This is the cheapest I've seen the deal directly from Dell. It was a bit cheaper through eBay back when they had 20% off. Pretty good price for the 8th Gen model.

Yeh specs wise and value for money the Zenbooks are unmatched. I've just had really good experiences with Dell and them fixing my stuff no questions asked. It's hard for me to leave them now.

    • Dell's after sales support is unparalleled to Asus'. It is like pulling teeth out with Asus.

    • Thanks mg_k, ended up buying the 14" Zenbook. Here's hoping I don't need to test their warranty.

    • Is the touchpad for the zenbook a glass surface one?

Lenovo v330 posted recently is cheaper and on i7 for $1011 direct from lenovo.

    Acer nitro raised the bar.

None of those are really comparable to the XPS though.

Laptops like the Acer Nitro are more like the Inspiron series than the XPS. The XPS has better build quality, is much more solid and is much lighter due to the carbon fibre construction.

  • Has the touchpad on the Dell XPS 13" improved? I bought one 2 years ago, and it was bad from day one. And has only gotten worse. When I bought it, I did research, and saw that other people complained about the touchpad, but bought it anyway. Mistake.

Also the laptop and power block get VERY hot. Two months ago the mother board or something major melted down. I had to get Dell to replace it. I have bought only Dell for at least 10 years. But the XPS 13" is frustrating.

Any news if these problems with the touchpad and overheating have been improved?

    • Still very hot while normal running, just go to jb hifi and have a feel.

This is the older XPS model but with the latest 8th gen CPU. The new XPS has the camera in center at bottom of screen

    • Thanks for pointing that out. Was checking out reviews for the new model without realising the difference.
