Osram Ledvance 7W Dimmable LED Gimble Downlight Kit $9.95 @ Bunnings

140

A bargain at $9.95 as the individual components will add to about $30 plus…..

I needed some "transformers" and it was cheaper to buy the kit than just the transformer by itself….
Although the 6500k LED is a bit "daylight".

Also it produces nil RF noise, so no interference to your HF radio if that may be an issue for you :)

The Ledvance Economy LED Downlight Kit in satin chrome finish features a high performance 7W MR16 lamp with 500 lumen light output. With a beam angle of 60° the downlight delivers an intensity of 500 candelas. The 6500K daylight colour temperature makes it perfect for environments requiring clean, bright light such as kitchens, the office and study areas. Kit includes LED globe, chrome gimble fitting and pre-wired transformer with plug.

  • did you open the plug end to remove the power cord , and hardwire ?

    • no I didn't as I was testing in a powerboard for RF noise issues but it has a removable cover so you can hardwire if needed….

    • You should be using a Clipsal 413 surface socket or equivalent.

6500K, that's standard lighting in the CIA's interrogation rooms!

Wouldn't dimmable help to reduce the brightness?

  • Isn't 500 lumens pretty weak for a 7W LED?

    • No it's equivalent to a 35W IR halogen, which is not far off a standard 50W halogen.

An AC transformer in 2018? seriously?

Please tell me it is actually a switch-mode supply.

    • An AC transformer in 2018? seriously?

Very few products run directly of mains voltage and nearly every product uses a transformer of some kind.

Please tell me it is actually a switch-mode supply.

Why? Can't you see that for yourself in the image?

      • He’s being fussy with the terminology. Formally, a switch mode power supply isn’t a transformer.

        • Actually, I was mistaken, and did think from the picture it really was a transformer.

    • An actual transformer would be great: hi efficiency, lasts forever.

  • it's $7.95 now, from the link provided by OP.
