      Baby needs a new 1080Ti!

    • No external hard drives… I guess they don't know what we use babies for these days.

    • There's a search bar if you click on the deal. Don't need a manual search link unless the deal isn't active yet.

      • +1

That makes it easier. Just assumed they never post it.

Can someone recommend anything that's essential for first time parents

      A baby

      • +1

Haha ok seriously, muslin wraps. Sleep bags.

        • -2

Someone else mentioned before that all infant needs should be hired if possible for example carriers or bassinets

        • +2

@nerd1: I disagree. You end up paying about the same amount of money for stuff that may not suit your needs. Better to go to the baby expo and do the research yourself.

        • @nerd1: new baby car capsule should probably be hired as won't need it that long before need to buy bigger car seat

        • @Gandalf the Thrifty:

          If you use a capsule.

But you do need some way of getting them home, capsule is one option

        • +1

@Gandalf the Thrifty: not if your planning for two

Hiring ends up costing half the price for a new capsule.

      • Lol.

    • As mentioned, muslin wraps are a must. We forgot them at the hospital and the nurses made us (new parents) feel guilty.

You'll need the pram, newborn nappies, size 0000 and size 000 (but mostly size 000 probably unless it's premy), nappy bag..

Bedding really depends on what you plan to do. Cot is highly recommended by maternal health nurses, sids foundation, raising childrens network, etc. but people still choose to co-sleep.

car seat, make sure it's positioned correctly and not in the way of airbags

Lots of bibs, cloths, towels and blankets. Baby gonna puke.

Learn the insides and outs of your nappy bag and how you'll plan to use it i.e. where nappies will go, put at least two plastic bags in there for nappy disposal if you're not changing them in a parents room where you can dispose of them. Keep about 30-50 wipes in there but no more or the bag will get too heavy.

      • Nappy bags, packs of 600 or so from big w, cost nothing and are awesome for nappy disposal.

We had a lot of cot sheets get wet but we tried reusable nappies even she was too small i think

Change mat covers (hand towels are just as good and easier) because there's not alot of bladder control initially

      • Thanks for your advice. Very helpful

        • Our first is now 2 and we've got the second bun in the oven 😊

        • +2

          @Putnum:

          Congratulations! Exciting times

    • Definitely the car seat otherwise you won't be able to get your bubs home!
Second would be nappies… unless you like cleaning up explosives, best to keep them contained.

Most of the other things are important but all can be 'dealt with' if you forget (or can easier send the hubby to go buy).
      For example:
      - wraps - just get a towel or an old tshirt
      - pram - they're so light anyway. Most likely as 1st time parents, you wouldn't be going out very often for very long anyway
      - wet wipes - cup and water. No chemicals either

Definitely go to the baby expos to get an idea but make sure you do your research prior as I've found that expo doesn't always = cheaper compared to these 20% discount and sales.

Oh and if bub isn't due yet but there's a massive store sale (won't work for ebay), pay the extra $5 or something to put EVERYTHING on layby that they allow until maybe the month prior to bubs being due. This way the 'warranty' doesn't start until you pick up the goods.

      • We bought a pram at a show and they were happy to start warranty from the expected due date. But we had to ask. Valco service was very good. The pram itself is 'ok'

    • A couple of dozen 'Big softies' nappies are essential. Great for under the baby when changing nappies or over the shoulder when burping to catch the vomit, general clean up etc etc. You can also use them as nappies, but I wouldn't.

Breast pump might be useful too.

    • Don't forget about mum! Maternity/Sanitary pads, breast (nursing) pads for leaks whether breast feeding or not, bottles and teats if bottle feeding - Chemist Warehouse has an extra 5% off at the moment: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363638
Panadol for mum and baby (those vaccinations come 'round quick), also teether that you can refrigerate for sore gums.
Baby breathing monitor (pad that goes under their cot/bassinet mattress) in my opinion a must. It stops you from checking on them every two seconds as they are so still and silent when asleep, and will alert you if their breathing drops too low (eg. SIDS, choking on sick, blanket over face, etc). Their safety is worth the cost. Of course these may never happen and I hope they never do, but the monitor gives you peace of mind, especially when you are away from them, and helps you sleep better knowing that you have that safeguard :)

Also I don't know where you're situated but at the hospital we were offered free Bounty Bags, both during the pregnancies and after birth. Make sure you take them up on these as not only do you get heaps of little samples such as nappy rash cream and baby wash that you can keep in your nappy/change bag but they also give you a good chance to try different ones out, see which ones you like and if any react with bub's skin

  • maxi guard pro .. $372 delivered .
Anyone know if this is a good deal? Has the price been better?

    • +1

Definitely. I've been keeping my eye on it and been looking for anything close to $380.
Unless it's some pricing error or major 1 off price, I don't think you'll find anything similar!

Time to get one ready for no1 when no2 comes along!

    • IOSFIX compatible?

      • Nope it's not.

Someone correct if I'm wrong but I don't think I found any isofix seats that are from the 6month+ and forward facing? Unless it was just the models I was looking at…

  • I just got this email 9 mins ago and thought I would post it up here… how do people get the code so early?
