lose the bonus points once they are in your account. You can then cancel this card and the 12 months waiting period will start.

  • How does QFF membership work? i.e. how do you not end up paying the fee every year cycling cards, when it's fee free to join for just the first year? Also what happens to points if the membership expires?

    • QFF membership is seperate to the credit card. It only has a sign up fee but you can join for free through Woolworths Rewards (and probably others).

QFF membership doesn't expire. The points do I think if you don't add or subtract from them in a time frame.

      • But isn't QFF an annual fee?

        • +3

          No

        • If you want to keep this card for more than 12 months. I believe Anz will charge annual fee on QFF.

        • @vash12:
Thanks sween64, yea that ANZ rewards card fee was what I got confused with.

        • @vash12:
No, annual fee is for the card not QFF membership

        • you may have mistaken the Qantas Club membership to Qantas frequent flyer membership

        • @kacak:

Sorry what i meant was after 12 months you will get charge $425 ($370 annual fee + $55 for QFF)
Additional card holder will also get charge $55 + $10 additional card fee

          T&Cs
For ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, a Total Annual Fee of $425 applies which includes a $370 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee. For additional cardholders on an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, an annual Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and an annual Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 will apply per additional cardholder on the account.

        • @vash12:
I see the confusion, it’s a bit vague in those terms.

As others have also stated, for Qantas Frequent Flyer membership its only a one-off joining fee with no ongoing annual costs. Most people here would have gotten it for free anyway, it’s a regular offer.

One option to consider after you cancel this card is to switch to the ANZ Rewards Black card. It doesn’t give you QFF points but it does give you 75k ANZ reward points which I’ve been using to redeem gift vouchers. Basically means that one year you get the sign on bonus for QFF points, then cancel & do the same for reward points the next year. Then rinse & repeat. No annual fees and a decent amount of rewards points constantly coming in.

    • Can you have the Qantas Black and ANZ Rewards Black at the same time?

      • Yep, but I suggest you alternate between the two to help fill the 12 month void.

        • Hmmmm. Good pick up. I'll apply for the ANZ Rewards Black in June.

  • How long does it normally take after graduation from uni to get you 75k annual salary?
The average grad income is 53k-ish.

If anyone needs a reason to cancel. Just say Veloce Lounges availability is pretty crap. It will say its available on their site but when you rock up to the lounge, they will reject you. You refuse to pay the $450 annual fee if you can't get access. Veloce bad rap is all over tripadvisor so I'm not making it up.

    • Yep Veloce is crap. The worst managed lounge pass ever. 50/50 chance if being accepted at listed lounges.

    • +3

Just say I don't want to pay the annual fee.

  • I would apply, but just got the st george amplify signature in Jan, and the virgin high flyer in March, so I better not ;)

  • Anyone know how long the expiry date is on the two Qantas Club lounge passes. I'm not traveling Qantas till mid year and don't know whether to hold off a bit longer or get the passes and cancel the card now.

    • 12 months from when you order them.

  • Damn it I've just signed up and received ANZ's Platinum Visa card. If only I'd known.

  • No brainer.. thanks to OP

  • How long after I cancelled my last one can I apply for this?

    • +11

as has been said many times in this thread, 16 years.

Damn, I've got 3 years to go then.

More like 22 years now, they changed the t&c recently.

        • damn you're right. i really should read the thread more carefully.

  • as a related aside, what do people use to check their credit score?

    • +1

Equifax (used to be Veda) or CheckYourCredit.com.au (dun and bradstreet).
Banks will have their own criteria for assessing your credit but these should still give you a decent view

  • used this offer around this time last year, frequent flyer points came in approx 2 months later.
just cancelled a few days ago, customer service rep kept questioning why im cancelling, also rattled off all the benefits etcetc…got there in the end but weirded out by her questionn (asked what other banks I'm with).
on another note, when my partner cancelled they didnt ask anything at all!

    Is annual salary include Super?
If it is base salary then I'm short $7,500. Is that mean no go for this offer?

    • +1

usually it would be referring to total salary pre-tax which includes super

  • Just clarifying something. The 12 month period before reapplying, that's just for each bank right?

I mean I can apply for this ANZ deal AND the St George one (listed above previously) at receive both bonus points?

    • Yes

    • Yup. Speaking from personal experience.
