AVG Anti-Virus 2011 + a Few Other Software Packages $30

Looks like a great deal. AVG is half decent and with it being the paid version you get a firewall and some other features with it.

I only need AVG but good to get it at a discount and get some freebies :)

  • Also, i dont work for AVG before people start accusing me of that.

I used to recommend AVG to everybody i know but not anymore.
Their free version is is always pestering to buy the full paid version which causes problems for computer-illiterate people that don't read on pop-ups they click.

Same, now I can't stand it and wish I didn't recommend it! Thank god Microsoft dropped/removed the price on theirs. MS Security Essentials ftw :)

Some of the other software in this might be ok though, like foxit (I don't use it, but have heard good things about it).

    • I can vouch for that. AVG 2011 is an absolute dud.

I've been using it alongside the Remote Administration part of AVG 2011 Business Edition. Every time the update fails (at random intervals, btw) it will lock up the computer at startup and render it unable to boot.

The only way is to uninstall it from Safe Mode.

    • yep… they've stuffed it with too much marketting. i used to recommend but not anymore.

  • Yes i get that alot but generally with computer illiterate people its better to have 1 paid software than a combination of a couple of free software

The kasperksy Internet Security 2011 for $19 link posted the other day was much better value if you only wanted the security software.

Bought 2 off them [1 on ebay, 1 privately], both working very well =D

      P.S.
I just figured out via trial and error (and one computer reinstalling) if you reinstall windows (I'm not entirely sure you want to do this) at the end of the 1 year of the license, you can reactivate it as 365 days again =P

      What I did was this:
I had key a and key b on laptop 1 and laptop 2 respectively.
I noticed that after stuffing up an installation on laptop 2 and restoring to factory settings, after I reinstalled kaspersky and activated it again, it should have said 5 days used up (360 days remaining) but it says 365 days!
Now, I then put key a into laptop 2 and key b into laptop 1 (swapped it, I deleted the active licenses).
They both activated as 365 days again!
But when I tried to reswap them once more (revert to original keys), it remembers that the license was activated on your computer and shows the remaining days properly.
Oh, and do not use the same key twice, it'll work for the first few minutes but the next update, it'll say you have violated your user agreement. To counter this, delete the abused license from both computers you tried to use it on, and activate it on ONE computer and it'll work fine (this is why I ended up buying two)
$19 for kaspersky unlimited usage.. for me that's an epic deal ;)

Is it just me or is the price $28.73?

I suppose this is cheaper if one were going to buy the software, but there are very good if not better free alternatives.

MS Security Essentials, CCleaner, 7zip, PDFCreator.

    • MSSE is a much better product, and it's free. It has just recently gone to v2.0 which includes updates to the scanning engine as well as firewall checking. I use it on every PC I work on.

  • Bought it from Ebay last week, $20 shipped !

    Works perfectly.

I had AVG on my computer, it let in 5 viruses undetected and my updates were done daily, took it off and wouldnt use it if you paid me to it is crap.I have only used norton since and have not had 1 virus or any unauthorised entry on to my computer since and norton does not slow down your computer like many think itdoes, it is vastly improved.

    • i dont like AVG now, but Nortons is bloatware. Clogs down system performance way to much for my liking. as much as I hate to say it, MS security suite is the best freeware out there atm.

      • +3

Norton is actually quite light on resources now. It's not as bloated as it used to be.

The scanning speed however is something they still need to improve on.

  • You can get Kaspersky Internet Security for a bit over $10 on ebay…

    • $19 is the cheapest I've seen it.

    • I used to use kaspersky. but after 2 years i realized, with new versions, it is approaching speeds like old norton.
With all fears, Shifted to Norton (thanks to their almost free deals and paybacks), now and I am happy with it.

  • you can buy these software for free if you buy PC related magazines for about $10

    • But you still need to buy the magazine….
