That won't ship here which is the same for most of the cheap Casio's on Amazon.

Also G-Shocks have a much higher build quality with mineral lens & 200 metres water resistance.

    • +1

You can buy these from local sellers for $16 on ebay

I don't understand the love for the g shock. I find it looks ugly. Am I the only one??

I like the effort in the post though.

    • +3

Ugly is subjective. But it's beauty and attraction also lies in it's form and function and even for a cheapish watch, it's heritage. Most of the designs are very out there and over the top, but you can find some toned down styles and less bulky versions.

After I purchased my first G-Shock, I really understood why ppl loved them and I was also very impressed. They are very lightweight that you don't even notice you're wearing it, (almost) unbreakable, battery can last up to 10 years and the value for durability and quality is unbeatable. That's before you go into all the other hundreds of features and functions.

Been longing for the DW-5600 so I think I will jump on this deal. Thanks OP.

Hey thanks for this PJC - I was looking for a daily tough watch.

I've got a question to watch experts that may know:

    1. When they say 'This model offers accuracy of plus or minus 15 seconds per month', does it mean that the watch, after say, 12 months, becomes off by around two minutes or something?

    2. When they say 'The calendar is pre programmed until the year 2039', does it mean the watch calendar feature becomes useless after that date? Can you set it again?

    Thanks.

  • +1
    1. Yes, maybe 3 minutes a year. Before the days of quartz, 2 minutes a day was quite acceptable.
    2. I imagine you would need to make adjustments for February etc. as with most non-digital watches that lack a perpetual calendar.
  • is a Sold out appropriate now!

  • 23 - The price is US$83.99, not US$64.99

    • That is definitely a price increase since I posted. Thanks for telling me.

  • I have had a G-shock watch. Sure, it's shockproof and all, but the strap, which includes the plastic casing around the actual watch, is not very life-proof. After about 7 years of normal use (not doing anything rough to it at all), it became brittle and started completely falling apart. By that time (after merely 7 years), it was already near impossible to get a replacement part. There were 2 replacements left in the whole of Australia (one in the wrong colour), and replacement cost were around $90 (11 years ago)!

No point having a shock-proof watch if the tooth of time will kill it before any shock does. Also, keep in mind that replacing the battery in one of the waterproof ones can set you back $60 or more, because the seals have to be changed and it has to be pressure tested.

I'm using Citizen Eco Drive now (titanium). 10 years later it is looking way better than my high-end G-shock did after 5, and don't have to bother with expensive battery replacements.

Takeaway: plastic body G-shocks aren't built to last, are not cheap to fix, and after a few years you may not be able to get the parts you need.

    • Why so much drama? Replacement bands and bezel are easy to get and cheap from eBay or tiktox.

      https://www.tiktox.com/casio-straps-and-spares/5600-g-shock-…

      • They weren't 10 years ago. And I don't call that cheap.
Will the right parts still be available by the time you need them?

The fact that my supposedly-indestructible watch fell apart within years, with parts almost unable to be obtained through the proper channels (Casio Australia), made it clear to me that Casio does not design these things for long-term use.

The above watch was from 18 years ago. Plus fifteen years if you counted it from the get go.

It's rather a stretch to call "Casio does not design these things for long-term use" just because you couldn't get parts, surely?

        • @doorknob:

It's rather a stretch to call "Casio does not design these things for long-term use" just because you couldn't get parts, surely?

Actually, that's not a stretch at all. This is exactly what an inability to get parts means: no intention to provide support on the long term; only interested in selling.

        • -1

          @Make it so:

Well, that's your opinion. I certainly disagree, since others who had the same problem eight years before you, could get access to parts which were made and distributed openly by CASIO for those outside warranty. Which your watch certainly was.

Perhaps you need to manage your expectations a little, in order to avoid making big exaggerations..

I just bought this one from Kogan:

    Casio G-Shock X-Large Ana-Digital Watch - Black

For $78 which I was pretty happy with

    $129 website price
+$9 purchase 2 Kogan vouchers from eBay ($50 off min spend $120)
    -$10 referral (or new account)
    -$20 Kogan voucher from eBay
    -$30 Kogan Voucher from eBay

    total $78

    • Good move. I didn't list that Kogan offer here because without vouchers it wasn't cheap enough so No. 24 made more sense.

      • +1

I was using the vouchers for a mobile recharge, unitl I saw your post it didnt click in my mind to use them for a watch too

thanks for your post - quality information with a lot of good prices

        • You're welcome.

Just bought the G-Shock DW5600E-1V. First time G-Shock purchase too! I'll comment back when this baby arrives. Thanks PJC :)

    • +1

      Well done.

    • +3

Here is a good review of that watch on Watchuseek -
The Humble DW5600E - The watch I was all wrong about.
Some owners have managed to get around 10 years use out of the original battery by rarely using the EL backlight.
This guy really likes them, haha.

      • +2

Got it last night and wore it to work all today. Bloody incredible fit and does its job.

And! I didn't know there were DW series enthusiasts in the office - but by lunch at least 3 people have had a lengthy convo!

Thanks both of you once again

        • +1

I'm glad you are pleased with it.

  • +1

No. 8 is now marginally cheaper (thanks to Member WatchNerd).

    • +1

I can't find a lower price for that specific model. Starbuy had them for $199 but sold out.

  • +1

Can someone recommend one for me? Something I can wear when going running.

    • +1

No. 22 looks easy to read your lap time while running.

    • +1

And this one is excellent value for money.

6-7 years ago i ordered a watch from NY watchstore(eBay store which is the same as the website one). It was a Citizen in the $250 range. The watch i received was clearly not new, it had scratches and everything was missing in the box. I contacted the store and they only offered to give me a partial refund as the watch was slightly damaged according to them. I raised a dispute with eBay and what eBay did in my opinion is nothing different than extortion. They made me to pay for return insured shipping which cost me $70 and i was told if i do not leave the seller positive feedback i will not get a refund when the watch arrived back. If you read the feedback these guys have, I am not the only one with this kind of experience with the seller. I highly recommend you do not purchase anything from these criminals, who apparently have an arrangement with eBay to back them up when things get heated.

    • I'm sorry you had that experience. In retrospect, do you wish you had contacted PayPal instead?

      • +1

I believe paypal are oriented more towards the rights of the customer but it's the same company so not really sure if it'll make a big difference.
