Lenovo Yoga 920 2-in-1 (13.9" FHD, i5-8250U, 8GB, 256GB) $1594 @ Harvey Norman (combined post)

Same price as the Zenbook Flip UX461UA but with a few differences in specs. Only i5 and 8GB RAM compared to the Zenbook's i7 and 16GB RAM but the RAM is DDR4, SSD is PCIe and this one has Thunderbolt 3. Includes the stylus (Lenovo Active Pen 2).

  • Only a very minor gripe, but you pay $1600 for only a FHD screen? One could complain about the chosen SSD but it's alright. i7-8550u would be an amazing processor, but its not exactly wallet friendly.

    • +3

I find FHD to be enough for my needs. I'd rather have improved battery life than higher resolution (although I wouldn't go lower than FHD).

      • +1

Yeah definitely FHD is the lowest resolution I'd go. That's true about the battery life, but you can still have a better resolution and adequate battery life. IMO, there isn't a real difference of getting a full work day out of a battery and a full work day and 2 hours the next day - you'll still need to charge it up beforehand.

    • FHD is fine on anything <=14", the font gets really small, so you'd have it at 125% or 150% display.
Yeah, higher resolution is nicer, but only if when you watching video/graphic, most ppl would use laptop otherwise

      • Most people don't use a laptop to watch anything??
Wow didn't realise I was in the minority here!

    • I'm looking for something lower res, like 1366x768 or even 720p. But not using Atom.

      Any suggestions?

      • Get a HP. They use good cores but still have 1366x768 resolution. Btw it's 720p. Know what you are getting into, the screen isn't good on a 15.6 inch laptop with such a low resolution.

  • Sorry for being such a noob, but for either laptop can we open it up and swap the hard drive to like one of those Samsung Evo ssd?

    • +1

Not sure about the Zenbook but the Yoga 920 has an M.2 socketed SSD on the reverse of the motherboard. You can swap it out for another one but you'll have to disassemble the laptop quite a bit (not just open the cover).

Refer to page 47 of Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual to see how to replace it.

      • Thanks for that. If a fair bit of disassembling is needed then I probably should stay clear of it lol.

        • +1

Yeah the placement is a bit annoying. I know the Yoga 720 has an M.2 SSD accessible from just opening the cover if you're looking for something similar.

  • RAM is DDR3

    That's clearly a typo

    • Actually plausible considering the cpu seems to take ddr3 according to the intel page.

Altho, i really dont see how ddr3 or the sata3 could be a possible con. You shouldnt be able to see any real world differences. What I'm concerned about is the lack of usb3 but thats minor.

Considering the weight and the processor, I'd get the asus.

Edit: just checked the description on the site… it states it has a usb c gen 1…

      • Surely ddr3 isn't compatible with the latest chips, unless laptops are completely different to desktop architecture… Ddr3 hasn't been compatible for many years now.

  • The yoga 710 from graysonline was a better bargain deal.

  • Is this better?

Holding out for a Ryzen ultrabook or 2in1 for some graphical oompf in a tiny package.
