  • Too bad I already bought the ikea battery charger. Been waiting for these to come on sale for quite a while.

  • good deal! was going to post last night but i was up till 6am looking at which charger to buy and then fell asleep lol

Bear in mind that this only charges Nihm batteries, I ended up getting 2 liitokala lii-500 plus power adapters on ebay for around the same price of one of these (they will charge li-ion too).

I have used this charger for years and my only complaint is the fact that sometimes completely discharged eneloops won't start charging(there is a workaround for this).Overall it's an excellent charger but I prefer the Nitecore D4 I bought last year

My gripe is that charging is a bit slow. I only use it to discharge, test and refresh. When I need to charge batteries I use the Xtar VC4.

      • The charging is slow on purpose. It's supposed to be the most "healthy" one for the battery. Having said that you can change the current level by pressing the 'Current' button and increase it from its default of 200 mA to 500 mA or 700 mA.

        • It's still slow at 700 mAh. I wish I got the BC-900.

The BC700 charges faster than Xtar VC4 when you have 3 or more batteries. BC700 goes up to 700 mA charging current, but Xtar VC4 only does 500 mA when you use 3 or more channels. The downside with BC700 is that the charger and batteries get hot when charging. The Xtar VC4 is super cool even at 1000 mA and it also charges lithium ion rechargeable batteries.

For the best of both worlds, go for the Zanflare C4 instead.

        • Yes, the Xtar VC4 also charges C and D batteries on slots 1 and 4, and it's significantly cheaper as it does one thing: charging.

        • I bought one of these Zanflare C4 chargers last month when it was on special for US$20 and it's been great. It can charge four cells at 1000mA each. It can also measure and display the internal resistance of each cell, which helped me very quickly diagnose a number of failing batteries:

          Review and thorough test here:
          http://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Zanflare%20C4…

    • I discovered that if you leave your completely discharged eneloop battery in the charger for some time (could be several hours, even overnight) then at some point it miraculously comes to life, that is, the charger is able to detect the battery is in and continue charging it properly. I'm guessing that the trickle of charge that the battery absorbs over the few hours that it's there (presumably unrecognized) at some point passes a critical mass of charge so that the La Crosse is able to "see it" normally. Otherwise, using a different "dumb" charger for 5 minutes also does the trick.

      • Just grab a charged battery and the dead battery, run some aluminium foil positive to positive and negative to negative for a bit (10-30 seconds should do it) and the dead battery should charge ok after that.

  • Any comparisons to the Lii-500? This is like twice the price but seems pretty similar. Only extra thing I can see is the Refresh mode.

  • Great charger

  • Have had my one for maybe 5 years or so. Got it from Amazon back then for a similar price and it's still going strong.
It gets used quite often with our massive amount of Eneloops and definitely recommend it.

  • What kind of charger does it come with?

    • I'm going to just go ahead and make an Ass of You and Me. The answer to the question you meant to ask, is its American. I use a cheap and cheerful converter. Had one of these running with that converter for years and both still working.

Unless you were just being funny. In which case, ya got me. Ya got me good. Well played.

      • The voltage converter that drives the charger has an American plug but it is universal (works anywhere you can plug it in).

  • I had a similar model from the same company (BC-900) that worked well over 10 years before I dropped it and something broke inside. Great charger: significantly extended the life of my eneloops. Just got this model from Amazon about a week ago and so far all's good.

  • I'm still using my MAHA Powerex C9000 that I purchased around 2011-2012. It's been great so far.
