Update 17/12: Deal is over. VF has run out of stock. Congrats and Merry Christmas to those who scored! :)

<del>MOD: According to users on pg5, the deal has been reinstated.</del>

<del>Update: Deal is finished. Repayment is now back to $30. :( Good luck to those who have ordered, though!</del>

OK, per request from the other HTC Legend thread…

If you’re a member of one of the motoring clubs (NRMA, RACV, etc), you
might want to check out Vodafone. They currently have the HTC Legend for $0 repayment on their 12-month $29 cap.

Navigate to the link below:

http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-htc-legend.aspx?company…

Then select '12 month'.

By my calculation, your min cost over 12 months should be (after 10% discount and 3 months free access):

$29 * 10% off * 9 months = $234.9

(plus, possibly, $84 moneybackco cashback for those who managed)

Which is outstanding value for a pocketable Android 2.2 phone with such strong specs. And it comes with a cap with 200mb data!

Be warned, though, that Voda’s customer service (or the lack of it, really) is shocking! Have a look at discussions on whirlpool!

  • When I asked Vodafone on Thursday why am I owing anything at all when my last month's usage was below $180 I too was told that it is monthly fee. Then I insisted that I am on a 12-month $29 plan with first three months free and 10% off and hence my monthly fee of $26.10 should start only from 4th month onwards. The nice and helpful girl, after talking to her supervisor, said that they will look into it as soon as the bill appears on my account. Yesterday the girl called to apologitically say that although the bill has appeared it is still inaccessible (it did not open when I too tried) and she will do the needful as soon as possible and call me again to confirm. Today I found that the new bill has disappeared from my account but the amount owing has remained unchanged.

My data entitlement has come down from 300MB last month to 150MB this month. Is it the same for anyone else here?

  • Just after a bit of technical assistance please. I can't open messages because it says phone storage is full, but when i try to delete some file i put them in to the recycling bin but they don't delete. If anyone could help i would appreciate it, oh and please dumb down your answer for me because i am technically illiterate, which is the reason I am having problems in the first place! thanks

  • Just received my first bill! And it's at $92.20. yay…

Everything looked up to scratch (i.e. I had the 10% discount and I wasn't expecting the free months just yet since most were saying that it applies after the third month), except that I was charged $20 for the Mobile Payment Plan. It should have been $0.

So I gave voda a call today, and I explained my situation and the plan I signed up for (with all the added discounts etc) to the first rep (non-local). He had to check with his supervisor. He came back after a while and confirmed that charging $20 was a mistake and will be rectified, however he was unsure about me receiving 3 months free and a 10% discount on top of that. To them it didn't seem possible for two extra discounts to be bundled into the one plan. I told them I had confirmation emails from voda detailing my plan and associated costs.

So he sent me to a sales rep in order to sort this out. This rep pretty much asked me for my ESW number and pin and confirmed everything I said I had in the plan (why the first guy couldnt just do this I dont know). I could tell he was a local rep and things seemed so much more quicker. He was happy to comply with all the details of the plan but I had to be sent to the billing department since he didnt have access to the billing section of the system.

So I'm on my third rep now after many long waits through John Mayer, and again I explained my situation. Despite the sales rep putting notes on my account confirming my plan details, this rep (non-local) still sounded skeptical and needed to confirm with another source that my plan was fine and dandy.

In the end after all the transferring of calls and long waits with 'Your body is a Wonderland', he summarises that I now get my first 3 months free (sweet!) with the remaining 9 months receiving a 10% discount ($26.10/month min) and that I pay $0 mobile repayment.

All this should have been sorted the moment I received my first few confirmation emails, not when I get my first bill! but in a way, these shenanigans weren't a surprise considering what others have gone through (http://www.vodafail.com/).

So in the end I only get charged $15 from my last billing cycle since I went over the $180 credit. Cool. Beans.

some explanation i just got from voda, as below:

first, amount we have to pay with 10% discount is actualy $26.36 not 26.10. it has to do with the gst thing im not fuss too much about it.
second, voda billing system is, we need to pay a month in advance.

in regards of my $11.51 on my first bill, i can see the detail and just spoke with call centre. basically, 11.51$ is a prorata monthly fee on my account since i joined on around middle on my montly period. (so 12days/30days * $29 = $11.51, something like that, again im not fuss about couple bucks)

the good thing, on my bill i can see they have charged monthly fee in advance of $26.36, THEN credited back same amount for the "3 months free promo"

ofcourse, i confirmed the other details, like 12months contract with 10%off every month, and will i get another 2x credit of $26.36, and they said yes.

all seems good i guess, for my case. voda not too fail ~ :)

  • Same here.. I just clarify my bills, and the will waive the first 2 months bill..and no bill for the 3rd.

I think they are okay company….

  • Just got off the phone apparently 4,5,6 months for free.

  • For those of you who have been given months 1,2,3 free… what exactly does it show up as on your bill?

Mine is showing up as "Subscription level $ discount on Recurring", but just interested in what others is showing as, as I suspect Vodafone may have done something funny with my account.

  • i think (well this is just my 1st bill) i got 1,2,3 free.
on my bill, i got charged 26.36 for the next month, but then i got 26.36CR under “Subscription level $ discount on Recurring”,
also asked the guy, how about next month assuming i dont go over my limit, he said : then you wont need to pay anything.

Vodafone called me again today to inform that a credit is being applied to my accout for the wrong monthly fee. However, I was told that for the free 3-months period I will still have to pay some applicable GST (10%) but they have waived it this time as I was "unaware?" or whatever. Logically a $0 bill should have a $0 GST but anyway my accout now displays "$0.00 owing".

I must now give credit where it is due. I have really been lucky to get connected to a Vodafone CSR every time within a minute of calling, who provided excellent service even by going to the extent of keeping me updated till the matter was resolved. The web developers are probably the main culprits letting Vodafone down by mucking up with the online services.

  • Ok guys just wondering for those of u who care to check the online my vodafone portal, under Plan Info, do you see a 24 or 12 month contract?

I spent more than 1 hour on the phone last friday trying to get them to change the plan to 12 month. One of the support people actually confirmed that his manager is going to do it within 24 hours. I checked again today and everything still the same. Even worst I now receive a bill for the first 2 months which I suppose to get free under the term and condition of the contract. Sounds like something very wrong at Vodafone

    • Plan Info reads as Cap $29 12Mth but my invoice has the following section:
      Part Monthly Plans & Services
      Cap $29 12Mth $26.36
      Included Data $0.00
      Cap $29 24Mth $26.36
Subscription level $ discount on Recurring Charges $0.00

Does anyone have similar entries in their invoice and any ideas why there is a charge against Cap $29 24Mth? I just have one HTC Legend.

Just been thru this with Vodafone. Your monthly charge is correct. However, you need to request your three free months. This won't be the first part month (too complicated for them) just the following three months if you ring and ask for it.

As for the $26.36 this is VF accounting trick to give you the $26.10 per month. It is a back calculation that ends with you actually paying $26.10 per month. In your bill the $26.36 is your pre GST charge. The 10% discount is applied (check your bill) then the 10% GST is added to leave you paying $26.10. Yes this is correct, a 10% discount followed by a 10% charge leaves you with a different figure (namely $26.10).

        Hope this makes sense.

Addtition: My bill shows 12 months (not 24 months) everywhere. And, a WARNING; the VF rep clarified that the 10% discount only applies for the life (their word for term) of your contract. For me that's 12 months.

        • Thanks for your prompt response rifter.

Vodafone's logic of giving 2nd, 3rd and 4th full months free rather than 1st part month to 4th part month does make sense. That is what I actually thought they might be doing when I looked at my bill late yesterday. If only I had access to my bill before contacting them I would have happily paid for the first part month and only enquired about the wrong 24Mth entry. The second month charges were already credited back to me in the bill as also the wrongly charged 24Mth part month. The CSR I spoke to also could not access my bill and simply thought it fit to follow my advice. Now that I have compelled them to give me first part month free I may have to contact them again to get the 4th part month free, consistent with the date of activation. I will also have to ask them to remove the 24Mth entry from my future bills.

        • I just called them again. The rep has confirmed that he will remove the 24 month soon. I am not sure about their definition of soon but I hope that is one or two days. This is a little bit disappointing as the rep I spoke to last Fri confirmed that it would be done in 24 hours.

Also he told me that the free month things only applied on the 4, 5 and 6 month so I gotta wait.

        • As such it should not matter which three full months one gets free but knowing the way Vodafone works one would like to get the three months free at the earliest to avoid unnecessary anxiety.

  • I got the first bill for 49 dollars ( one month advance 26.10 + 24 dollars for less than a month)
I called vodafone. It took 30 minutes to get through and they told me, I have to pay this bill and next 3 months is free. I took the name and no. of the rep and hope everything will go likewise.
So finally, I think the phone will be round 235 +- few dollars.

    Installed Froyo…..

    Really happy :)

    • Yes, that is probably the best way to go rather than causing unnecessary complications.

I too was able to update to 2.2 earlier without any hitch.

    • according to my bill, you should only pay for 24$ (using less than a month)
you should get credit of 26.10 to waive the one month advance, and this will happen 3x.

  • rifter’s understanding of the billing system mentioned above is perfect. The bill shows all pre-GST charges and only at the end adds GST in the Total amount. Therefore, when 10% GST is added to the pre-GST plan charge of $26.36 shown in our bills it becomes $29.00 ($26.361.1=$29.00). However, when 10% discount is applied to the pre-GST plan charge of $26.36 the monthly fee reduces to $23.72 ($26.360.9=$23.72). By adding 10% GST to our monthly pre-GST discounted fee of $23.72 we arrive at the magic figure of $26.10 that we are all aware of ($23.72*1.1=$26.10). Therefore, Vodafone is charging exactly the same amount as we all thought earlier.

In other words, because the pre-GST plan fee of $26.36 is being reduced by 10% discount (i.e., by $2.636) and then the resulting amount of $23.72 is being increased by 10% GST (i.e., by $2.372) we obviously end up paying the reduced monthly fee of $26.10. It is not really a trick but the correct procedure.

    • And, just be aware on the 13th month your $26.10/month will return to $29/month. It's in you Terms and Conditions.

      • The present plan is only for 12 months. So, are you saying that it will automatically continue further @$29/month unless terminated at the end of 12 months?

  • Same with Whirlpoolians

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1598336&p…

If only Vodafone have the deal spell clearly in their T&C - eg. free access for 4th,5th and 5th month - then it would save us the time and hassle to ring up support.

    • i but i thought they write it clearly "the first 3 months" ???

      • At the time of my account activation I was clearly told that the first three months will be free and that is why I insisted and got my first bill reduced to $0.00. However, if they had mentioned in the deal as to which three months will be free it would have been helpful to both customers and Vodafone staff.
