      • Ah I've had to switch the page to desktop mode.

Coming from Oneplus 3, can anyone comment on the Android OS on this Nokia? Stock Android experience? This has 4GB RAM with a Snapdragon 835 so everythinng should look good and run smoothly?

    • +1

from what ive seen this is running a pretty low-skinned, close to stock version of android. i think it would be more than fine especially with the top line 835 processor and more than enough ram. serious deal at under $500.

      • I am looking to get this for my dad, in one and a half month. Do you reckon I should wait it out, seeing this price range has been showing up in the past month?

        • +3

the prices of these phones will only ever go in one direction (down). i say wait. especially as after MWC there will be a host of new flagships that will take even more of the shine off of these.

        • @xyron: Agreed. Thanks for your insight.

  • nokia are a bit nowhere, not at the level of the big boys, yet the price is getting up

Is it really any better than a Chinese up/mid entry level phone?

    Maybe at $250

    • Come on when this came out it was $700+. This is certainly a deal. Not sure what you mean by "big boys" but the Nokia 8's specs match that of Samsung S8.

      • +1

S8 has an OLED screen and thin bezels (new trend that apparently carries a premium) and expandable memory (not sure if this one has it — doesn't say).

It's an alright deal for what you're getting but was hoping for below $400.

        • +2

I hope it'd go under $400 next month too lol

        • This has expandable memory (or second SIM). The screen isn't OLED, but is pretty good. Not saying the S8 isn't better, but I think this is a good enough phone to be considered good value for $300 (i.e. ~40%) less than you can get an S8 - especially for those who prefer purer Android.

        • @grizzle: You can get S8 and S8+ cheaper than that (not right now, but when they get posted here). I've seen Note 8 for under $900 (grey of course, but if this Nokia is dual sim, it's probably grey too).

As someone who doesn't like pure android because it's missing a lot of features of custom launchers, I'd pay up for an S8 any day, but each person is different and it's for them. No I wouldn't pay 775 for the S8, but I've seen it here cheaper than that.

If I'm not getting an OLED phone, I'd rather get a Chinese brand for cheaper than this.

        • +1

@lostn: Fair enough, to each their own. At this price, I'd say the Chinese brands are more natural competition than an S8, which is still significantly more expensive (if not as much as I said above).

Maybe it'll drop below $400 in the next couple of months. It's already dropped significantly since release. Even at this price I think it comes down to personal preference rather than an obvious better or worse.

8200's assertion that this is a $250 phone is a little ridiculous though.

        • @grizzle:

If Lenovo made it and upgraded their ZUK line to 835, it could be done. But they're an outlier. Also I don't like Lenovo's launchers.

$400 is a fair price for it. $500 would be fair if it was AU stock. If Samsung or LG took the same phone as Nokia 8 and rebadged it it would fetch a higher price than Nokia can get for it due to them falling into irrelevance as a brand.

        • @lostn:

Didn't Lenovo got rid of the Zuk brand and now only concerntrating on the Moto brand? Zuk Z2 was great and still a great phone.

Please take a look at this and make sure this model TA1052 supports b28

    449 with the PRONTO code

    • Thanks .. updated the post :)

  • Can anyone who has this model confirm it has B28? Cheers

    • +1

      Yes it does.

  • It's been a month and price hasn't really changed, at $460 delivered through ebay with PRINT code, is it worth the buy? Anything comparable in specs around the $450 price? After a phone in the next week.

      Motorola Moto Z, 5.5"
$443.19 after discount code "PHLUFFY" (just realised Harvey Norman is still selling it for $647 lol, such rip-off price)
White & Gold colour: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162708720802 (AU stock, sold by Allphones AU)

While it is almost ~1.5 years old, its spec is still very capable and respectable. Comparison against Nokia 8 and LG G6 (which used a higher clocked variant of 820): https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8094&idPhone2…
It is still being supported, and its Oreo update has started to be rolling out.
