I saw this at Costco Moorabbin, VIC on Thursday 8th March 2018. It is their regular price and looks like plenty in stock.

As a business, this is an amazingly stupid price to sell at because these babies are always in shortage. As a consumer, this is an amazingly stupid price to sell at.
As a consumer? There's nothing stupid about getting it as cheap as possible.

Costco has something to gain though.. they can sell new memberships and convert people into buying other items. JB can't do that. If JB priced it the same, people can come and buy the headphones then leave and not come back. Costco gains $60, with a chance to make more money off you on other products, and get a repeat customer out of it and repeat memberships, also the chance of word of mouth from the customer helping generate more customers, and so on.
Sigh, it was a joke based on it being amazingly stupidly low price whereas the first part is interpreted in the other way.
I like how someone else is carrying the banner for the lowest price on these because now we can just point to Costco when Sony complains to us.
Jokes like that in text format are not the most effective. Usage 'stupid' in the second context is not widespread enough for it to work as a pun. It was only recently that I'd heard people refer to stupid as good.
when and why do Sony complain to you? Do they control the price and dictate what is the lowest they can sell it for?

Those are just display cards, doesn't really indicate stock levels. Who knows how many are actually available.

@snippy: thanks guys persistence paid off. I escalated to manager who continuously said all they can do is a refund, I said I've paid petrol and tolls to get here I want a pair of headphones comparable or better. Finally they went to the back and to my surprise came out a pair. I suspect they might have tried the sneaky bigw staff trick of having stock out the back for themselves.

this might help. i called up costco at around 3pm today. they told me that staff were only just putting up the display. i asked if there was alot of stock and i was told that they had only received 8 pieces.

Don't know if it is or not, but it certainly does look like that. Costco is bit of a strange shop at times. They will randomly bring some stuff and once it's gone, it is never seen again. They used to sell Rockport shoes, but haven't seen them for at least a year. Also, never seen these Sony headphones and they randomly start selling it and it is all gone in a day… and it's not coming back.
i did hear a sales person saying that its the noe of the first few times they brought it in, so they weren't sure how quickly it'll sell. and he said they might be on order, but there isnt any order seen in the system at the moment. only way to do this is to wait it out and check back in a week. …

sold out in vic. 1 or 2 said they managed to price match with JB but i tired the one at springvale and they said no. so unless we have a JB HiFi receipt there isnt a set at 279.99 at the moment. Costco staff said to wait and see if they would restock

Yes, you can use these headphones with the included cable as wired headphones. When they're wired and powered on, noise cancellation will be active. When powered off, no noise cancelling, just regular headphones.
Can you suggest a better set of wired headphones for the same or less $?

Assuming that you’re comparing it to the beat studio wireless 2.0. Besides the style (which is subjective) and the form factor, Sony is better in every other aspects compared to beats.

Tried at jb northland VIC with no luck. Said lowest price they can do is 440. Same answer from jb at high point. Called Sony centre and they also won’t match that price. Best they offered was $380
This makes me laugh at the retailers and their stupid margins. Overseas the headphones are selling about usd$250 so the prices are coming down fast. I would say moving forward anything more than $300 is not worth buying.
Yeah. Got good advice from a manager (I think he might be an ozbargainer) at one store who would've price matched, but they were out of stock. Said that any store COULD match the deal that Misam0810 got (if they say they can't, they're lying), but that they still can refuse to, and you can't do much about that. Best thing to do is to escalate to the store manager if the staff refuse. I was lucky and got a manager at another store with stock to price match after the staff told me they couldn't. Good luck
Tried Frankston (McMahons road) and they did it. Rang yesterday and who ever was manager was happy with it so it was a done deal when I went today.
