In theory you could make $701 with this card in the first year. Based on 1c/QFF point resale + $50/Complimentary Qantas Lounge - $149 first year fee.

    • does qantas issue the complimentary lounge invites in the cardholder's name?

      • +3

It's provided digitally into the card holder's QFF account, but can be transferable to anyone else's QFF account.

    • You da real MVP ^^^

    • how can we resale ?

      • Put your advert on Classifieds. Prices range from about 1-1.5 cents per point. But you may get a funny look if its on the more expensive end of the scale.

      • You can PM me whenever you want.

    • -1

if only the lounge was "worth" $50

      • Other international lounges (e.g. Hong Kong) cost a reasonable amount to enter and aren't as good as the QFF Lounge (imo) but the value really depends on your circumstance. Last time I didn't go to a lounge in HK. Sat down for food and drinks and spent around $50 in a few hours anyway. Plus, in the lounge you get a shower and stuff.

        • Yeah, if you value lounges only in terms of food and drink, you'll never be able to justify it. If you're transiting, or have a long journey ahead/a long day behind you, being able to sit in a comfortable seat in a quiet environment, and take a shower, are all well worth paying for.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:
Agree. I've only ever used these passes when I'm transiting and want to shower. Outside of that I would just arrive to the airport a little later if there's no transit involved. However, as mentioned it's easy enough to spend $40-50 of food/drinks at an airport, which is covered by the lounge.

I actually applied last week when it was just Premier with 60K bonus points, and got changed to Platinum 2 days ago. Going to check if I'm eligible for 75K bonus or not.

Be wary of the balance transfer. I've had this card for a couple months and everytime I made a payment to pay off the purchases I had made, it came off the balance transfer part!

Qantas have refunded the interest and converted my balance but said if I spend on the card, I'll start earning interest until the card is fully paid off.

    • +16

This is standard for all balance transfer offers.

      • +7

Actually the government's 2012 credit card reforms meant that credit providers must allocate repayments to the portion of the balance that incurs the highest interest rate first. So a 0% balance transfer should only be paid off once all other purchases have been cleared off the card.

        • Opps, misread the bit about payments going to the balance transfer part.

        • Ohh didn't know that. How helpful. So if I do balance transfer for 12 month 0% interest, and use the card for day to day purchases and pay each month in full there won't be any interest? If so than things changed for the better :)

        • @mikef:
Yeh so if you balance transfer 3k and make 1k worth of purchases then pay 1k off you won't get charged interest.

        • +1

          @codyy:
that's not always the case, see my comment below.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/339272#comment-5237466

        • Only for cards that were opened after 2012. If your card was opened prior to that, then it is possible that your payments are still being allocated to the lowest interest rate.

        • @tio:
your balance transfer rate doesn't go above 0% if you make a purchase. That 3k you initially balance transferred is still at 0%. Closing balance for your statement is 4k, you pay 1k off, you have 3k left and its at 0%. Thus no interest is being paid.

    • This is exactly how they get ya. If you do balance transfer, don't make any purchases until you pay off the transfer.

      • +2

No, they're not been allowed to do this for quite some time

    • +3

I haven't read the terms but usually if you pay off the purchase before the statement comes out then it'll go towards paying off the balance transfer. But if you pay it off after the statement date then it'll go towards paying off the purchase.

      • I believe this is what happened, but the service person on the phone didn't provide any detail why it happened and basically told me not to spend on the card until the BT had been paid off.

Bit of a surprise since you don't get the 55 days interest free if you have a BT so you're earning interest on purchases straight away.

    • +2

Right, just my 2c on how 0% BT usually works. You really have pay attention to the T&Cs of the 0% promo itself to get some clarification. For this specific card, the relevant T&Cs are:

Apply by 31 January 2018. Your total balance transfers may not exceed 80% of your credit limit. The 0% p.a. interest rate applies to balances transferred with this offer at point of application, for a period of 15 months. The 15 month promotional period commences once the balance transfer is processed. At the end of the balance transfer period, the interest rate on any outstanding transferred balance will revert to the variable Annual Percentage Rate for Cash Advances, currently 21.99% p.a. New Qantas Premier cardholders only. Excludes Balances Transfers from other Citigroup issued credit facilities. Offer may be extended or withdrawn at any time.

As many have pointed out, once the "promotional period commences" you should not make any purchase on the card. Because doing that and the "promotional period" pauses. Note that it pauses, not stops or ends, until the purchase balance had been fully paid off. Then the "promotional period" should recommence. And also note that usually you don't have any "xx days interest free period" on purchases either while the BT balance is still positive, unless there's a specific promo for that.

Now, about the little quirk that you experienced. It is actually in line with the new banking regulation. As soon as you made that purchase, the interest on the BT balance reverted from 0% p.a. to 21.99% p.a. While the purchase balance would have been on the purchase interest rate of 19.99% p.a.

When you made that payment, the payment had to go to the portion attracting the highest interest rate. And in your case, that was the BT balance. So really, nothing was amiss.

And on how the interest are calculated, usually it will be calculated on the daily balance, and billed monthly.

      • In the quote of the T&Cs there's nothing about purchases pausing the promotional period of the balance transfer. All it states is
"The 15 month promotional period commences once the balance transfer is processed. At the end of the balance transfer period, the interest rate on any outstanding transferred balance will revert to the Annual Percentage Rate for Cash Advances, currently 21.99% p.a."

  • Never needed to upload 5 different proof documents for a credit card application before.

    • +1

don't worry I didn't either. I uploaded 2 pay slips and 1 medicare card pic.

      • I did about the same when I applied for the Qantas premier card, I received a phone call a few days later wanting further information like 4 payslips etc before they would approve me.

        • I think I had the same guy call up because I only uploaded 2 pay slips and couldn't upload medicare card for some reason. So he got me to email it to them instead and that was it.

      lol y the hate votes?

      • -3

thats ozbargain too. you say something legitimate that you think rings true to the forum core values, next minute they turn on you. nfi

      • +7

Because the statement is untrue. There are many CC offers with > $0 annual fees that are still bargains. $149 for 75k is actually very good value if you use the points wisely. Even if all you did was sell the points for $750 at 1c pp, then its a good deal still.

  • +1

Any idea how long to get the points? I've got a reward flight I'd like to book and this would make the difference. I assume a statement balance after you spend the $3000?

    • T&C says "within 6 - 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria"

    • Prior to the card's name change I spent $3k within the first week and got the points credited as part of the first statement.

    • Just got my statement and bonus points but they only credited 60,000 not 75,000 points. Anyone else had this issue?

  • +1

How much does it affect ur credit history if you apply 3 credit cards in 2 months?? though I never had credit card before. just banking on this points.

    • I did 5 cc's in a month once and my credit score is 744 in the very good range

  • Where did you read the minimum income requirements?

    • in the FAQ section

Feedback as an existing customer of the Premier Qantas Money card, I can confirm that the iOS app is a bit crappy. It works but has basically 0 features. All you get is transaction list. I also found constant login/logout bugs where it would constantly ask me for my password. This goes for the website too - it seems to severely lack features that i would expect from a citibank based platform. I think I had to reset my QFF pin 4 times in a day a couple of weeks ago.

    • I second this experience

      • Whew glad its not just me :P

The other thing i forgot is that some transactions took 2 weeks to show up on the website and app. So I had a misleading balance for a while. Then they had website maintenance for a couple of days etc. Overall not a great experience compared to other cards I have used in the past. It seems to be many teething issues.

      • I third this experience.

        • Hi all,

I'm thinking about applying, just wondering whether these issues are still occurring for you?

        • @Joe146:

I would still apply for the free points, I just found their online banking experience clunky.

        • @FeZZa21: I was also wondering, how are the points credited to your QFF account?

Are they credited monthly with each statement? Or immediately after each transaction? Or similar to Qantas Cash, they’re credited 30-60 days after the transaction date?

          Thanks for your help btw!

  • was debating doing the $400 for 90k points with NAB but this is better!

not eligible for ANZ offer this year so gotta take an annual fee hit.

    • You can get 100K for $195 with westpac if you havent used that already.

          @F-22:

thanks! did westpac for 50K this year already :)

        • @F-22: Hi, i applied through this and they charged me $250 for annual fees. I just called them and they refuse to honour it saying the promotion expired in October. Can i know if this was a promotions through a company or soft?

        • @happening: They've changed the link now but at the time it was available. They actually charged me $250 also but credited me the difference after I called up(it was a bit of stuffing around though)

        • @F-22: can you advise me what you said to get them to honour this? Thanks

        • @happening: I just explained what the offer was when I signed up and they were reading it off a screen as if they could see the offer. They then agreed it was a mistake and credited. I did get passed around a bit but got there eventually. It's not the first time westpac have stuffed me around. Terrible bank.

        • @F-22: Thanks for your help. I have written a complain to Westpac. As the page has now updated, they can deny all mistakes. BTW, roughly when did you apply for your card?

        • @happening: I think it was start of November.

        • @F-22: Tks mate.

  • Just checked my Credit Score. I've got as many cards as I've got fingers. 6 credit inquiries since 2014 (2 this year). Score of 650 (good). About to cancel 3 x ANZ, 1 x NAB. Am I likely to be approved for this? and maybe the Virgin card (never been rejected to date).

    • +1

if your salary is decent enough, I don't think they even look at your credit rating.

      • So 'claim' 1 million $ a year in rental returns and dividend payments to my avg salary..got it!

    • if u cancel your cards… i dont think it appears on your credit report does it ?
only credit checks (when applying for things that require credit .. eg. credit card, mortgage, sometimes phone contract)

  • If you only plan to hold the card for the first year, is there any reason to get this over the ANZ Black which gives 75K points and waives the first year fee?

    • Get both like I am

    • +1

      Get both if you can.
Most here already have the ANZ cards, hence why they cannot apply again for 12 months, and therefore getting this card.

    • +1

This one has less strict criteria on income.

  • Has anyone been doing this long term? I have had 5-6 credit cards in the last year all earning me some great point bonuses..

My credit rating is 826 on credit savvy which is "very good" I would just hate to have this cause me issues down the track applying for a home loan ect..

    Thanks

    • My last cc application actually resulted in my rating going up lol.

I have seen other peoples replies that said they have had queries from bank about the amount of cc applications on file, they just explained it was to get the bonus on signups, and apparently the banks were fine with that.

      • Veda changed the way they did their scoring.

had the same happen to mine and was a bit surprised.
newscore is basically same as old score under the new rating system.

    • When i applied for a home loan. I had two active CC and two applications for CC on record at that time.

The bank told me in order to get a higher loan amount to be approved, I should cancel the current active cards because of the credit limit (only $5000).

So… I don't think it's about credit rating if you're looking to get home loan.

  • Anyone been able to dig up any rules on whether there's a minimum waiting period since when you cancelled the card last time to when you can apply for a new one?

I did a previous deal and not sure I'm eligible. Struggling to find any details on whether there's a limit in the terms and conditions.

    • T&C say "New Qantas Premier cardholders only." a bit vague, you could call up and ask.

  • This gets you 10,000 more poibts than the recent ANZ deal and 2 lounge passes for essentially $149. Just to help people compare.

Also can you use the lounge passes for Jetstar flights?

    • You can always use Qantas lounge passes before Jetstar flights, but domestically the terminals are often different. So if flying from Melbourne or Sydney, you'd have to go through security to access the Qantas Club, then exit, walk 10 or so minutes to get to the Jetstar terminal, and redo security.

Really nice to be able to use the Business lounges when flying Jetstar internationally, though.

  • Anyone know if you can use Qantas lounge pass if flying on a flight that is code shared with Qantas? e.g. Brisbane to Taiwan operated by China airlines but code shared with Qantas?

    • I have been told unless the flight starts with a QF you cannot get in

    • Yes you can. My husband did this three weeks ago - Brisbane to Taipei.

      • That's good to know thanks!

      • Which carrier? And was he using physical lounge passes?

  • Just got approved with the previous 60k points offer 5 days ago :(

    • HI 7seven7.
Did u hv to make a lot of effort for this. Apparently its issued by citibank n they r not the nicest people to deal with… ?

      • +1

I've held a few Citibank cards in the past and they've always been a pleasure to deal with. In fact their online credit card portal was preferable for me compared to a few others because they actually split their statements out into each supplementary card holder (ANZ don't do this).

Downside to this is that everything goes through the Qantas Money app which is awful.
