half the price of the console … lol

    • -2

again this is like ps5 pro, it's not for everyone.

      • +12

Understand it's not for everyone but just seems the price of these is a bit ridiculous. 3x the price of the very decent standard controller seems they just hiked the price knowing people will pay it because they just want 'the best'. Valid I don't know much about these controllers because the price caused me to have no interest but even if it were 2x the standard I would be questioning if it's really worth it.

        • +6

These would have a massive margin, and are unlikely to improve the performance of the average player.
However, if people want to pay it the price is obviously set correctly for the market.

8bitdo have hall effect sensor thumb sticks and you can pick them up for $32. Goes to show how cheap these things are to produce.

Heh I paid less than this for my brand new Switch non OLED after cashback and TRS. Crazy expensive price for a controller.

      • Where from?

        • +2

Big W using 35% Woolworths cashback. Then stack with paying on e-gift cards and claiming GST refund when going overseas

          • +1

@0 0 0: So leave the country to save money?

            • @AnonyL: Yep of course. Score yourself cheap international tickets and claim GST back to make it even more worthwhile!

    • +1

      More than half 😎

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/878977

Even worse, it's more than 4 times a regular DualSense.

  • +3

Sony tax is on par with Apple tax…. lol

  • +2

Can you elaborate on why you can't use a standard controller?

    • +4

Get used to using the back buttons for sprint and dodge in any game that uses them

      • +2

Wish it had 4 back buttons. I cannot downgrade from the x box elite to 2 back buttons.

        • +2

Extremerate backpaddle kits can give you 2 or 4 paddles for only a small portion of the (insane) price of one of these. Pretty straightforward install too.

          • +1

@XVX: I did extremerate mod on PS4 and PS5 stock controllers (twice on two separate PS4 controllers). It had quirks EVERY TIME. I’m not a newbie to modding and soldering, the units were just buggy - controller DC/powercycle. In two cases if you held the controller two tightly a trigger would misfire/malfunction.

The Dual Sense edge back buttons wipe the floor with the extreme rate.

Also, for people who complain about the price, I’ve swapped out 2 stick modules after they developed stick drift since purchase. Swapping out a~$30 part isn’t as good as a controller with Hall effects TMR sticks, but it’s better than buying a new stock PS5 controller everytime (or having to crack it open and try to replace the stick).

Dual sense edge is so far the best controller I’ve owned hands down - in comparison with an Xbox elite, ~8 PS4/PS5, and 2 Flydigis with Hall effects sticks.

            • @Rebengaaa: As someone who is pretty experienced with modding and has installed plenty of extremerate mods to controllers, it sounds like you might have just been doing something incorrectly if you were experiencing the same repeated issues. I haven't had a single issue in any of the units I have done the installs on so far, so I can certainly recommend them based upon that.

Also swapping out a $30 part is already robbery happening, when you could just spend 20 minutes opening the controller and using some isopropyl alcohol to clean the contacts inside the potentiometers, which is what I do to fix drift on controllers and it works perfectly every time. Far less waste created and far cheaper as well.

      • I haven't looked at these for a while. Has anyone put out a controller of x-mouse to allow users to re-map buttons &/or combos to the back buttons, or are they still limited to the default options?

        • To do fn button binds etc I used to have to use some paid steam app, then DS4win. Thankfully support is now provided in Steam (enable Steam input).

  • +8

Just make a controller with hall effect sensors you stupid (profanity)

    • +4

same to xbox elite!!!! Stop making landfill!

  • +1

i bought 1.5 years ago at a cheaper price. it never goes on sale.

  • +1

I started looking at upgrading to this but then started seeing custom controllers….

Anyone able to share feedback on the carbxn works controllers?
    https://www.carbxn.com.au/
Especially with the thumbs ticks being TMR Electromagnetic ?

    • +2

I was curious about CARBXN, but then I decided against it because there doesn't appear to be a way to switch between analog and hair-trigger. Unless I'm mistaken, it's all-or-nothing because there is no switch to change modes. I don't have a PS5 so using a Vader 3 Pro on PC is good enough for now even though I prefer a symmetrical layout.

I'm guessing console is the only option for you??

      • Yeah, ps5. Only reviews I can find are on judge.me and their website, a few reddit comments mentioning them but that's about it. Claims to be better than scuf.

      • +1

I would Get an xbox elite 2 controller for pc. You can have 4 back buttons and it is implemented well for pc. Just remember the white one has no paddles. not sure about this site but seems cheap https://au.webuy.com/product-detail?id=889842196382

        • +2

Webuy.com is the website for the CEX outlet, which deals in second hand goods. They’re legit, have a stack of stores, but the pricing is for second hand items and for a controller, that could mean less than perfect controllers that have been traded in ranging from scuff marks to less than 100% sticks or batteries.

The low price is because its second hand.

          • @Smigit: ok yeah don't get 2nd hand controllers. Stick drift nightmares i am willing to bet….

      • +1

Got my controller customized through Carbxn. Very happy with the result - the mouse click buttons are day and night compared to the old, and extremely responsive.

Back triggers are handy for fps but take a bit of getting used to, given the way I traditionally held the controller.

For $140 + the cost of the original controller, this seems to be the cheapest option.

        • +1

Ever used the paddles for comparison or buttons only?

          • +1

@Martop: I've never had paddles on my previous controllers

    • +1

I've purchased from them before. I have an issue with my hall effect thumbsticks, I just need to pay for return postage even though the issue is with a faulty part they used and I noticed it within the first couple days. Not something you'd expect from something so pricey. They are quick to respond, no issues with their service so far.

  • +1

This post prompted me to get a regular DualSense as they’re on sale as well, thanks OP!

  • +3

Sony should have included this, the stand and a disc drive with the Pro.

  • +1

Mine drifts after 1.5yr. What annoys me is that I cannot find edge stick modules anywhere to replace the faulty sticks.

    • Sorry to hear that. I suspected that this would be a problem with the Edge. You could try to mod the sticks if you don't want to throw it in landfill.

Worth a crack if you or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron.
Considering the price of the edge, it could even be worth paying someone at one of those mobile phone repair shops to do it for you.

    • Rip - sooooo many modules in stock around me (but I’ve bought two in reserve just in case)!

      • Where mate? I’d like two modules but can’t find them anywhere.

        • +1

My local JB Hifi stores in Canberra have em - I’ve seen em in the Canberra Centre and Fyshwick. Maybe you can ship em in from other JB stores?

  • Can anyone tell me what it's like using the DualSense's touchpad as a mouse on PC?

    • +1

Edit: it works pretty well. What do want to do with it? It probably ain’t gonna work well for aiming etc, but for desktop stuff it’s fine.
