Hey Broden, they sold out! Why?:)

    • +13

No they haven't. And don't call me broden, I will get banned.

  • The reviews aren't good for the site: https://au.trustpilot.com/review/joybuy.com.

Has anyone bought anything from this site?

    • Yikes.

    • +3

JoyBuy is basically JD, the competitor of Taobao. That's why the reviews are meh, if you are comfortable buying from Gearbest, Taobao etc, then consider this similar. But what I am worried about is that Kogan and Vaya say their stock is from HK warehouse, this might be pure China stock which had a ROM flash.

      • +2

is there different hardware? Or does the mainland stock come with better malware?

      • +1

This is 100% Chinese stock and it has 100% not been flashed with the International version. It will come with Hydrogen OS and not Oxygen OS…well according to Q&A at the bottom of the page anyway:

"ADear customer,we are sorry that this is the original Chinese version, and the original box will not be opened before sending, so you need to put the firmware by itself. We hope for your understanding."

This one might be the international version? https://www.joybuy.com/650694785.html Much more expensive.

        • Pardon my ignorance but what does that mean? Is it possible to flash it ourselves?

        • +1

@Robeasto: According to the Internet you can yes. Supposedly you can just download OxygenOS and install it over the top of HydrogenOS. OxygenOS being the International version with all the normal Google apps. HydrogenOS being the Chinese custom OS which does not have things like the Google play store.

        • +1

@Robeasto: Yep I did it in OP2 myself a couple of years back

Does this Phablet have a notification led?

    • +1

      What's a led?

      • +3

it's a non slippery sled….Bob has one in the Jamacian tobogganing team

    • +4

It has tho its not even half as good as the one Samsung phones have. You will only notice the light if you look directly at the LED light

    • +2

Yep, customisable colour per app too

  • It's definitely a good price considering the rrp is rmb2999/aud609 in China and hasn't changed since the release day.
But there was an rumor saying the one plus 6 is coming soon?

  • Fantastic phone

  • Is this that much better than the preceding non-T 5? The Samsung Galaxy A5 is, according to a few reputable comparisons, better than the OPO 5, cheaper and comes with statutory guarantees (sold by AU vendors).

    • +2

The 5 and 5T are flagship level phones, the A5 is a mid-tier phone. 5T has much more RAM, better processor, more up to date software, etc. Whether all those things are necessary to you is another question, but this is a more capable device than the A5.

  • Couldn't wait 20-30 days so i bought the 128GB model off Vaya for $836.10 (After 10% discount) to get it before going overseas - claiming back tax through the TRS so it's not too bad

    • +7

Sorry but no TRS with VAYA.

    • Isn't that a grey import?

    • +1

      no TRS with VAYA lol

      • +1

836? the deal from vaya last month was 700

  • Newbie question, does it matter that this phone has the Chinese Rom rather than the Global Rom? In terms of hardware specs I didn't find any difference between the global and Chinese version.

  • +1

You can download the official or beta build and flash the phone through recovery, no root required, as long as it's a official oneplus rom, it's a really simple procedure, like 2 minutes Max

    • Thanks @Retchey

    • So I shouldn't have any problem buying this phone and doing this with the Oxygen OS available from the Oneplus website?
Really looking to buy one of these phones and just need to choose a vendor. Shame it's hard to get Aus warranty

  • Why is this phone so cheap now? Dropping like bricks?

  • 3.06am here - completing the captcha for the coupon in the provided link doesn't work, I just get the error 'Todays event has already ended.' someone pls help asap
