Melbourne/Sydney/Perth - London Return from $999 on Garuda (Long Connections) from Now Til Dec

110

Seems the best economy deal from east coast cities on full service airline at present. Also a good range of dates covered. Also includes 30kg luggage.

Downside is some connections may be poor e.g. SYD-CGK-LHR with an overnight in Jakarta (but some prefer breaking the trip). Selected flights only in below date range.

Skyteam alliance for points accrual.

Five star Skytrax rating FWIW

MEL/SYD/PER departure dates: 22 Jan - 07 Jun 18; 9 Jul - 6 Dec 18.

Example price was Syd 12 Feb LHR 17 Mar $990.08

Likely cheaper prices from discount travel agents, or Flight centre to knock a dollar off.

Business class also available from $4440 to $5245.

Some of these 'dodgier' and 3rd world sounding carriers to most people recently have been getting super rave reviews over recent years.

    Eg Vietnam air business class

I wonder if garuda business is still miles behind

    • Garuda first is right up there.

  • prices are good but i'd rather pay 10 - 15% more to avoid having any kind of stopover or transit in jakarta.

    • Garuda operates out of a brand new fancy terminal in Jakarta starting in the last few months. There's a brand new airport train into the city that just opened in the last few weeks as well.

      • I might have to look into this further then - wasn't aware of the latest updates!

Personal experience: Garuda is a great airline and their economy is actually quite good. Flights from SYD to CGK are great and the thing I like best from them is their crew hospitality as they are just so friendly. CGK, however, is a different matter. It is good enough for a quick layover but not so if you need to spend a night in there. They have some duty free shops, restaurants, cafes and some lounges but obviously you can't compare it with SYD or KUL or SGP or HK or other big airport that connects Australia to the UK. I'm not even sure if they have 24 hours lounge or not. For the price and the airline, I'd say you can't go wrong.

    • Garuda now transits from a new terminal at CGK. Vibe is on par with KLIA1, but since it's new there's not really so many duty shops there last I transited out (around Jun 2017).

      • Oh yeah. Totally forgot about the new terminal since I have yet to use it. Fun fact: currently, only Skyteam carriers moved the new terminal for now with others maybe to follow over time. Just airlines alliance politics in play here. :)

Did you even read the article?

      • Garuda has no doubt improved since the EU ban, but you still have to land and take off in Jakarta.

Jakarta airport isn't where the safety problems are. It has more traffic than SYD or SIN, but despite that it doesn't really have a worse safety record.

Its the other airports you have to worry about (and many are situated in mountainous areas)… and the safety procedures of the numerous low cost airlines that handles domestic traffic in often terrible weather conditions.

Garuda isn't on that list, buddy. Those 9 there are low-cost carriers like your Jetstar or Tiger. Admittedly Citilink used to be owned by Garuda until it was spun off..in 2012.

  • Bugger. Not available when I need to be travelling
