    • Read the post again and tell us where did it indicate it was ANZ product?

      • +2

The 75k might have given the idea lol

  • +6

I remember qantas/citi have pretty stringent conditions for the signup.

    • +1

Do you think if you have other Citi backed cards (Virgin, Citi Signature) you're less likely to be approved for a third?

    • Yeah it was pretty annoying. They call up for additional stuff even you supply it and they also need you to contact your employer payroll so that they can call them to confirm your employment status.

    • Yeah I got conditionally approved and then for some reason got the rejection letter a couple of days after. I was also previously with Citibank on their Signature card, so that doesn't help.

      • I got approved for this card while still holding Citi Signature - although I did reduce the limit of my Citi Signature to 15k before applying, not sure if that helps.

  • +2

Minimum income for a platinum card is 35k these days?

    • +3

Does it really matter these days?

  • -5

Considering the regular annual fee cost 1 point per dollar seems kinda sucky.

  • +3

Congrat's on your first post !!!

  • +1

The application is stuck on the Address page for me. Keeps buffering and eventually:

    Gateway Timeout
The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server.

  • +1

    Painful sign up process.

  • Thanks. I'll be applying for this.

  • +2

Cheap way to earn enough points to get Qantas club membership renewal! $149 cars fee rather than $400 lounge fee…

    • +5

Poor use of points. Better to sell the 75k QFF points for $750, spend $400 of it on lounge renewal and have $350 cash left over

  • Anybody know if this works with ATO spend?

    • Can earn with ATO but they sting you a CC fee…

      • Easily worth it for the sign up points surely though?

        • Depends on the size of your debt. Do the math on 1c per point vs what the fees are.

        • Ah ok. I was thinking of getting this and using it to pay rent via DEFT for 2 months..

        • @Xizor: assuming just to get the points otherwise you wouldnt normally pay rent with CC? maybe ill do this too..

        • @Xizor: How do you pay rent with a credit card???

        • @mangostickyrice: Yeah. Real estate of the joint im at only accept payment via Macquarie DEFT, i have it set to withdraw from my bank account at the moment but it also accepts VISA & Mastercard with a 1.5% fee im pretty sure. Not good for points normally but to get 75k ff points i think its worth it. Mind you i've not actually done it before!!

        • @bemybubble:

Points are worth 1cent per point nowadays??

        • +1
      • +1

This is incorrect, paying directly to the ATO with this card will net 0 points. However it does contribute towards you spend for the sign-up bonus. I have called and talk to the CS about this.

    • Not according to the card reward's T&C's:

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Qantas Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semigovernment entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs)

      • Ways to get around that though I thought. i.e. some government bodies allow paypal payments?

      • That's on a different clause to footnote 1 which says:

"Offer extended to 31 March 2018. To earn 75,000 bonus Qantas Points, you must apply for a Qantas Premier Platinum credit card by 31 March 2018, then spend $3,000 or more on your card within 90 days of approval. Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions do not contribute to the spend threshold. Bonus Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited within 6 - 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. Offer may be extended or withdrawn at any time."

I would avoid $hitybank product at all costs. EVERYONE I know who had a Citibank card has been scammed in the past 12 months and the experience dealing with these scams or mentally and physically exhausting when you are talking to those offshore service reps, i.e. it would literally take me 5 mins to repeatedly spell "Broadway" for one of them as she doesn't know how.

    • took me 3 weeks of back and forth to get the virgin card…

    • +2

really dislike the citibank online banking platform!

      • +1

I don't mind the online banking, it's the ongoing breach of security.

    • +1

I have two Citibank cards and have never been scammed on them. But, I agree their retail service sucks in the extreme.

However, I did have a scam on my 28 degree card and they breached their own requirements of not informing me so I didn't know my card had been cancelled until a day before a trip overseas when all these hotels started contacting me that my bookings were about to be cancelled. Been a happy Bankwest Platinum card holder since.

    • 3 yrs ago my citibank card was compromised. I got a text from citibank service telling me there's been some odd transactions on my credit card which I didn't authorise. They cancelled my card and sent me a new one within 4 days which was pretty good service. This was 3 yrs ago so I don't know how they are now…

  • +3

Check the T&C's on the $3000 spend. Might not include council rates and a few other key spends.

    • wow, thats really extending the range of expenditure

    • My interpretation (of the $3K spend required to qualify for the 75K bonus points) is that council rates count towards the spend threshold. Per T&C, the following do not count towards the $3K spend threshold: Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions. Can't see where council rates, or any other BPAY payments, meet these excluded categories (unless the Citibank schmucks classify BPAY payments as 'Special Promotions').

      • You may be correct. All I know is I was caught out with the Virgin/ Citi equivalent of this card that didn't count my council rate spend. But to their credit, they gave me another month to make the expenditure for the points.

        • Bugger - hope you still managed to qualify for your velocity bonus points by spending on other stuff.

      • Got around to reading the t&cs. Promotion summary t&cs are different than the t&cs from the download section which say rego and council rates don't count. Would use PayPal if you can to be safe and or call and verify.

  • I was about to signup with these guys butthey had an error on their enrollment system.

Ended up going with ANZ who were wayyyyyyy faster to give me what I needed.

Can't vouch what it's like once you're setup but the feeling I had with the 2-week customer service response time to get their enrolment system going for me was bad.

In addition, had to email them a screenshot etc even though it was a pretty basic error I was passing onto them.

    • What’s the anz deal

  • Anyone know how user friendly the qantas CC online portal is? Citibank was truly awful to use

    • +1

Dunno about Qantas but yeh, citibanks OTP is (profanity) annoying!

I'm currently using my Fee Free citibank credit card again while I search for another CC which has QFF bonus sign ups.

    • +1

I have the card. The desktop/mobile app is pretty user friendly and very modern. My only complaints are:

      • logging in requires QFF membership number, last name, and 4 digit pin plus SMS 2FA auth which feels a bit old school (for iOS, you can save your credentials though & use Touch ID instead)

      • can't search for transactions like Macquarie Bank (their online portal/mobile app is pretty boss)

  • Is the a waiting period for this card after closing previously?

  • Qantas portal is very basic. It is ok .

  • +1

Doesn't specifically mention credit scores - what do you think it needs to be for this one? I just received the 100k NAB signature one and don't want to get rejected.

  • When do you actually pay the 149?
Is it upon getting and start using the card or end of year?

    • Gets deducted automatically from the opening balance on the card.

  • Is this a visa or mastercard or neither? Bit confused about the ease of using this at retailers that prefer those providers…

    • +2

      Mastercard

  • +2

The sign up process for this card is just ridiculous. They even wanted to call my company and this that - I gave up in the end.

    • +5

Yes it is, it's ridiculous. They wanted my boss to talk to them on the phone and verify I actually work where I claim to work.

To me, applying for a CC is a personal thing so why the hell would I want to let my employer know?

I'm kinda pissed off that I've actually taken a credit hit just cos I applied for this card.

      • +2

        its worse than that

        they called my boss

        THEN

called up my HR department TWICE!!!

        WTF!

        • How did they reach your Boss directly and HR? Did you give them their direct numbers lol?

I kinda knew they were going to contact my employer so I gave them my direct work number so they don't hassle anyone in my company lol.

        • @Homr:

they rang me, cause they were on hold at the HR departments phone line LOL

so they asked if they could speak to my boss, so i gave them her number. she told me later she talked with them and answered all their questions.

next day they call me back AGAIN!…

anyhow long story short.. worst credit card application experience i have ever had.

        • Wow (profanity) that nightmare. I was going to apply for this but will give it a skip. And on top of the comments about the online platform… Miss me with that frustrating shit.

      • +2

I know, because someone REALLY spent all their time making up 3 pay slips, offer letters, financial statements - so JUST in case - they need to call and verify.

It's not even that good a card tbh, the effort was NOT worth it, I went for the NAB 90k one in the end - that process took all of 5/10 mins, and it was approved instantly.

        • Which NAB card did you sign up for?

Their new signature card gives 100K bonus points but its $395 annual fee which just isn't worth it.

        • @Homr:

Was the Signature but months ago with it was 90k. I 'needed' a new card so the $395 payed for itself (and the points didn't hurt) but I see your point - but I disagree.

FYI, a Singapore to Melbourne First Class Emirates flight (one way) cost 90k, so that's a $4k flight rolled into $395 (plus fees), which isn't bad.

        • @jubbing: Oh, what I meant it's not worth it compared to other cards. Paying $395 for 90K points isn't really good value in comparison to ANZ FF which is offering 75K for free, and this one which is $149 for 75K points.

I'm hoping Westpac will boost their bonus points sign up for the black card to 100,000

        • @Homr:

Oh that way sure. If you don't "need" it then no. If you just want points then sure whatevs. I did hit the 100k westpac one last year and cancelled - I wonder how long I have to wait to get the points again.

  • +6

St George Amplify 60k points $99 annual fee is a better deal. Especially if you leave the application half finished for a few days and they send an offer to waive the annual fee…

    • Interesting…(stroking my chin).

    • really???

The signature is 90K points with $279 annual fee. It would be great if they waive that

      https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am…

      • Really.

I didn’t see it but my friend who applied immediately after me but didn’t finish the application got an offer email. So at least get to that step and then leave it and wait…

      • +3

I started an application for each (different email address), received the fee waiver email for platinum but just a reminder to complete application for signature

        • Mind if I ask how long did it take for the fee waiver email to come after you started the appplication? Also, how far along the application did you get? THanks.

        • +1

@kelea: I tried this after reading the comments, for the platinum card. Filled in all info and stopped just prior to submitting the application. Got the email to waive the first year's annual fee within an hour.

        • +1

          @kelea:
Within an hour of starting. I filled out the first part of the form and closed it, it must autosave. Received an email with a reference number and link to complete. It gives you a month to finish the application.
I finsihed it a couple of days ago and approved same day.

        • I can confirm also.

Received the email within an hour after I closed the application before the final submission.

    • I closed this card 3 months ago … can I apply again for bonus points

  • Can you cancel the card after, say, 11 months, without penalty?

    • You get charged straight away.

      • Sorry, I meant 'can you cancel the card without penalty before the start of the second year?'

        • Yes you can. You just need to cancel it before your anniversary date.

  • +2

Their application process and customer service is really useless! I earn decent income+investment property+almost 6digits of saving but got decline because I'm on maternity leave and don't have the last 3 months payslips (I did provide an employment letter showing my income that I will receive when returning to work in 2 months time). Talked to their customer service a few times (had to explain my circumstances every time I rang) spent 2-3 weeks back and forth. They told me to write an email, sent them an email but never heard back. Gave up. Went to NAB and got approved Signature card straightaway.

    • You paid their $279 annual fee? :O

    • Nab is good I got qantas signature with them t

  • Got one, is there any chance I can pay the min spend on ATO tax?

    • worked for me when I applied for the card a couple of months ago

  • The application process for this is really weird. I have gotten 2 separate calls from Citi asking me weird questions some of them the same! Been approved for cards with way higher limits much quicker and easier than this.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I am a points junkie like you mentioned and just rolled off both ANZ & Amex so nice to get a top up while I wait

    • Kept a djs Amex for shop small time?

      • DJ's Amex doesn't impact frequent flyer bonus points eligibility? Waiting my 18 months..

        • +2

You will still be eligible for bonuses after 18 months away from an Amex issued Amex. DJ's is the only Amex card you can have when 'not holding an Amex'. $99 annual fee off memory.

        • @tunzafun001: This is awesome!! Totally dropped the ball on this one.. because I always saw the card on the amex site, I thought it was amex issued. They are giving 20K bonus points (or 15K Qantas)

  • Worst application process I've experienced.

Got up to the upload documents step in browser, it said to follow the instructions in the email to upload. No email.

Sent an enquiry through Qantasmoney contact us page, no response.

Called, and they said there had been a glitch, and they couldn't fix it. I would need to apply again.

I applied again, after being assured on the phone multiple times that only one credit enquiry would appear on my file. Checked my credit file. Two enquiries.

Called them to remove the second enquiry from the credit file. They don't know how to fix it, don't know how to find out how to fix it, can't put me onto somebody that does, and can't make outbound calls or emails or arrange a call back.

    Never again…

  • The process is more complicated compared to another credit card application (ANZ, Westpac, NAB, etc). Someone called to ask to resend the payslip (which I have uploaded through the system the previous night). They also called my HR to confirm (so far, no other bank did).

A lot of exclusion for spending criteria so beware! We use it to pay our rego but it is excluded.

The plus side is, the point is 1:1 so it is a good card to collect QFF. Also, I have already got the 75000 QFF in my first month which is super quick (I think I satisfy the criteria on the 24th Feb and I got the points yesterday).

  • I have applied card yesterday but not confirmation email.. is there any way i can check status of the application ??

  • The only knock back (from ~ 12 cc apps), I have ever rec'd was from Citibank. I'd like those QF sign on bonus points, but do not want a credit application on my file if they pull the same stunt again. So, prob won't go for it. But, thanks OP.

  • same problem as dumlaze, applied few days ago, no confirmation email, called them, have to call someone on Monday to find out.
