Wind would be fine but rain may be an issue. The cable etc is water resistant but the internal mechanism perhaps not. If you were able to mount it in a protected corner or something you should be fine, I have one installed in the patio at home and it's been fine (and makes use of the electric blower extremely easy!)
It’s always good when people make a recommendation on safety based on a sample size of 1. Information provided on the packaging would seem to be more useful.

No it was obviously only semi-serious. Don't know many apartments with balcony powerpoints, and if there was one then an 18m lead would be pointless - unless he/she has an enormous balcony. Max power rating wound/unwound would be useful for anyone considering a purchase. That's a lot of coil there.

I remember reading that you must NEVER use a lead that is rolled into a coil - ALWAYS extend it.

It's fine. It's only an issue if you are using it close to it's maximum rating for extended periods because the heat cannot dissipate.

I believe its to do with the cable overheating.
If you draw to many amps through the cable it will begin to heat, the more cable the higher potential for it overheating.
Yes and with 18m it's very likely most of it will remain coiled. 10A might be the uncoiled rating.
I got the same unit but from fleebay for about $120 and they are excellent if you hate dealing with long power cables as much as I do…. I use it weekly to charge my boat batteries and it’s been a real time saver
Agreed, I got one from Aldi for $70 a while ago and love it. Waiting for them to have them on sale again.
I have mine on my ceiling which makes it super convenient. Just pull down the cord when needed and reel it back up when done. Also lessens the chance of tripping or wheeling something over the cord.
Can I install it on my apartment balcony (exposed to wind and rain)? Or is outdoor use a bad idea?
