  • Needs DW9052 in the title.

If anyone is on the fence, these look way better in real life

    • +1

Yeah most do. They are pretty big, I recommend the DW6900 but they are silly prices now.

be warned, this 9052 gshock has poor quality, just breaks after 8 years on my wrist. my 5600E is still strong.

    • +1

      8 years seems pretty good?

    • Mine stsill going strong. It's been at least 8 years (more like 12) since I bought this from OzB. Was $30 back then, think it was some kind of stacked catch of the day deal.

    • How is it broken? Can get replacement bands btw, US$3 from AliExpress. She's treated you well for 8y!

      5600 is excellent though.

  • OzB Team, any recommendations for the best G shock with activity tracking?

    • +1

GBD300 but honestly wouldn't bother. Save yourself some grief and get a Fitbit charge 5/6, or Garmin etc.

      • Good to know. I was looking at the Garmin Instinct Solars. Gave a Samsung G4 a go (got it as a gift), but the battery life is ridiculously bad.

        • Garmin would be the go, I recommended a forerunner 945 to a family member a while ago for half price ($499 rebel) and it's great. Could be some deals around or the other ones depends how serious you need but battery isn't an issue.

The Fitbit I use is just for steps, hr, cals, sleep but wear on right hand pretty minimal and can still wear real watches.

  • I have a G-Shock very similar to this (might even be this same one) but very recently the battery failed and I'm wondering if anyone has ever had to replace a battery in one of these and how much it might cost?

I'm also wondering if it will still be water resistant after this?

I assume it is similar mechanism to my G-7900-1DR, died after 8 or 9 years.. This is a real bad boy..

If you have small screwdriver to open the back casing and pincer, it is quite simple to replace battery. Just beware of the round protective rubber. Put it properly and it is still waterproof.

I recommend doing it for a small diy project..

Thankyou for your reply! I had no idea this would be doable for myself. I was thinking I would take it to a watch repairer and they would have to do it.

I remember years ago when I asked about a different watch needing new battery, the guy said he can just replace the battery for pretty cheap (I think it was probably less than $20 at the time) or he could charge me more, something like over $50, in order to do a proper pressure test and make sure it still operated at the same original manufactures spec.

But if it's just the right tool and realigning the rubber seal, then maybe I could manage. I have a set of super small screw driver bits and I think a tweezers set somewhere too.

How do I make sure I'm getting the right battery? And is there a place you recommend, perhaps where you got your?

        Thanks again πŸ‘

Get your gshock model and google its battery. Mine is cr2025, i think.. Available from Woolies or bunnings for few bucks.
          Have a try

          • @Lakon: Thankyou πŸ‘Turns out mine is the G-7900 (so very similar to yours) and the battery is also the same. I looked on eBay and I can get one sent to me for only $1.00 !

But I'm wondering if there is a difference in brands of batteries, like is sometimes the case with AA's etc, were some will last longer but cost a bit more, or would they all be about the same? Seems unlikely to me for a battery like this, but I just thought I'd ask, because it could be better in the long run.

Also found this excellent YouTube tutorial for changing the battery on my watch πŸ˜ƒ

Also get a silicon lube for the caseback gasket. It's cheap insurance that you will retain a good watertight seal.

@Astronaut Joe: Good advice. I've been meaning to get one of those, but will wait until I need a battery change. AJS in Brisbane has all that stuff (handy for locals).

Always worthwhile doing a quick YouTube as well if it's your first time.

Thanks, found a really good one (link above) that has given me a lot of confidence to do it myself πŸ‘

Amazing what help is available online these days!

          • @Astronaut Joe: Thankyou very much for the link! Will definitely get some for this jobπŸ‘ I wasn't sure what I was looking at, but then, in the video I posted just above, the guy shows how to use it πŸ˜…

            Cheers πŸ»πŸ•

  • One of the longest running g shock models that hasn't changed at all.

I hope they're not discontinuing it.

  • Is this a good buy as I notice it’s similar prices elsewhere whats it normally sell for? Is it chunky as looking for something chunky

    • Why don't you search Ozbargain for DW9052 and have a look. They are pretty cheap watches but like everything we getting slugged with inflation. Just depends when you want it but check the last few deals to see if it's a good price or not.
