    What’s her expiry date?

    • +13

      Long past, IMHO.
      But still she hangs on.

      • +2

        Well played

      • Must be Best Before 。。。。

      • +1

You'd hang on too if the loony price was waiting to take the reigns.

        • +2

Or loony prince even. Every day her highness arises and says to herself, “must not die today, or at least before the PoW, to preserve the monarchy!”

The googly eyes would work best with a photo of Prince Philip.

        • I was on the fence (and on the can) when I saw this but also had to sign in and upvote when I saw the googlyeyes. Genius!

Unfortunately the page linked by OP has expired:

Please note: The information provided on this page is in effect up to and including 31 December 2017. For work expense information commencing 1 January 2018, please see the Guidance section of this website.

I have located the new web page that deals with the distribution of flags and portraits which states the following:

For the conduct of your parliamentary business, and subject to the limit of your office budget, you may purchase for presentation to constituents or organisations, documents related to nationhood approved by the Special Minister of State. ‘Documents’ may be written, printed or electronic.

In relation to what constitutes 'presentation'

‘Presentation’ - it is expected that there will be an element of formality in the act and/or ceremony attached to the manner in which large flags are presented and that the presentation is made directly by you to the recipient.

So, the upside is that while it would seem that constituents are entitled to flags or portraits of the Queen from their local MP, you would have to convince the MP that you deserve to be presented with one, by the MP personally, at some sort of ceremony.

FYI, the new information which I have referred to can be found here: https://maps.finance.gov.au/Guidance/Office%20Budget/Nationh…

Lol imagine if we got 2-300000 people to request it from 1 mp. They would cry at the printing costs…

  • +7

    and Pippa?

  • I don't know why someone would want a portrait but rock on!

  • I'd like to know if anyone has actually done this and can provide proof

    • +6

did you even read the OP?

      • Lol didn't realise it was a link the first time

  • +1

    I wouldn’t mind getting a laminated early portrait :/

  • +7

What's it printed on? Is it soft and absorbent?

    • +2

      3 ply

  • Why tho

  • +4

    free? what a ripoff

  • How much is it worth on Ebay if I get her to sign it?

    • +1

How much is it worth on Ebay if I get her to sign it?

Royal family never sign anything that are asked to so it would be labelled a fake.

      • Queen Liz signed the constitutional papers when the new parliament house opened. You can see it on wiki.

        • +2

          Fakes, obviously

        • I don't trust anything nowadays apart from official tweets or facebook posts tbh

Comprehension issues? The royal family will never sign anything they are asked to, it's pretty clear that I was talking about the public asking them to sign things because that is the question I was responding to.

        • +2

@Maverick-au: It's pretty clear they already knew that…..

        • @Maverick-au:

          MA: Comprehension issues?

99: You better check what you wrote…

99: Except you never said that and the original post never said that either. None of the two entries mention public or anything remotely like that.

What you have just said is COMPLETELY WRONG. Her position is all about giving the royal signature to sign bills from parliament into law. Thats HER JOB.

        • @ninetyNineCents:

The original comment is about a person asking a member of the royal family to sign an item to increase it's value and I responded and said they won't do that so it would be a fake if it was listed on eBay. Pretty clear unless you want to be obtuse.

  • Thanks.

I'll hang this up alongside my Saddam Hussein and my bashar al Assad

    • +3

You might have to shift Osama just a little to fit Her Royal Highness in…

    • +1

To label the Queen alongside those criminals is a disagree. Australia doesnt execute people on a regular basis, so its silly to say that her governments including Australia have. You are disgracing the crown and your own country.

      • Fergie's toe sucking, Harry's naked romps, and Diana and Charles' indiscretions hardly put The Crown in a good light

        • +6

Having sex and fetishes vs. the responsiblity for thousands of deaths. Everybody has sex it shouldn't be a moral panic anymore

        • +1

H: Fergie's toe sucking, Harry's naked romps, and Diana and Charles' indiscretions hardly put The Crown in a good light

99: Perhaps you might find that all a bit stupid, but theres a big difference between toe sucking and being a murdering dictator.

Fergie, Harry, Diana may be royal but they do not wear the crown. Only one person does that.

  • Will the material be biodegradable or no?

  • +4

Any pics of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge?

    • Bald headed pic of Willy for you

      • +2

        Who 'se?

  • D0 they hand out flags to bogans?

    • Only if they can prove they own a ute.

      • And claim at least one benefit from Centrelink.

  • +2

Enough photos of honkies on my walls. Thanks anyway.

  • A portrait from this year would be good.

  • Any deals for Elizabeth the First portraits?

  • -1

can anyone give examples of what positive things she has done for the world, other than being born

    • Can't say I would fancy being in that position, but I really dislike the idea that someone gets born into the role of being 'the boss of me'.

Ok, it's largely a ceremonial role, but there is some real power behind it, just look at 1975. The same thing may have happened if we were a republic, but at least it would have been at the behest of someone voted in.

      • The Queen isn't the boss of you, the government are. The double-dissolution only occurred at the urging of Fraser, they don't ever go against parliament's decisions.

        • +2

Government is the boss of me. Governor General is the boss of the government. Queen is the boss of GG.

1975 double dissolution - however it was thought of, urged, decided, was done by Queens representative.

Hey, she’s no Idi Amin or Lil Kim, but she wasn’t elected - that’s what I don’t like.

        • +1

          @wfdTamar:

Actually… I'd say we're the boss of the government. The GG is only there to help it run smoothly.

        • +1

          @wfdTamar:
Exactly, no one in the the 21st century should be entitled to the top job in the land just by birth right, this is too medieval for me, sorry.

        • Mind you, the alternative (elected) usually means someone buys, or connives in some other devious way, their way into the top jobs (not looking at you Malc).

    • +3

She is the only female royal to join WW2, she supports reducing the gender gap, including that of ascending to the throne, she performs the duty of a Governor-General and has done so for 63 years.

She is supportive of decolonisation and republicanism and oversaw to transition from imperialism to the Commonwealth. While she cannot express political opinion she expressed she did not agree with Tony Blair's policies (Iraq War).

Queen Elizabeth II seems to be a fair and respectful monarch. All the stuff she does isn't that noticeable but she still works to this day.

      • +4

Tony Abbott is that you? Perfect politicians response. Answer the original question. What has she actually done? Not what she supports. I support green house gas emission reductions, but I drive to work everyday in a V8…

        • She has approved and supported the breaking away of colonies, supported the reduction of the gender gap by providing resource and policy infrastructure. Despite being the head of state (with all that supreme theorectical power), the Queen is severely limited - which would be the same if we had a president. Her duties aren't like that of a PM, who can promise to enact things and bring in policies, hers is more like a bureaucracy's - she has a job to fill. eg. Meeting other foreign counterparts, approving the representative government's policies and promoting peaceful relation/diplomacy.

I think it's a good tradeoff, born into the highest title, yet having limited (practical) power to do anything that will affect citizens. The Queen is just a symbol and there to look good, in terms of being the head-of-state, I think she reflects a rather positive and respectable image of Britain/Commonwealth compared to other heads-of-states…

        • I'd rather have a zildjian or paiste.

  • +2

Any chance of photos of the Royal dogs?

  • The republicans are marching en masse.

  • Where is the deal for the googly eyes, or does it comes with this freebie?

  • Where do I go to request to MP?

  • Would be great for a dartboard hahahaha.

  • What are the flags like

  • +2

    We made the news.
