  • From the pics, looks like it can hold 9 stacks of coins. How many of each coin denominations are there? Or is each stack the size of the 50c coin so each one can hold any size?

    • +2

9 stacks total, each column has a marking which can only fit that particular coin:
      Column are:
      - x2 $2
      - x2 $1
      - x1 5c
      - x1 10c
      - x2 20c
      - x1 50c

I like it, but not for $28. I imagine you'll be seeing these in reject shops for $3 before long.

    • at most it would cost 50c to make at best

      • +5

can you give me the contact details of your contract manufacturer please?

        • A 20 up die tool, spitting them out every few seconds, you'd be surprised at how much things really cost to make

        • +1

well since its from the UniSyd 3D Printing Club,
I'm guessing it could be anyone who visits Aldi Saturday week

        • @Trantor: Right, I just want a specific company to contact…

People always say "oh, doing x is easy", but in this case, I want to get some stuff made, and I don't know how.

        • @abb: I've been out of the trade a while and really only knew the Melbourne area, your best bet would be to find a tooling manufacture, discuss with them your needs, what the design of the time is and work with them, there's bound to be some changes needed to make the design efficient to mass produce, but if your just doing it for concept purposes or with a limited qty, find someone with a good 3D printer.

Hard to resist with a description that includes: "…new conceptual plastic bearing system so that customers enjoying a little fun while assembling it and fall in love with spinning it."

  • +1

I think it makes good gift.

  • I don't get the scales aspect. the markings on the sides help count the coins? What do the scales do - if I had stuff in the centre column would that not skew the weights?

    • +1

the markings on the sides help count the coins?

      Yes.

      What do the scales do

      Exactly what you said before.

would that not skew the weights?

      No weights are involved.

I think you're stuck on one particular meaning of the word scale (the device used for weighing), they're using it in a different sense:

A system of ordered marks at fixed intervals used as a reference standard in measurement: a ruler with scales in inches and centimeters.

      source: https://www.wordnik.com/words/scale

      • You are right, I thought there was some sort of weight scale built into the base and it somehow could count the coins by weight… which I could not work out how it would work.

    • Self-counting scales

Yes, I think a better phrasing of this feature would be "cumulative value markings".

There is no self-counting per se.

  • Also white, blue or pink "classic edition" for $22 (a little less?) here if that can justify the purchase?

    • The classic edition is made from a slightly lower grade plastic and has a noticeable different feel to the Premium Edition. That said, they both perform the exact same task so it depends how often you are going to touch it!

  • +1

But….but…. but, then I'd lose my stack of 14 x $2 coins and have to start all over again.

  • Abit expensive

  • +1

    will it hold my bitcoins?

  • I didn’t know I wanted one until I saw this. Right now I have an old biscuit tin at home holding my spare change and I usually do a once a year trip to the bank to deposit it. Getting this would make having spare coins fun again. 😄

  • Looks good but seems a bit expensive

  • Great if you moonlight as a taxi driver.

  • The classic edition ones on the same site are only $22.
Change the colour to black and call it "Limited edition" and raise the price $6 …..
    Neg from me.

    • The Limited Edition model is made from a different material to the Standard edition. It is hard to describe without actually feeling one but the Premium Edition has a better feel than the standard.

  • For those who bought a 3D Printer from past deals.
