Hmm i am a bit hesitant to give out personal details like name, address and ID numbers

always required when activating a prepaid.

  • It's expensive compared to Amaysim (which also uses Optus network). No bargain here.

    • And the TPG pay as you go plan is even cheaper, so a doubly lack of bargain here.

    • Amaysim seems 20-50% HIGHER than Virgin pre-paid, ie, when user recharges on-line & selects "Beencounter" recharge.

      Talk: 10 cents / min
      SMSs: 10 cents each

      Compare to Amaysim rates: talk @ 15 cents/min; SMS @ 12 each

IMO, that'd make BOTH Savvy & Amaysim NO DEAL by comparison.

Amaysim is a much better deal if u need long credit expiry (ie if you use the phone infrequently) as credit lasts 90 days & min recharge is $10 (virgin bean counter lasts only 45 days + $25 min recharge)
And TPG PAYG looks like a post-paid plan (meaning you could accidentally spend more money than you can afford) and has a 10c flagfall and $40 onnection fee. Hmmm

        • If you are very infrequent (ie almost no calls or you just want to receive calls) there's also the Virgin long expiry plan, which'll hold credit for 180 days or longer.

        • The Virgin long expiry plan is very expensive though.
          28c SMS, Calls 40c flagfall + 78c/min !!

"Just Mobile" have a much better deal - $15 recharge lasts 180 days. 30c/min (per sec), no flagfall. 15c SMS. Only -ve is its using the vodafone network which has been getting some bad press lately.

        • Ahh k.

Virgin long expiry is only better then, for people receiving calls from Virgin users.

  • Sweet deal a free sim with $5 credit.

You'll find your account with Savvytel will inadvertently be disconnected and to never be connected again even after a $20 recharge a few weeks earlier. Phone callss to support WILL NOT help though they (he) promises all will be well. This happened to me and other stories you can read on Whirlpool.
Lebara, Amaysim and TPG pay as you go are fine.

      lebara…don't bother with them.

  • My dad's been on Savvytel for over a year (he flies in and out every few months) and so far haven't had any problems. I too used them very briefly about 3.5 years ago (for about a month or two) and at the time they gave me no problems either. Only reason I left is because I found a better deal.

I believe they are now called SavvyMAX, and are now delivered on the Optus network (previously on Vodafone).

One of my mates used to be with Savvytel. They have the worst customer service ever.
Last year they switched their network from vodafone to optus. While going through the upgrade some customers (including my friend) were left stranded without a clue with no service. After numerous calls to customer service and still no fix my friend finally gave up on whatever unexpired credit there was and switched to another telco.
Average wait time for their customer service is around 1.5 hours. And if you are lucky enough to reach a customer service rep you will mostly get a weird reply stating: "We are just like an answering machine for Savvytel. We can't do any technical troubleshooting; we can arrange a callback within 2 hours" Of course no one ever calls back. From our experience It is clear this company simply has no credibility.

  • sorry but another one of savveytels victims here, i also signed up a friend who also became a victim and lost their $60 of credit because of the above bungle

  • i have no experience with them , i just posted the deal in case some of you needed an extra free sim. if the free sim in fact comes with $5 credit then theres nothing to loose and hopefully the $5 credit will never expire and i can keep on receiving inward calls. i dont plan to be making calls using it as i know there are better deals such as voip etc. btw I simply entered a random number for a foreign passport to order my free sim as i dont like giving out my ID to a company i dont know much about.

  • For just receiving call without credit expiry, I think is great deal.

People are recommending TPG, but it sounds like a rip-off to me, if you look at the terms and conditions they will charge you $11 for terminating the contract, on top of that is a $20 "Sim charge" that nobody else charges.

  • I'm with TPG, I pay $49 a month and receive $1000 credit plus 500mg of data. While it's a good deal, the customer service is absolutely appalling, you get put on hold for a really long time, then some indian who doesn't understand a word your saying answers your call. So I would say it's all okay until something goes wrong..you can do most things with them over the internet anyway.

    Sierra.

  • Thanks I received my card today
