  • If only it was the 1060!

    • Im actually so impressed at what my 1050ti can do.
The 1060 costs much more to make and then to cool.
This is a pretty dam good deal.

    • The 1060 is significantly better then 1050ti.

      Even the max q version.

      • For $1600, I’d rather get an Acer Helios 300 off Amazon but I’m not in a hurry.

As soon as I can get an i7/16GB RAM/GTX1060/SSD+HDD for $1500, I’m in.

    I got a 7757 with 1060 for $1359…. ebay special from dell.

This is not normally $1899. It's normally $1699. Making this price about 12% off.

Shit deal imo - you can get the same laptop with the following specs for $1429

    i5
    8G RAM
    1060
256G NVME SSD, 1 TB HDD

i7 vs 15? 16GB vs 8GB? form factor? Brand? It's not the best deal but not neg worthy. Your 1429 laptop is worse in every way except graphics card. If your not a gamer yours is the crap deal.

      • +1

well considering this is a "gaming laptop" the other one is better for gaming.

        • +1

Marginally - with the slower i5 and 8GB ram the 1050 ti might not be the bottle neck in that configuration.

      • -1

Yes - probably shouldn't of neg'd but my post still stands to reason.

"the same laptop" - You can get the exact same model (Dell Inspiron 7000 Gaming) with the specs I stated.

Yes, quite different specs however better for real world use.

        1) i5 vs i7 - you will get very marginal better performance (+6% ST apps) from the i7 however this would barely be noticeable. Would benefit someone if they're going to be running VMs, running sim software or editing videos/streaming.

        2) how often are you capping out your RAM on your laptop? This is a portable workstation and 8GB is fine. The vast majority of users do not need more than 8GB.

        3) The laptop specs I posted are $70 cheaper.

        4) 1060 only better if you're a gamer? debatable depending on what applications you're using. On a variety of applications that can utilise graphical acceleration you'll probably get better real world performance from the 1060 i5 vs the 1050ti i7. i7 could potentially perform better on some games that are poorly optimised and are CPU bottle necked.

        5) 128GB SATA SSD vs 256GB NVME SSD - SSD is double the size.

point being, you shouldn't have negged because you found a 'better' deal because this is still a deal to someone. Would you consider revoking your neg? It's this kind of trigger happy negging that puts off new users. If its not a great deal, it wont make front page.

I mean it's not bad but it's definitely not great.. If you want a 1050ti look at the E570p https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/350479

I would pay the extra $100 and get an Acer Predator Helios 300 from Amazon US. No warranty but I'll take good care of it imho..

    • The lower config Helios isn't a half bad deal. If I have too many more issues ordering the Dell, I'll probably switch to the higher spec'd version and forego the UHD display and storage on the Dell.

      • As far as I can tell the higher spec difference is only the extra 16 gb of ram for $350+ USD that's it nothing else not even a larger SSD.

Same screen, same copy, same backlit keyboard, still 15.6" Full HD.

So if you wanna seriously save money buy the cheaper one and buy another set of 8x2 gb of ram.

Save probably $200 something AUD go treat yourself.

  • I checked out this deal, but decided on ordering a different configuration via the Dell US store for USD $1350 (will be under AUD $2100 landed)

The notable upgrades from this deal are 512GB SSD, GTX 1060 6GB and a UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS Display.

The benefits can be argued, but I specifically wanted at least a GTX 1060 6GB video card for VR capabilities, and if I upgrade the RAM to 32GB, I can seriously consider retiring my old Lenovo workstation (4th Gen i7, 32GB RAM, Quadro M2000M and 2x very fast SSDs).

    • Fark Me!!! Dell US are such a pain to deal with as they don't want aliens ordering from them.

I managed to order and pay for the amount required in gift cards via their official gift card store (they accepted payment and everything), but have since cancelled the order with the message:

We're sorry. We were unable to process your eGift Card order from Dell

Oh well, I will have to wear double currency conversion and bank fees both ways due to their incompetence :( I checked all the terms on the gift card ordering site, and there were no restrictions ordering gift cards, paid for via PayPal etc…
