[REFURB] $283.50 Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF i5-4570 8GB Ram 128GB SSD Windows 10 Pro @ Bneacttrader eBay

1290
P10EASTER

Howdy!

To take advantage of the 10% off site wide price I've dropped the base price of the popular 9020 stock.

It's a couple dollars more than the older 20% off promo's, but they do sell out fast and we aren't doing the 20% off promo's anytime soon.

Very popular machine for office / home use. They have the Dell 2.5" HDD Adapters so you can add an extra 2.5" HDD easily

Dell Optiplex 9020 SFF
Core i5 4570 3.2GHz (4C)
8GB RAM
128GB HDD
They have 7 Pro COA's but they are imaged with Windows 10 Pro.

The price will go back up to $339 when either the 10% ends or stock sell out. Only 120 units available

FYI, you can fit a 2.5" on top of the 3.5" without using the 2.5" hdd adapter

Also you can fit a 1050ti Low profile graphics card to make it a gaming machine.

Maximum hard drives you can put in is 3 as it only has 3 SATA ports

    • +2

I also used something similar to this from Aliexpress to make it look nice https://www.amazon.com/Optical-SuperDrive-Adapter-Unibody-Ma…

      And I have a 1050ti in mine :)

      • Any eBay links to the suggested 1050Ti so I can bundle together?

        • +3

I got mine from MSY :( cause I like to live on the edge :)

        • +2

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-4GB-Grap…

use the 10% P10EASTER sitewide code and it should bring it to $244.50 delivered

PC byte priced jacked theirs from $299 to $309. I got mine when it was $299 then applied the 20% off code to bring it down to $239.20

        • @Homr:

I've been out of computers for awhile so don't know what's good or not these days.

But would this setup with a 1050Ti be good to run GTA V??

        • +1

          @montorola:

          Yes and quite comfortably

Here's a youtube video showing the 1050ti with an older optiplex i5 (2 generations older than this deal) running GTA 5 with no problems.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XapSHJmvAsY

        • @Homr:

I got my 1050ti 4gb for 220 a year ago. Gpu mark up is scary man.

        • @Homr:

          Great, thanks Homr!

        • @Homr: Got a MSI 1050 Ti LP for $190 in Feb hehe.

        • @TheOneWhoKnocks: where and how?

      • Same here.. Though just to confirm I could not manage to install the 1050Ti-LP in x16 slot but working fine for now in the PCI x4 slot. Wanted to check if you were able to do some hack and K install in the x16 slot.

        • I have a 9010 and it only fits in the one slot

    • Same CPU I'm using for my gaming rig.

  • +5

As others have previously shared in previous deals, one can add a low-mid range card (up to GTX1050 Ti) to for some gaming capabilities also. (E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w45ZOcXXzs)

Edit: others have beat me to it =) (see above)

  • What SSD inside? Is it new or how old is the SSD?

    • It will be the original SSD.

    • +4

Obviously a used SSD .It'll be whatever drive Dell has on had for the week. They use Samsung, Toshiba, Lite-On, etc. No telling exactly what till you get your system unless you get a hold of the system SVCTAG and check exact system specs on Dell's site) but they're always decent quality.

      • Yep normally name brand, but they can be mixed.

        • Rep, the ebay listing now says 500gb hdd but your listing said 128gb ssd. Which one will it be please?

        • +1

          @lordra:

Promo has ended and listing has been updated.

Can the psu handle the 1050ti? Or I need to upgrade the psu as well?

    • +1

Yes it can, no need to upgrade the PSU

Dell PSUs are business grade so they can handle more than the recommended watts required

  • Hi all,

Is this good for plex home server?

    • +1

Perfect solution for a plex server. I personally use the i3 USFF version and it handles it no worries.

      • +1

Thanks for your response. In your experience, does it handle the transcoding very well? Would adding memory help? Also, can I just stick my external drive to a usb slot for plex? Your help is very much appreciated.

        • +3

I don't have any issues at all, only have 8Gb Ram. I only watch the bigger file size formats of movies (if you know what i mean).

Yeah you can use an external drive, but i'd recommend increasing the internal storage.

        • @Calmago: Thanks for your answer Calmago

        • +1

I use the exact same machine to run Emby Server (similar to plex). This machine can easily handle 3 transcoded streams at once.

Plex usually states you want a cpu passmark of 2000 for each transcoded stream

          https://support.plex.tv/articles/201774043-what-kind-of-cpu-…
Very roughly speaking, for a single full-transcode of a video, the following PassMark scores are a good guideline for a requirement:

          1080p/10Mbps: 2000 PassMark
          720p/4Mbps: 1500 PassMark
The CPU Benchmark website is a good resource to see what sort of PassMark score a particular processor received.

This machine has a 7000 passmark score
          https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4570+…

        • @xcx: Thanks, that clarifies a lot.

      • UPDATE: So I received the unit & set it up and it works great for the purpose I intended to buy. We tried multiple 720p streams, streaming on chromecast, etc and it works great.

        • It's actually a pretty decent piece of hardware, tech has slowed down and this was made a while back but at a 'peak' so to say. I used one as a daily driver PC for me with 16GB and SSD and it was great.

        • Awesome mate great to hear.

    • +1

If for minimal use get raspberry pi for plex server. It works like a charm for me.

      • I have that in place but it does not play well. E.g. when I try to Chromecast from my Plex app, it will take ages to buffer even though it is in from same network.

If I use my plex directory on VLC (on phone) then it will work very quickly. I have used RasPi to use it as file serving device and it works great but not same experience for Plex.

        • +1

This is likely a transcoding issue rather than ram. Plex can run on 1gb ram easily but needs CPU power to transcode.

        • @Xiongmao: yup that would be the case. a bigger cpu should solve, which is why I am considering to get this deal.

    • +2

      From the Plex site

for a single full-transcode of a video, the following PassMark scores are a good guideline for a requirement:
      1080p/10Mbps: 2000 PassMark
      720p/4Mbps: 1500 PassMark

      This scores 7000 PassMark
      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i…

So you should be fine transcoding several HD streams.

I started this in the forums
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/368618
(like you I'm looking for a Plex server),
Unless you need a server to do other stuff, it looks like a Nvidia Shield might be best bang for your buck as it does hardware decoding on h.264/265/MPeg2, https://support.plex.tv/articles/221099648-limitations-when-…

      It's now $250 on Amazon US https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/368860

These things are getting so cheap. I think the next time my home theatre pc that is cobbled together from about 5 different PCs finally blows up, I will get one of these. The only problem is HDD space. I guess a few USB enclosures or a NAS would suffice.

    • yeh you can't add more than 1 HDD in unfortunately. Probably the only cons of the SFF case.

I bought 8TB external HDD and going to shuck it. So my setup is 500gb SSD and 8TB HDD for storage.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/360589

If i need more space I'll just get more portable HDD since they are much cheaper than internal HDD

    • Look for the USFF version for THPC use. 4K output capable too.

      http://www.dell.com/support/manuals/au/en/audhs1/optiplex-90…

I picked one up for $100 with i5 4570s, 8GB RAM, 1TB 2.5" HDD, DVD/RW. Added an additional 256GB mSATA SSD for $85 making it a pretty cheap & powerful HTPC.

Page below has some nice photo's of the USFF which is ~1/2 the side on the one offered here:

      https://www.discountelectronics.com/dell-optiplex-9020-i5-us…

    • Just mod the tower. Heck, you can recover the side chassis, get a second case, jimmy them together, and suddenly you have twice the space lol. Might even let you replace the psu and gpu.

  • apart from sff, are there any size up but not full size? so we can fit 3.5inch hdd in?

    • 100% can fit a 3.5" drive in them, no problem.

      • +1

Dell sold them in the following formats:

USFF (ultra small form factor) -> SFF (small form factor- what is offered here) -> Desktop -> Mid-Tower

  • I have one of these just as my dekstop. I purchased the one with 4GB RAM and 250GB hard drive. I just threw some extra RAM in it I had laying around and I managed to to remove the 250GB it had in it and squeeze in my 1TB from my old computer. It hasn’t missed a beat, not that it has a hard life tho but I’d definitely buy another one if I had to. Mine was classified as ex-lease.

  • Are these systems comfortable under full load for 12~24 hours at a time?

    • Had 3 of these running for 3 months now never off, still OK.
Only problem if you have Win 7 in these machines, after a couple days the Windows Domain (the thing you use to publicly share folders on the network will go kaput, need to restart for it to be accessible again from other computers).
If you dont share folders on the network then should be aok.

    • +1

I'm just curious here, but what are you doing that they'll be under full load for those periods of time? :)

      • +1

Software development. Mostly for fuzzing at the minute but I'm also dabbling with some things that have long build/test cycles.

      • running a botnet

I have this unit and can confirm it can play all 3 age of empires games

    • +13

      and solitaire @ 60FPS

      • What resolution though?

  • Could someone please help me with this question: could I rip the motherboard out of this and into my nice-and-quite HTPC box (which houses micro-ATX board) and a my GTX960?
Was thinking this might be a good way to upgrade an old Phenom II x4 955.
The price of RAM these days really makes a cheap upgrade much more difficult (for example a new g4560 or i3-7200).Also the I5-4570s are still very capable chips.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • +4

Don't have this PC, but based on my experience with Bneacttrader, earlier in the year, I would buy from them again.
I purchased a Lenovo which was in pretty good condition. Fair bit of dust in the air intake, but that was easily fixed with an air compressor.

Has been running 24/7 without any issues.

  • Anyone know what motherboard is in these things?

  • +1

I have two of these. Chucked in a 1050ti low profile - works like a charm in the gaming one, and chucked a low end Radeon for 3 monitor support as my partners work PC - also works fine :)

    • +1

hi mate, what fps are u getting in overwatch/csgo/dota/pubg etc?

      thanks

    • Do you have a link for the compatible video card? Cheers.

      • +1

I bought the gigabyte 1050ti low profile together with this and just installed it today. No issues. Its running perfectly for me. Pretty happy with it.

  • Hey mate, can you share if it is old machine with lip balm or new machine with some scratches?

  • Does it have a HDMI port?

  • -1

Can anyone recommend a cheap monitor for this - just for word processing, viewing the web, kids' educational games, etc., probably around 23" - no need for high performance for gaming, etc.

  • Just wanted to 100% confirm this has space for an extra 3.5mm hdd?

    • +7

Wow that's a very tiny HDD

      • Whoops. Meant " not mm haha.

        • +10

Sure, that's what every bloke says 😆

  • Nice machine for a pfsense firewall running vpn

  • Cheers OP, got one just now. Can anyone suggest any upgrades for this for a basic office use pc? I saw some monitors on MSY for 200buvks and I guess a 1tb 3.5 hdd should suffice for storage.

  • Besides monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. Is this ready to go? Or do you need to purchase a motherboard, CPU?

    • +1

lol? it's ready to go mate, no need to add in a CPU or MB

      • Sorry, I meant to put power supply. Not CPU.

  • "imaged with Windows 10 Pro" - does it mean that it can be upgraded to win 10 Pro with its current win 7 licence?

    Thanks.

PS or does it mean that there is an image on it that you can restore for a fresh win10pro installation with valid licence?

    • Likely means that it had Windows 7 Pro originally and has since been updated / imaged to Windows 10 Pro.

  • Ordered 3 of these for my work!

  • Nooooo will you have anymore or any other similar deal?

  • Anymore of these?
