For sightseeing? Definitely Haikou. Zhengzhou is for culture trip / food, etc. It sits in the tier 2, less developed compared to East shore but not too bad.
Thanks :)
Wow. Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Bellpop! Glad you like it! Always scary posting a deal on here not knowing how it'll be received :P Check out our website for more deals :D
Don’t be scared. Post heaps. I can’t imagine anyone not appreciating a cheap holiday 👌
Most iphones are made in Zhengzhou now. Not sure if they have a iphone outlets there
Can we get this post removed? The first rule about FlightClub is supposed to be that we don't talk about it.
Haha hope you've joined the Club ;)
The second rule of Fight Club is: You DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!
And my axe!
Sydney - Tianjin is the same price too
Wish there were deals like this from Melbourne :( First the Haikou deal, now this.
Probably wrong place to ask but when tax season comes and I have $400-600 back from tax to spend on a holiday where is the cheapest place to fly to? Maybe cheap accommodation as well? Might be the wrong place to ask and might get negged but just wondering on your insight
Bali or Bangkok? Plenty cheap flights and accommodations on both places. China would be a bit more expense unless you can find 200 bux flight. The visa cost alone would be more than 100 bux usually.
All right thanks mate :)
Cheers mate :)
Hello fellow OzBargainers Zhengzhou is my home town and if you have any questions regarding food, culture, travel, accommodation or tourist destinations in Zhengzhou or nearby cities within Henan province you can ask me and I'll happily answer them where I can! Cheers:)
Thanks! Where else in SE Asia would u liken it? What’s the vibe?
Do you mean where in SE Asia it is comparable to?
Yep,
@Bellpop: I've not been to many places in SE Asia but I've studied in Singapore for 7 years and been to a few cities in Malaysia and Indonesia. I've yet found any place that's quite Zhengzhou in terms of the general profile of the city.
ZZ is a city of about 10 million population and its established area is about that of Sydney, maybe a bit smaller from my personal feelings travelling in these two cities. It has about 3.6 million motor vehicles and there are often traffic jams everywhere so the best way to get around the city is just to use its metro system which currently has 2 lines and connects all the major destinations such as airport, train stations (of which there are 2 main ones for passenger trains), city centre and some other places of interest.
Unlike many places in SE Asia which gives one a strong feel of ethnicity and sometimes a religious atmosphere (eg Buddhism in Thailand and Islam in Indonesia), most of ZZ is relatively new, and there's still lots of construction going on and the air is not that good but it's getting much better since late last year.
The convenience really lies in connectivity. ZZ has Asia's largest High Speed Rail train station with high speed trains to almost every other major city in China, eg 2.5 hours to Beijing, 4 hrs to Shanghai, 2 hours to Wuhan, 5 hours to Guangzhou (or Canton), 2 hours to Xi'an, and many other places in between. Within Henan province (place where ZZ is), you could take the metro and go to the train station and take the train to many tourist destinations within 1 hour, say Shaolin Temple, or Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang.
Hope this helps!
@xiabonan: amazing summary. Thanks heaps. Very helpful!
@Bellpop: no worries!
Thanks for the offer!
If you've been to Xi'an, then ZZ is like a newer and marginally more economically developed Xi'an but has much less of Xi'an cultural attractions and also its historical buildings. If you've been Wuhan, it's like a more chaotic (in the sense that there's a lot of constructions going on), less populated Wuhan.
Zhengzhou city itself has few places I would say is really worth going, but on the outskirts there are several places that I can actually recommend. Mount Song in Deng Feng is actually worth going, it's about an hour drive away I believe you can take a coach there. The Shaolin temple is there too so if you want to have a look you can do that too, but don't anything you'll get scammed. Just say no to anyone who's trying to sell you anything you'll be fine. It's been almost ten years since I last went there not sure if it's gotten any better but better safe than sorry. Also, Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang is definitely worth going too. There's a bullet train you can take and it's about 45 mins and it's stopping directly there. If taking the coach is not your thing and you're not much interested in the Shaolin temple, Wutai Mountain in nearby Jiao Zuo city is worth checking out too. It's got a serene feeling to it and is more convenient as there is a bullet train too. It's about 45 mins as well.
Check out the the Hui Mian and Hulatang! Hui mian is a kind of flat wide noodle with mutton soup, it's not too heavy and is more focused on the original flavour of the soup and the noodles. Hulatang is more of a morning breakfast food in ZZ but it's rather spicy and has lots and lots of flavours as there are lots of herbs and spices being added during its cooking process.
I've yet found restaurants in Sydney that has good zz food but once I do I'll update in this post:)
Great work! Never thought of Zz to be on my travel list
What airline is this?
Tianjin Airlines, Part of the Hainan Group :D
But no VoA?
The Terracotta Warriors are a short bullet train ride away. They are a must see.
Anyone found any dates where they can actually get the $294 fare? I have found a range between 350-520. But can't actually find the cheap dates?
The tax is not included in the price. Added up it is near 500, a deal?
Shaolin temple is there. Needs a bus/car ride out of the city.
I am just trying to book one of these, but don't have a passport - my application is in. Is there anyway to book and add passport details later?
Wow, cheap! How’s Zhengzhou compare to Haikou?
