    But Yes It is usually locked when you have to purchase the prepaid …in this case to Optus. but can unlock after a period or once you have recharged a certain amount.., some still charge a small unlocking fee.

    Yes, this phone is locked to the optus network however it still can be used by carriers who use the Optus network e.g. TPG.

    If locked to Optus, the unlocking prerequisite is 6 months wait, or $80 of spend, unless things have changed. Unlocking is free once you are eligible, just call helpdesk, give your IMEI and they'll give you the code.

    So if the initial $50 counts toward the spend, then you only need recharge $30 and you are eligible to unlock.
