Thanks OP. I'm gonna need these new tyres.

  • Now just need amex Bob Jane cashback $100 off $400 spend to align like it has in the past

  • +2

Recently got KTAS to match this deal + offer each tyre at a discount to normal.

so end up saving 30% … a little bit more

    • Legend, I'll try them today.

    • I second this. KTAS gave an addition ~5% off.

  • +4

Hope jax match it, just saved amex jax offer 400 -100

    • How did you get the amex offer? I can't find it

      • Check the Amex Offers section when you login to your Amex credit card account. Should be there.

      • neither can i, i only have 10 avaialble offers but none of those is jax

        • +1
        • @MathNerd: thanks i ended up calling amex and they honoured it for me:)
          thanks for the offer though

    • Thanks mate.. I quickly jumped across and saved the offer.

    • Can't find the offer on AMEX issued

      • I got it on my Velocity Escape which is AMEX issued

        • Not popping up on Platinum Charge card unfortunately!

      • -1
  • Was wondering if this was coming back, but decided to go with a set of Michelin 3 STs at Bob Jane Liverpool. They were actually cheaper than Costco…

$171 per tyre (Costco wanted $183)

Primacy LCs were $175 per tyre)

    Size: 215-55-17

$100 discount if you buy 4.

    • I don't know specifically with the tyres you bought, but contrary to expectations, you generally don't bother with the tyre franchises when you need 1 or 2 tyres.

This deal is good, but you'll find places like Tempe Tyres rarely sell at the inflated RRPs you see at these chains.

I thought I was getting a good discount until someone educated me…

      • I don't think I've ever had to purchase just one or two tyres, but yeah I can see that to be the case.

      • Saw my tyres on Tempe's eBay page and they are more expensive. Are they cheaper at the shop?

        • I don't know unfortunately. I've only ever visited the website and when I popped in it was with a friend.

I use their online prices to negotiate with the mechanic when it's pink slip time for example. The tyre places where I live (in the high-rent eastern suburbs) might charge more than usual.

  • Bridgestone I went to does a $49 wheel alignment with no negotiating. Other places are in the 60 buck mark, sucks Costco SA don't do wheel alignments

    • What adjustments does your car have? Are the tyres wearing unevenly? Maybe you don’t need it?

      • -1

It is wheel alignment, not wheel balancing

        • What's your point?

Camber and Toe effect wear. Most cars have very little adjustment options though.

        • @Steptoe:
I changed one tyre recently due to a flat. Is a wheel alignment necessary?
The new tyre is the same make (Michelin) but different model

        • @mmd:
Was the old Tyre wearing OK? Does the car pull to left or right when you don’t grip the steering wheel on a straight road? What adjustments does your car have?

If it’s behaving itself, I don’t see the value.

      • Nah front left was wearing a lot quicker, probably due to curbs, parking bay bollards etc.

    • +1

Front wheels only or all 4?

      • Fronts only

        • Seems expensive for front only. The shop I go to is $40/70 for front/all 4 but I have seen $35 for front only.

  • +10

    A wheely good deal.

… I'm tyred after that pun.

… I should tread lightly with these.

    … Something something rubber.

    • +3

      Dad get off the internet!

    • That's some gripping pun, mate.

    • +1

Such dry joke. I'll let you slide this time.

      • +1

Stop cutting corners, and give us more pun.

    • ha ha you are on a roll there

      • Wow, these puns are getting some traction.

    • I feel a little deflated, they don't have any Turanza in my sizing

  • Funny that I am reading this sitting at Bob Jane in Gladesville. The manager (Paul) offered me this deal over the phone and a $45 alignment plus no-cost Nitrogen (whatever that is - I am a car noob).
But yeah, just wanted to say that I have come across very few genuinely nice and helpful sales people as Paul at Bob Jane, Gladesville. Highly recommended.

    • +1

Nitrogen is becoming popular, particularly in hi-performance cars, because it expands less than air when the tyre gets hot. More consistent pressures.
Race teams have used it for a while.
Meanwhile I prefer to have imported French air in my Michelins…

    • Hi Paul!

  • +3

just bought a Trike… anyone with a unicycle?

  • Not a neg on this deal but more of a caveat emptor. I jumped on this last time only to find out that the Bridgestone didn't make a load rating high enough for the car, after ordering the tyres and dropping the car off of course. Had to make a quick decision on a significantly more expensive set of rubber. $900 vs $1500. Watch for this one as its hard to shop around once your car is booked in and the SO is expecting it back that afternoon ! Not a great negotiating position. Make sure you check the load rating for your vehicle matches the appropriate Bridgestone tyre.

Got the Turanza Serenity Plus about 6 months ago. Incredible tyres.

Ride comfort and noise levels are absolutely top notch. Had cheapo "Saline" branded Chinese tyres previously. Going between the two was night and day, like upgrading from vacuuming your floor using your mouth to using a Dyson.

    • +1

+1 - can agree they're very good tyres. Switched over from some relatively short lived Kumho's and noticed the Serenity's felt a lot more 'locked in'. Very good tyres (honestly one of those things on a car where you really get what you pay for and it's hard to waste money by getting superior ones! Only a few square inches of rubber connect your speeding ton plus of metal to the road at any given nanosecond!) and via these deals they come down to quite a mid-tier price (approx. $130 each for my 195/60/15 Corolla).

    • Got a set of Serenity Plus almost 2 years and 30,000km ago and they're still hardly worn and feel like they're brand new. Make highway driving that bit more comfortable and do great in wet weather as well

  • +1

    any deals for wheels?

  • +2

Purchased a set from Costco yesterday which runs the same deal and works out to be cheaper. 691 from costco vs the 753 quote from bridgestone. I believe Costco do 25% off the whole price instead of the cheapest one free. Tyre prices were also cheaper but is dependent on your tyre size. If you have a Costco membership it might be worth it checking there first.

    Potenza RE003
    225 45 18 - Costco 261, Bridgestone 269
    245 45 18 - Costco 200, Bridgestone 215

  • Last year around this time, I got 4 Potenza Adrenaline RE003 215/50/R17 from Costco (buy 3 get 1 free), ended up paying about 165 each, just FYI. Pretty good tyres (good grip in wet, a bit soft though).

    • Heya mate, I was thinking of getting some of there for my VW Passat 235/45/R17, what do you mean by a bit soft? As in you're not getting as many kms out of them as you'd expect?

      • +1

Sorry for the confusion. I mean the ride quality is good (towards soft end, less road noise). My previous 4 Potenza lasted for about 5 years (28000kms), they got close to worn out because it was my wife's car and I didn't bother doing yearly wheel alignment (which I regret). Not sure how the new ones will go (with yearly alignment).

NOTE: By "soft" I also mean I easily got nails/screws puncture with the potenza -_-z

      • I've been using these Potenza Adrenaline 235/45/R17 tyres since RE001, RE002 and now RE003 on my Ford XR6 turbo. These are performance tyres, excellent in wet and dry condition, very safe in high speed on wet motor way. However, they are soft and don't last long. In my experience, they only last about 2 years or 30,000 km. The RE003 is even worse, I put them on in Dec 2016, the car has only done 20,000km and they're already nearly worn out. I reckon they will last in about 5,000 km more.

If you do a lot of high speed high way in wet weather like north QLD or take the car for track day, they're very well worth it. Aquaplane at 110km/h will sure put you in a hospital or a morgue. If you usually just run around suburb and sometime motor way, you're better get the all season Supercats with harder compound.

@Terrywang: if you only do 28,000km in 5 years, you're not using your car, think about those rego, insurances, maintenance.

  • Good deal. Will buy some and put in storage for later…

  • Last time I got 4 Bridgestone Potenzas, 2 of them were completely worn on the edges after only 2 years (20,000km). Never again.

    • +1

      Poor alignment?

      • They did an alignment when they put on the Bridgestones.

    • +2

worn on edges? I don't think that is the tyre fault…..think about it

      • It's never happened with any other tyre, including the previous ones that were on the car. So where else could the fault lie?

        • +1

is it front only? It does sound like wheel alignment. It could also be tyre pressure…..do you check the pressure? May be worth checking and comparing with what is should be. If a tyre is aligned, the correct size and pressure I cannot see how this could happen….I may be wrong but they are the common reasons

Sux when u get a new set of tyres and that happens

Is there another driver who maybe drives more aggressively? I suppose another remote possibility is that someone else is taking corners faster and wearing the outside edges?

Which ones are they? Front or rear and is wear inside or out or both?

        • @slipperypete:

I don't check pressure except once a year when I get it serviced. But that said, my previous tyres (Kuhmos which came with the car new) lasted for 40,000 km (over 5 years) - twice as long. No one else drives car besides me. Wear is only on outside edge, and the tyres were on the back when I had them checked/changed although I suspect they were rotated at last service and were previously on the front.

        • @MrZ:
I would maybe get them checked to stop further mis balanced wear. It could be softer rubber compound which makes this wear more pronounced. I guess this is supposed to be a sportier tyre so may have a softer compound.

        • @slipperypete:

I already replaced the 2 worn ones with Hankooks, as they were unroadworthy and failed an Uber inspection. The 2 remaining Bridgestones are fine, however.

        • +3

@MrZ: Only checking tyre pressure once a year? Ouch! Unless you have your tyres filled with nitrogen, you should check the tyre pressure every couple of months.

        • @MrZ:

Good luck, hope these serve you better

        • @edfoo: I'd suggest checking the tyre pressures every other time you fill your tank. As then you've likely done enough milage to warrant a check.

Big temperature changes also are a good time to check the tyre pressures, get a digital tyre pressure tool if you're not too trusting of the used and abused servo air line.

    • interesting got my potenza because I got 7 years out of them 75,000 km

      215/50R17 91W got em at $252 x 3 get fourth free

      hoping for another 75,000

  • perfect timing for jax tyre amex $100 back deal.

  • I got quoted $405 for 205/55R16 91H and $405 for 215/60R16 95V Turenza tyres. Can I get it down any further, or is that a decent price?

    • Cash is king, make sure a balance and alignment is included, and go there in person ready to buy.

  • anyone know if you can buy 2 on one car and 2 on another car and still get 1 for free?

    • terms and conditions

Doesn't seem to mention it only being one car

    • The only reason they make this offer is to avoid the classic front to the back front new

  • +1

    Quoted $740 for 4 x 245/45R18 RE003 Potenzas + fit balance & align

I fracken HATE how they want me to sign up for a quote…tell me what the damn price is! Looking at 225/40R18 Potenzas

Sure it’s been said before but.

Get your quote then phone up Kmart and they will beat it by $5 a tyre.

  • +1

Had a really average experience dealing with my local tyrepower and wondering whether I should go further.

Asked for a quote yesterday for the Turanza tyres for my golf as my current Turanzas are in need of replacing, got a quote for $145 a tyre. I was pleased with this but asked if there were any other options and was told the Ecopias were $130 and both were in stock. Brought my car in this morning, asked for Turanzas and when I picked it up later it had Ecopias on it. I questioned the salesperson and they said the Turanzas I requested were $155 and were not on the 4 for 3 deal. I then questioned why I was charged $145 a tyre for Ecopias and they said thats how much they are and I should be happy with the deal as it's 4 for the price of 3.

Well i'm not happy, firstly they should of called me before putting the tyres on the car and now i've paid about $45 more for tyres I didn't ask for

    • +1

Turanza Serenity Plus are included in the offer and quality for a 50,000km wear life guarantee if you got a wheel alignment too. See the Bridgestone website. Go back to them and argue.

  • I find the serenry plus aquaplane a fair bit in water on the freeeway.

    235/45/17 falcon

  • Where does OzBargain buy rims from?

    • +1

Gumtree/ebay, with tyres included, got a full set of Mazda wheels, including 80% remaining tyres, around $250

  • Did anyone get this deal accepted at a Jax? I should get around to redeeming my $100 back from Amex offer before it expires…

    • Mine couldn't price match.
