You guys do know hokkaido baked cheese tart is actually the malaysian knockoff of the original Japanese Bake Cheese Tart yes? https://www.8days.sg/eatanddrink/newsandopening/japan-s-bake…

    http://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/food/which-is-the-real…

    • And why does that matter?

      • +2

because some folks may buy that thinking they are buying the original baked cheese tart brand due to the blatant mimicry branding? more information to make a better informed decision no?

        • +1

If we have a choice then probably. We don't have a choice in Australia do we?

        • @Letrico:

Unfortunately we dont. but thats besides the point of calling out a misrepresented brand product. Even in Singapore with both brands, many do not even realize this until pointed out to them. Most wonder why their cheese tart taste different after trying both.

"Customers of Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart that The Sunday Times spoke to did not realise it was a different brand." (straits times)

        • @allmails888: Which goes back to my initial question. Why does it matter?

Since we do not have a choice, there is only one baked cheese tart to buy from what knowing that it is not the original brand does not make it a not edible. Whether it is a knock off makes no difference.

Unless you are trying to say they are not the original so people should not support them because they are knockoff?

        • +1

@Letrico: I do not support deceptive knockoffs based on personal principles. I believe there are others like me as well. So being better informed helps.

        • -2

@allmails888: as I said before, would make sense if there was choice but we don't which makes the Hokkaido baked cheese tart the "original" in Australia at the moment until the the real one comes.

What do you eat and what clothes do you buy since everything is a knockoff of something?

        • @Letrico: lol. this is not a necessity product dude. you dont need a cheese tart like you do clothes and other food. you gotta chill. its up to the individual to decide to patronize this shop or not. more information is always better. unless you are a troll here or representing the shop. not sure which. anyways, shant respond any further.

        • -3

@allmails888: I just find your own statement very contradicting to your own actual belief like a hypocrite but of course I don't judge.

It is like talking to a vegan that wears leather jacket.

      • Beacuse they use "Hokkaido" (Japanese island famous for dairy products) in their name. http://jpninfo.com/10808
Would be like imported Chinese cheese calling itself "Bega".
        Deceptive and sneaky marketing

        • -3

By your logic, any company name with some other country name are all deceptive and sneaky marketing?

I guess Spanish Churros, Mexican Taco, American Burger, Japanese Sushi are all deceptive and sneaky since they are all made locally but named with countries that the food is originated from.

        • @Letrico:
This is quite area specific, not country in general.
Hokkaido is an area within Japan specifically famous for dairy products, much like Bega, NSW or King Island, Tasmania.
The company is obviously attempting to cash in on that idea and deceive the casual observer that they are from Japan when in fact they are not
They clearly are unethical and use dodgy and sneaky business practices.

        • -2

@King Tightarse: suit yourself. If you can accept something but reject the rest because it doesn't suit your way of thinking sure.

        • @Letrico:
Surely get you the difference? Spain, America, Japan are countries.
Hokkaido, Bega and King Island are areas within countries specifically associated with quality dairy products.
By invoking the name of an area specifically known for famous good quality dairy products when a company has nothing to do with that area, and nothing to do with that country, then that company is a dodgy business, hoping to ride on the reputation of others and attempting to deceive its casual customers.
          So dodgy! So sneaky!

        • -5

@King Tightarse: sure thing Mr California roll.

        • @Letrico:
          Lol

    • To be honest, if the food is good then let them be. It's a bit like seeing a 'Breadtalk' in Malaysia and a 'Breadtop' in Australia.

Reading through the article, someone actually said they really liked the Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart and would like to try the Japanese one to compare.

Hopefully this sort of competition will end up being good for the consumers.

    • I did not know that Hokkaido Cheese Tart is from Malaysia.

  • Expire cheese tarts !!!

    Eewwwwwwww……

  • If only they would bring the Rotiboys to Australia :(

  • For those that managed to buy the 6 tarts for $3 …. I wonder if they will honour it

    • I hope they'll report back :)

    • dam got refunded..

      • Annoying …. but not surprised

  • refunded!
