Isn't this used to be $59.99?? I signed up my uncle for this plan a year ago

    • That was an early bird special, since then they've bumped the prices up by $10 or so.

    • Yes and that offer ended 31 August 2017

    • but did it include unlimited national calls?

      • -2

        Yeah it's included

      • +1

        It did not.

    • Yeah, $10 bump and the last day for the offer? I wonder what the next price will be.
Given the recent change in CVC pricing, some of the providers have been lowering prices. Odd time to continuing increasing them

      • +1

Apparently they were considering not offering100/40 anymore

        https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/business/the-…

The focus on 50 Mbps product, with no change to 100 Mbps, had MyRepublic managing director ANZ Nicholas Demos warning his company might stop selling the top tier, because the 50 Mbps products were significantly more attractive to sell.

To date, MyRepublic has sold only the fastest-speed plans, but flagged the introduction of 50 Mbps products this month.

        • This was my fear also.

But I was unable to get the rep I was talking to today to give me any indication if they would still offer 100/40 after tomorrow. They would not even confirm that the GamerPro plans would still be available to order after today.

My suspicion is that they may offer a cheaper 50/20 product, and increase the price of the 100/40 plans. Just a guess though.

I am not due to get the NBN until mid March (FTTN …sigh). So I would have to sign up today for ADSL to be rolled over onto NBN. I was told that if I ordered today I would be on the 100/40 speed tier when I get my NBN. Unfortunately there is no way for me to pre-order a service on the GamerPro plan (The Static IP is the feature I want) so his has me thinking of giving it a miss and looking at other ISP's.

I have three family members on MyRepublic and it has been a good value service for them. I understand that MyRepublic is definitely NOT up to the levels of AussiBroadband, but then it does not cost anywhere near as much!

        • Hardly surprising that RSPs will start dropping 100Mbps when <14% are ordering 100Mbps speed tier and avoids issues with ACCC over peak speeds.

        • +1

@mathew42: The cost of the 100Mbps plans are usually cited as the main reason people aren't getting them. Continually making them more expensive just reinforces that.

Myrepublic were the ones pushing for gigabit speeds to be offered, if they get rid of their 100/40 plan and have 50/20 as the best offering that'll be quite a change in tune

        • +1

@hellbound: Unlimited 1Gbps plans are simply not affordable at a price that people are prepared to pay.

RSPs have been able to order a 1Gbps plan from NBNCo since December 2013. AussieBroadband are expanding the list of PoIs that support 250Mbps connections. Hopefully they will be in a position to offer 500Mps at the PoIs with most customers connected shortly.

        • +1

          @mathew42:
And when the vast majority of us who have the 100MBps service on FTTN get NOWHERE near 100MBps. I get 29MBps. Obviously not a problem related to MyRepublic and more a failing of the FTTN concept, but exceedingly annoying all the same.

And don't get me started on the massive slowdown at night, every night …

        • @carmar: Unfortunately 84% of your fellow countryman have chosen 25Mbps or slower and worse still unlimited data plans with congestion are preferred over quota plans.

NBN have reported that the average FTTN speed is 68Mbps, so it looks like you've really lucked out.

        • @carmar: Check your sync speed in your modem - if you're syncing at 29Mbps then it's due to the FTTN, but if you're syncing higher and getting crap real world speeds then it's due to MyRepublic - and the fact that you're seeing a noticable slowdown at night is 100% down to MyRepublic.
I went from a MyRepublic 100Mbps plan to a TPG 25Mbps and saw a significant real world speed increase with TPG - MyRepublic simply didn't have enough bandwidth (CVC) at the POI to give decent speed, the only time with MyRepublic that I got anywhere near decent speed was after 1am.

        • @WazzaP: Nah, mate, syncing at 29Mbps, unfortunately - I'm about 800m from the node, so 29Mbps is technically all I can expect. So definitely it's the fact that an inferior technology has been deployed in my area. The performance for me only drops below that speed from about 5.00pm to 10.00pm - that's MyRepulic's lack of bandwidth.

        • @carmar: why is 29mbps technically all you can expect? I'm on FTTN 100MBPS plan and I'm getting a sync rate and real world speed of 60mbps. Night time during peak I'm dropping down to 53mbps.

  • i thought the ISPs werent going to advertise 100/40 any more

  • +2

Cant recommend these guys at all. Contract is over next month. Goodbye.

    • +5

Reality is, no ISP can be recommended. It's all a totally mixed bag, where it comes down to how many people of a given ISP are on your particular part of the network. Cheaper ISP's are slightly more likely to be worse as they buy less capacity, but there are no guarantees in any part of the spectrum.

If you're on FttN/FttB with a copper line, it adds another random variable on top of things. A friend of mine had a bad connection on MyRepublic until NBN had a _decent_look (when the line permanently dropped out instead of every 2 hours), to find his copper wire went through his neighbour's attic (not an attached house).

My philosophy: spend as little as you can, and if things work (well enough), don't touch it!

(I'm on MyRepublic - speeds are okay-ish; speed tests from speedtest.net come back close to 80Mbps, but only since I complained :) )

      • +4

My philosophy is a Good ISP will not have unlimited plans

        • +2

but if everyone uses their quota at 7pm it wont even make any difference. on my TPG unlimited i mainly use at night but there is no peak congestion anyway.

        • +1

It all comes down to the magic sauce. I am fairly sure that MyRepublic manipulates individual speeds based on how people use it. My speeds were getting very slow (11Mbps), so I lodged a complaint. I was asked for speed test results, but would you believe it, I was suddenly unable to achieve a bad speed test result (even during peak hours). It's been flying since that complaint (though interestingly, my actual speeds are never as good as the speed test speeds).

There is so little transparency that I have given up trying to work out which ISP is good and why.

        • +5

          @Savas:

Must be your POI, heaps of people bitch about TPG

        • @Savas: Lets assume a 1TB quota on 100Mbps speed tier, which is 33.3GB/day and will last 45 minutes at full speed.

Based on that quotas will have a significant impact on performance. Real world evidence of RSPs who don't provide unlimited plans having good reputations supports this.

        • @Make it so: A lot of ISPs prioritise traffic to speedtest.net which is why you'll see faster speeds from there than you're actually able to achieve. Try with fast.com - to prioritise this they have to prioritise netflix as well. Also try the likes of ftp://ftp.optus.net.au/pub/ (as MyRepublic use optus backhaul in some areas they seem to accept the Optus FTP server for speed verification).

        • @WazzaP: you're right. Fast.com is usually slower. About 9Mbps right now. Speedtest.net going way faster. Tricky buggers!

        • Would you not consider Telstra a 'good' RSP in that case?

      • Reality is, no ISP can be recommended.

        I’d certainly disagree with that.

There’s recommendations based on price, service, support and/or a mixture of them all. As an example, I’d highly recommend Telecube based on the solid connection they provide and how great their customer service is.

I recently moved to Buzz Telco and while they might not be as big or efficient as Telecube, their pricing (on promo) was unbeatable and their support has been fantastic i.e I’d recommend them based on my experience.

People can recommend as much as they like, it doesn’t mean everyone will have the same experience.

        • That's good to hear, but your experience may not reflect that of others, which is what I am trying to say. Buzz Telco scores lower than MyRepublic on ProductReview.

Telecube is good, but that may change when many others sign up. It's often been like that with new ISP's.

        • +1

@Make it so: Just because people’s experiences may vary doesn’t mean there can’t be recommendations made by others.

If you’re going to say it about ISP/RSP’s you might as well say it about absolutely everything because what it comes down to is personal opinion, preference and first hand experience.

        • @Jonesy7707:

If you’re going to say it about ISP/RSP’s you might as well say it about absolutely everything

No, that's a generalisation. I am saying that recommendations become meaningless when they cannot be extrapolated to other areas.

      • +2

i think skymesh and AussieBB are the exceptions but you have to be conservative with your downloads i guess

        • Skymesh have been taken over and quality has fallen off a cliff according to whirlpool.

        • @mathew42:

It’s all variable. Had Skymesh on Port 1. Trialled AussieBB on Port 2. No issues with Skymesh, but had Netflix constantly stop to buffer on AussieBB

        • @mathew42: yikes

          and then there was 1

        • @LeftHandSeat:

          What did support say ?

      • I used to live in an old duplex that had this. Had to get telstra out to fix a new permanent line in for the house.

      • Similar. When I complain and am doing tests, speeds of 85+ are achievable. But it's been a while since I last complained, and speeds of 20-38 are common.

Also there's that wait time to get service, which can be up to 30 mins (though I've also had responses at less than 5 minutes too)

    • Please explain

      • Slow FTTN speeds. Customer service is hopeless with 45+ minutes wait on the phone to get through. They make you jump through hoops to get anything looked into, which of course involves multiple phone calls to them.

      • -1

        They oversell there bandwidth

    • I also can't wait to leave this company. It took 6 months for my NBN connection to get connected. Dealing with their support is the worst I've ever experienced. I came from TPG who aren't highly regarded for customer service, but are miles better and I'll happily be going back to them, despite the extra money.

I ended up dealing with the ombudsmen when trying to get connected originally, and after many days off work wasted due to missed appointments (which my MyRepublic case handler knew about in advance but didn't think to notify me, until I called him to find out why no one showed up) MyRepublic offered me compensation for the days off work wasted, I'm currently still fighting to get them to come good on that promise, despite having it in writing.

The MyRepublic customer service team don't seem to be able to comprehend the concept of making contact with a customer, so any issues (and trust me, there's been plenty) involve constantly getting in contact with them so they can check for updates from their internal teams or NBNCo.

And that's just the customer service, I won't bore you with the performance/latency issues (even though I'm on the 'gaming' plan).

      • Why not change to a quality RSP like AussieBroadband or Telecube?

        • +2

I will be considering that - I'm not paying MyRepublic anything (apart from their junk $1 modem) just making the most of all the free months I can get out of them from the connection hassles I went through.

    • +1

I totally agree. Gave them two chances to connect internet to two different properties and they couldn't do it. Months of waiting and wasting time on the phone with their call centre. Ended up back with TPG.

    • +1

Agree - although I didn't wait until my contract was over, instead I continually supplied their support people with proof that the service I was getting was significantly under par for the service they were selling and ended up getting them to waive my contract and refund 2 out of the 3 months payments I'd made to them.

  • I would rather wait for kogan NBN ;)
Kogan always comes up with good introductory offers..

Currently I am with Amaysim ($40/month) and somewhat happy as the speed is tier1 and its ok for $40..

If myrepublic has the same introductory plan of $59.99 I would think of moving.. but not for $69.99

    • Yeah with their kogan mobile being good value, i wonder what their nbn pricing would be like. I'm with optus at the moment and so far, they deliver as advertised. Hopefully kogan does the same, if they do, I might switch. :)

    • but.. but… buzztelco only $19 pm

      • That was for min speed. Same price now for this speed..

  • Wow, I was getting annoyed with MATE Communicate with my 100/40 plan where I was getting download speeds some days under 700kb/s. My normal connection speed with speedtest is about 98/38 with a local server, or 40/7 with the speedtest server in LA. When I saw this I thought I should move somewhere cheaper than my $108 that I am paying for 100/40 and local/ national and Aussie mobile inclusive, these guys MyRepublic charge $79.99 for the same deal, so that is real tempting. But looking at Myrepublic users talking about them on productreview is scary. https://www.productreview.com.au/p/my-republic.html

  • No Deal standard price

If you dont need unlimited Data - Telecube NBN Offer - 100/40 1000GB $69 soooo much better - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2675951

    • Are they still offering this price? I thought it ended on the 31/1.

      • Offer expires 28th February 2018

  • Telstra will Start dropping their prices soon

  • -5

Any internet plan with LIMITED data in 2018 is trash whatever how good the connection or speed is IMO.

    • -1

Depends if you want to the full speed at all times, People who just want to download heaps won't join and its win win.

      • I think more people want 'cheaper' than 'unlimited'. The problem is, unlimited plans tend to be cheaper than 500GB or 1TB plans. So they go unlimited while using less than 1TB, and maybe even less than 500GB, but getting poor speeds.

I'm paying $60 for MR unlimited. I'll gladly trade that unlimited for 1TB for the same price, if it improves my speeds.

I was very happy for the first year. But it didn't last. And even if you move to an ISP that people are praising now, who knows what things will look like a year from now? Skymesh was one that people here and on WP loved. Now people are unhappy.

    • Unlimited plans are only good value if you want to subsidise the top 10% of downloaders in the country and don't want peak period performance. For the large majority, quotas make sense.

      • Is the peak period performance guaranteed if you choose the data limited plan but you are not on the FTTP?

        • +2

No, there's no ISP that will guarantee residential connection speeds.

But Aussie Broadband claim their customers will get "typical evening speed" on a 25Mbps FTTN connection will be 22Mbps and from my own experience on a few friend's connections, they actually deliver on that claim.

They very openly say they won't offer unlimited data plans, at any price, because it attracts the wrong kind of customer. By saying that data is unlimited, they imply that data has no value, and their customers treat it accordingly.

My Republic has taken the opposite route and attracted lots of very data-heavy customers. And their network performance reflects that in peak periods.

You can either have reliable and consistent speeds, or unlimited data. You can't have both.

        • +1

Contrary to popular opinion FTTP doesn't offer guaranteed performance. The NBN Wholesale pricing has 4 traffic classes. Only the top traffic class is guaranteed, however at $300/month for 5/5Mbps on top of an existing connection it is not cheap.

        • @klaw81:

"typical evening speed" on a 25Mbps FTTN connection will be 22Mbps

Does that mean typical speeds on 100Mbps will be 97Mbps, or 22 since you can't even fully max out a 25Mbps line in the evenings? Yes I know in reality you shouldn't expect to max out your line, just wanted clarification.

  • +1

Also be mindful its $299 to terminate your contract…

  • I've been with these guys for near on 12 months now. Still paying only $60 I think.

Off-peak speeds are blisteringly fast, 11MB/s (~90mbit/s), but at night speeds are more like 0.8MB/s (6-7 mbit/s), half the speed of my previously connected ADSL2 service.

    Still, for $60, I can't really complain.

    • +1

Err.. yes you can. You're getting less than 1/10th the speed you paid for. You sure as hell should be able to complain about that. Whether you're entitled to get something back for it or expect them to change anything for you is a different question. But complaining to the TIO is your right. I'll be doing just that if MR doesn't rectify it for me.

There was a short outage a few days ago in my area for a service upgrade. It did nothing for my speed.

  • +1

Myrepublic are worst.. the sales rep connected to number 36 instead of 26 and sent me the bill for 36 while I await my connection.. :( in the mean time NBN stopped giving new connection in my area due to some issue..
Thanks to myrepublic I am still running ADSL.. never talking to them again..
the speed is pathetic as we experienced in my friends house recently anyway.. so may b hatev happens, happens for good suppose

    • +1

I got in early and I was over the moon with the speeds I was getting for the price I was paying.

You got in late when the party was over.

I'm looking for a new ISP myself.

  • +1

If you are okay with almost 1 hour waiting time each time you call, then go ahead with this deal.

  • +1

Run for the hills, I'd rather dial up than any product with my republic

  • I had good speeds for a year. But since 2018 it's been poor. Even in off peak times. I can't recommend them now.

I wanted to switch to ABB but they raised prices. Then I thought about the Telecube deal a few days ago but was too afraid of not being able to get my number ported over. There wasn't enough time left on the deal for me to commit to it. So I am now waiting for another special.

Hell, if someone tells me that Telstra HFC NBN is good, I'll even cough up what they're asking.

  • New plans/pricing now showing on their website.

    50mbps Plan - $69.99
    100mbps Plan - $84.99

    50mbps Gamer Pro - $79.99
    100mbps Gamer Pro - $94.99

The way things are going we will be paying $100pm for a 25mbps plan and be hold by the LNP that all we need is 12mbps because that's all people are signing up for.

I also think this change by myrepublic is a bad call and come back to bite them.

    • Hmm. That's a significant increase. Charging $85 for what they once charged $60 for. I wonder if it means people will leave the service and give me better speeds again? Probably not. They'd be grandfathered in anyway. I thought NBN's discount was meant to help reduce prices not increase them.
