Ultrasonic Cleaner, Easy Home from ALDI $29.99

230

Full-wave operation
Suitable for CDs, jewellery and glasses
Ultrasonic frequency 46kHz
600ml tank volume
5 working cycles

I bought this to clean the heads the homedics microdermabrasion as per this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351349

I had searched for one a month or so ago and the cheapest I could find from a major retailer was $99 from Kogan.

It worked a treat for cleaning the microdermabrasion heads, my wedding and engagement ring - all are now very sparkly.

Special buy commencing today Saturday 10/03/2018, I believe this is nationwide, there was about 10 units at 9am at my local Aldi on the Gold Coast in QLD.

Autoclave might be more effective here.

    • It is meant to work on precious items only.

Who even has a ultrasonic which needs cleaning?

  • So will you require to treat the machine regularly for limescale build up? (like with bottle sterilisers, etc)

What happens if I try to clean my ultrasonic screwdriver with this?

    • +7

      Nuclear reaction. Cataclysm.

      • +2

That's easy to avoid, just reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.

Or reduce the flux capacitor voltage.

  • Can OP update with more info. Is this at all Aldi's nationwide or your Aldi? Is it a special buy? If so what week? Is it a past special buy? Wouldn't want to go to Aldi and its clearance just in OP's store.

  • For those who don't know what this is. People use this to clean metallic items. It does not work on plastic. I personally use my ultrasonic cleaner to clean metallic components of my scuba regulators.

    • +1

Ultrasonic cleaners definitely work on plastic!

    • Yes it's mostly used for cleaning metal and gemstones. I think it does work on plastic since one of the stated purposes is to clean CDs.

    • should I use this to clean my rolex watch?

      • +3

Only if you are very sure of its waterproofness. I'd personally remove the head and clean just the bracelet.

      • +1

Definitely not for watch heads, unless you want to pay for a service. SS bracelets are fine.

      • +1

I don't. In general, even if you are sure the watch completely waterproof, the commonly held practice is to remove the bracelet and use the ultrasonic cleaner on only the bracelet.

Also, if this ultrasonic cleaner is anything like the one I bought from ALDI from 2012, it should have a plastic insert that specifically submerges the bracelet while keeping the watch above the water.

Anyway, these things are awesome for getting crud out of places that are hard to reach. OTOH, if the dirt you're meaning to clean is the kind that is stuck on so bad that you can't scrape it off, then not so good.

        • whoa thanks for the info, so something that can clean bracelets is cool in my books.

  • Anybody tried washing vege & fruit with this before? Remove the dirt only.

    • +1

Nope. But this unit is only 600ml, so you wouldn't be able to put much in. You can buy much bigger 10l+ ones for washing fruit and vegetables.

My missus uses one for her jewellery. Its amazing how much crap they can get out. Cleaning couldn't be easier.
    Good things to have, imo.

Thanks OP, got one from Aldi Cannington WA.

    • Cheers op, picked one up. 3 or so left @ 12:30 in the Cannington, WA branch.

  • Would this be big enough to clean a motorcycle carburettor?

    • +1

The fillable tank size is about 12cm wide x 15cm long x 4.5cm high/water depth. I don't know how big a carburettor is. You might be able to do one side at a time, i.e. flip it over and clean each side, as the water isn't very deep.

    Bought three! — …. —..— morse!

    • sell them at the old folks home or give one to your grandpa or granny …. great for cleaning dentures

  • bought this morning, already used to clean a proportional valve from car, and some little springs with surface rust on them.

    • scale of 1-10, how happy you are with the job?

      • For the price, I dunno, 10? I used to use industrial cleaners, and these seem to do the same job, just on a much smaller scale

  • In Victoria, Bayswater store had none that I could find. Ferntree Gully had around 6 left as of posting.

  • Serious question though; would this Aldi unit be any good? Are these somewhat like toasters where they perform a simple task and there's not much difference between a $7 and $70 toaster?

    • +1

Yes. Just don't run it for too long. You'll stress the transducer. When the water gets hot, it's time to stop.

    • +2

I just cleaned my wife's diamond earrings and diamond necklace. Looks fantastic.

      • +2

Time to flip them on ebay? :D

    • they are fine ….. as they bigger get bigger they add more transducers …. so this aldi 600ml is the same as most 600ml cleaners

    • They have a 3 year warranty on the product, so worth a try.

  • +1

Grabbed one from Parafield Gardens, 5 left.
    Thanks OP

  • +1

very good for cleaning cartridge razors …..gets all the gunk out of between the blades that running water from the tap doesn’t seem to clean properly, and they shave much better when clean.

they are great around the house, i have a 600ml one and 3 litre one.

  • Just be careful with jewellery, it can damage certain types.
Though it is a good cleaner, ionic cleaners are better.

    • No pearls or soft gemstones. Remember to use the plastic baskets supplied.

    • I've heard there's a chance stones could loosen, though I guess it's going to be a problem if they are poorly set in the first place… Any truth to this?

Also noticed this on the page for the Kogan cleaner…

"Stones unsuitable for ultrasonic cleaning: certain emeralds, onyx, opal, tanzanite, lapis lazuli and turquoise, pearl, heat treated stones, amber and coral."

    • So no good for diamond rings?

  • Couldn’t find in Broadway 3:30pm Sunday.

  • here's a basic review on the unit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sijsYbGeUE4

    Same one as ours.

  • +2

Used it on all kinds of jewellery. Works great! But I find that running it for a second 600s cycle makes things come out cleaner than a single cycle. So worth giving things a bit of extra time.
