    Unlimited plans…. Hmmm.

    What's your CVC like?

    Peek time congestion issues?

Usually $125 for a modem router - what make and model?

    • -1

Lookup the NBN Wholesale pricing, find the AVC cost and subtract this from the plan cost ex GST. Maximum CVC spend is the remainder.

Unlimited plans will either have congestion today or are only a few heavy downloaders away from congestion occurring.

Interesting to note that Boom don't offer 100Mbps. As expected, RSPs are sacrificing faster plans for unlimited quotas. Hardly surprising when 84% are opting for 25Mbps or slower and 100Mbps customers are expected to be more critical of poor performance.

Aren't you by law meant to list reasonable expected speeds during peak hours on each of your plans?

    • it's not law, it's only "guidance" from the ACCC (accc.gov.au/publications/broadband-speed-claims-industry-guidance), although the ACCC has said they will be looking carefully at ISPs that don't comply.

  • OP the reviews you linked to are mostly by users with 1 review.

    • I even heard there's no respawn points in RL.

Do you have any details on your contention ratio? Also what is your international peering and bandwidth like?

  • +3

Bugger, you should have posted this before I signed up for the Mate 50/20 unlimited data and phone calls for $78.

Hang on, the deal I signed off is cheaper than what you're offering!

    • +2

Unfortunately it's completely impossible to compare offers currently as no one publishes contention ratios.

My friend has a $60 myrepublic 100/40 unlimited and gets 40mbit down offpeak. The nbn is the damn wild west for quality. They've made it a nightmare for the average consumer.

      • +1

Myrepublic are no longer offering that price. It's now $84.99 for the 100/40 plan.

      • I'm with MyRepublic and get constant average of 54down and 25up on FTTN with bottleneck being the copper lines for me not the isp. Mileage varies so much though from postcode to postcode

      • Contention ratios are only part of the picture. An RSP with quotas can have higher contention ratios without congestion.

Doesn’t really look like a deal to me.

This is more expensive then other ISP's depending on who you look at. And these guys have no track record or indication of not having a congested network.

TPG also has a much bigger network then "boom" so unless can prove they have better CVC then them…

    Boom:

12/1 Mbps Unlimited GB Data – $60 per month
25/5 Mbps Unlimited GB Data – $70 per month
50/20 Mbps Unlimited GB Data – $85 per month

    TPG:

12/1 Mbps Unlimited GB Data – $60 per month
50/20 Mbps Unlimited GB Data – $70 per month
100/40 Unlimited GB Data – $90 per month

And there are plenty of cheaper ISP's as well.

How does porting work in NBN HFC land?

Just finished my 12 months on Belong, can I port to TPG without paying a setup fee/going on a contract? I mean the NBN box is already installed..

      • With NBN FTTP, yes.

I assume/hope its the same with the other types.

  • Unlimited downloads? Small ISP with no track record? Pass…..I will stick with ISPs that care about quality rather than quantity.

  • +2

    I haz no NBN :(

  • Tough crowd :)

  • I used them 4 years ago and really enjoyed the service, however this was in a building with FTTP and barely anyone else on the NBN back then.

    Simpler times.

    "award winning customer support team"

    Which awards? Awarded by whom?

  • Are there any crowd-sourced tables showing what people's experiences are on the various ISPs, in regards to congestion and contention ratio?

    • Experience from the ADSL2+ unlimited plans would suggest that if such tables were published, ISPs with good ratings selling unlimited plans would quickly attract heavy downloaders who would in a few months time abandon ship when ratings changed.

If you are on an unlimited plan with good performance, I suggest keeping the ISP and particularly the PoI secret to avoid attracting heavy downloaders.
