      It upscales to 4k.

      • -1

Is the upscaling actually that good, though? Most I've seen are just not impressive at that pixel density.

        • -1

Upscaling is excellent from 1080p sources: https://www.techradar.com/reviews/sony-bravia-x850e-xbr-65x8…

Ps - I didn't downvote your original comment.

        • @Animus Furandi: This entire convo is being downvoted, which is weird. In my experience, I simply haven't been impressed with normal FHD content displayed on large screens. I guess some people are either less picky about pixel density, or are better at configuring their TV's than others, or scaler technology has improved massively in the past year.

I'm happy with 1080p at 40", not happy with it at 60" or higher. That's why I've still got a smaller panel — waiting for more of my video sources to go UHD to make the technology investment worthwhile (read: so that my investment is more longterm… I'll let TV technology evolve whilst delivery technology is also evolving, so when I get a larger UHD set, I'll have the latest and greatest picture technology.)

          @NWLikeShopping:
Heard of 4k Blu-ray and Gaming Consoles?

I wont say streaming cause that's not really 4k to that level though…

    • +4

Because your requirements not equals other people's requirements. 4k content is readily available not just for the "lucky ones" who can stream it. 1080p upscaled does look good, plenty of reviews to demonstrate this. Also viewing distance and room size is a big reason to get a bigger tv.

      • -2

Where's it available, mate? A few DVDs do not to me make for "readily available" content.

If you will see, my comment was "Doesn't typical cable and HD look blurry on a larger panel?", not "It looks like crud!". Leaving the door open to say, "Maybe you haven't seen the latest models, because it no longer looks like crud," which no one said. They just chose to downvote what I feel is legit input more based in reality (sorry, there is NOT a lot of 4K content out there) than opinion, and any improvement in 1080p pq is extremely subjective and I admittedly have not seen it.

I have similar thought until recent as:
1 My house connected to NBN FTTP 100/40
2 Much more 4K content release since last year, and all the new movies are 4K ready
      3 Netflix, Youtube, Xbox1 ….. all 4K..
      4 I am currently watching 120inch 1080P project from 3.5M so 75 inch is not a issue :)

Have you heard of these things called Bluray or video games?

  • Nice one.

  • Can you upload your receipt as proof?
As there is a massive difference in the price you paid & what’s on there website?
Make help others get the same deal. Thx

    • I am still outside and will post the recipe once back home

      • Thx

$3198 was the previous lowest price @ HN / JB / MYER according to pricehipster.com

        • That’s why I pull the trigger :)

        • +1

          Receipt uploaded

  • Having seen both in store, how would you rate this tv vs the N7 75 inch?

    • can't tell the different as they are playing different demo content.

      • Damn, actually hate when they do that

  • If only this was in Victoria, would go buy one right away

    • call up your local HN and get them to match - I managed to get them to beat the price and give it to me for $2750 with free delivery

Great deal but buying a useless extended warranty is a bit of a fail :)

    • any reason I should not buy extended warranty?

      • FYI, my 4.5yr old Sony 65inch died the other day, and I have the 5yr Product Care on it. Have just logged a claim and I apparently get a "new for old" replacement. Will let you know how it goes.

        • Thanks for sharing,. There you go ^_^ my 10 years old Sony lcd claimed twice. First time was 11 months and the second time was about 2 years so I don’t mind to pay a bit extra for a peace of mind

Under Australian consumer law, any product should last a reasonable length of time, e.g. a $3000 TV has a 1 year warranty, but dies after 18 months - a reasonable person would not expect a TV to last 18 months, and therefore the Consumer Law kicks in and the manufacturer\retailer is obliged to repair, replace or refund it depending on the severity of the problem.

        • +3

I suspect you'd probably be covered for closer to 3 years for a $3000 TV under the ACL provisions.

I asked LG to repair a 40" TV that failed at 24 months citing my "statutory warranty" when the manufacturers warranty was only 12months. . They did.

      • As others have already stated Australian consumer law already gives you a free extended warranty well past the manufacturer's warranty.

Someone posted a link with with actual case law showing 8 years lifespan isn't unreasonable.

      • Because it's priced at one-eighth the price of the TV !!
Harvey Norman would lose money if more than one in every eight sets they sold broke down out of warranty … but in reality, the failures outside the first year are likely to be at least an order of magnitude less.

If they have to pay out on one in every 50 sales (and I would guess that's a pretty generous failure rate) then pricing the warranty at $349 is ridiculous - it's 95% pure profit for Harvey.

  • A. Why did you buy an extended warranty when ACL provides this ?
    B. You have uploaded a ticket from JB Hifi for a Samsung 6 Series at $2798.
    C. Is it actually ticketed in that Harvey Store for $2798 or did someone accidentally put it through at that price ?

    • A: Correct me if I am wrong, ACL only cover 2 year so I extend to 5 year
B wrong pic updated, re-upload again.
      C. it's one day only sale.

      • Might be worth having a read here:
        http://www7.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/cases/vic/VCAT…

Guy had TV that was 2.5 years old. Was covered as all parties agreed the expected life of the TV was 8 years.

similar case was refused by Sony

        • @jackyljj:
Of course they will refuse, need to take them on.. they will refuse expecting you not to challenge it.

        • +1

@WeiKaiLe: so its down to a personal preference, as Sony warranty only 1 years. instead of wasting my time to proof the faulty, I chose to paid for a peace of mind

        • @jackyljj:
Yeah, you're paying for quick resolution. You'll be right under ACL but there will be an extended period without a TV while you raise the complaint and await the resolution.

        • @jackyljj: Sony cannot refuse ACL.

        • @Diji1: yes they can, unless you bought directly from them.

The retailer who sold you the product or service cannot refuse to help you by sending you to the manufacturer or importer. You can approach the manufacturer or importer directly, however, you will only be entitled to recover costs from them, which include an amount for reduction in the product’s value and in some cases compensation for damages or loss. You cannot demand a repair, replacement or refund from the manufacturer.

        • +1

My time working at JB someone threw acl around and JB refunded a 8 year set lol

        • @solidussnake: how much did it cost?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: it was only a 55" FHD non smart something like worth $2k

        • @solidussnake: how long ago was this hahaha as the new consumer laws only began late 2011m

    • My personal experience with extended warranty via Harvey Norman was my 3 year old samsung died. I had a 5 year extended warranty. The warranty mob arranged collection, it was deemed a major fault. They then rang Samsung and said its your problem not ours. Next thing I knew samsung was arranging a refund or offering a replacment. The warranty I Purchased was effectively useless in my opinion.. Really only covered the cost of the collection and inspection. I won't be buying it in future.

  • +1

I think you should get at least 5+ years of warranty under consumer law? (For this amount of a TV)

only if Sony simply refuse it and you have to deal with them via ACCC

      • Pretty sure you don't go through ACCC to apply ACL, you go through Consumer Affairs.

        • For this type of case, VCAT/NCAT/QCAT/other equivalent tribunals have original jurisdiction for individual disputes.

If it's a systemic problem, ACCC and/or Consumer Affairs may step in and prosecute the offending manufacturer in the public's interest.

    • Im pretty sure the Harvey extended cover is replacement , ACL is optional repair/replace up to the manufacturer

Unless its a major fault which generally means it will take an unreasonable time to fix , 30+ days

  • Was delivery part of the price and deal, or did you have to negotiate to get it? I cant see in the sticker where is stays delivery is included … just curious! =)

    • Today they have free delivery and table top install for any tv 55 inch or above

      • Went in-store, showed them your price, the receipt and was told "we can't match it, you can buy it from that store"….

        • Just for the record it's $3995 here in HN CitiCross SA

        • @db2k: staff said it's their store only

        • @jackyljj: bargain ++++++ well done mate

        • didn't even have to go into a store - called up and put down a deposit over the phone to get it at $2750 (called 2 stores in vic and both offered same price but only 1 of these had stock and the other had to check with Sony on Tuesday)

        • @Romka84: what did you say to get it at that price? were you lucky that the franchisee or floor manager knew of the castle hill price and offered it lower to clear out the last stock? in citicross as soon as i showed the sales guy the pictures he didnt want a bar of it …

        • @db2k:

Told them a NSW store had it at $2799 on the shelf on saturday and asked what the best price they could do is. The guy ummed and ahhed a little and then said he can do it at $2750. That store was out of stock so had to cancel that order but then called up another store and they matched the price and also gave me the free delivery and table top installation which they had on offer

        • @Romka84: OMG … good to see HN consistently being inconsistent … i went to the store and did the same thing and they wouldnt move, actually the sales rep told me to buy it from that NSW store and pay for delivery … wtf man

        • @db2k:

          Which store was that?

The one I phone first told me to go buy it there and when I said that was NSW and I'm in Melbourne and asked for the best price they could do is he came back with $2750 … didn't quite expect that but they didn't have stock so had to cancel that eventually and called up another store who not only offered it to me at that price but gave me the free delivery which the first store wasn't offering
          good old HN

  • wow plus 2k for flexirent.. bargain

    • That flex rent is a joke. Go master card option is interest free with 60 months equal payment.
