It doesn't look like the height is adjustable. That's annoying

    • +5

get an adjustable vesa mount, problem solved. Best $100 i spent on my setup.

      • What vesa mount did you get?

        • Not sure why I got a neg? silly goats.

I got the Viiro dual mount for $90 at the time with a coupon. Could probably get cheaper now.

Not top of the line, but works for a bit of minor swivelling.

Edit: The PCTECH coupon applies to that mount. Might make a deal out of it.

    • Agree, I like Dell adjustable screens. (Somehow Apple users never complain ;)

Whats wrong with 75Hz? 25% better than 60Hz at the same price.

      • Nothing wrong with it if you're on a really tight budget, but it does seem a little off calling it a "gaming" monitor when it doesn't have a high refresh rate.

        • -5

They call xbones and PS4's "gaming" yet are capped at 30fps. Unless you're putting $600+ into a GPU, you're not going to see any difference between this and a 144hz monitor for 3 times the price.

        • @Brouw3r:

That's just flat out incorrect. You don't need a $600 GPU to get over 75hz on eSports titles, indie games and older games.

They also call Candy Crush a "game" and I can play Solitaire at 5fps yet I don't point to that when discussing PCMR graphical fidelity and viewing experiences, so don't know why you'd be pointing to consoles.

        • +5

It's not just about the max refresh rate. It has freesync and a very fast response time and much less ghosting than a regular monitor. Good deal for the price for a gamer on a budget or if you want multiple monitors.

        • +1

Well that's just dumb because with your definition of "something higher than 75Hz" a 4K g-sync monitor isn't a gaming monitor.

    1920x1080 is soooo 2011

      xD face is soooo 2003

This monitor is for people who are fine gaming at 1080p like myself. If you can afford to fork out the extra thousands for a 1440p/4k monitor and GPU then by all means, go ahead. For me, I will wait until 4k monitors go down in price.

      • I agree with you on the 1080p comment, but you have to realise that 1440p monitors aren't in the thousands. Perhaps the top end models, sure, but I'm sure for most people you can find decent gaming-ish 1440p monitors in the $400 range.

        • +1

Yeah I was talking about the GPU cost as well, u would need a 1070/1080 to properly game at the higher resolutions. Getting one of those graphics would cost a fair bit, especially since cryptocurrency mining is still booming.

        • Find me a monitor that's 1440p AND 144hz that's $400.

          Bonus points if it's 27in.

          The only Monitor I've found that's 1440p + 144hz is 450ish and personally I don't wanna have a 2k monitor that's only 24 inch but hey for only $400…

        • @sarcastic smoker:

          I’m interested too

          Thanks

          @Aceboy884:

From my research, not gonna happen. You have to make a sacrifice in either resolution or refresh rate. Comes down to what's more important. Visual speed or splendor.

        • @sarcastic smoker: Like I said, decent 1440p monitors :)

Only 144hz or only 1440p isn't exactly "top end model."

    • 1920x1080 is what about 95% of Steam users run at.

  • I saw and thought that might be worth a go with the Ryzen when it arrives.
Currently have a vanilla 23 inch AOC at the moment.

PCByte also seem to have the best local price for Razer Deathadder Elite Chroma Gamer Mouse. My son told me it was the mouse he had to have.

$76 after the discount code. $119 at JB Hi Fi or $118 at Hardly Normal

  • TN ewwwwwwww

    • TN panels can be totally fine, especially when you're only concerned with gaming. Not everyone uses their monitor for photo editing.

  • +2

I assume this would be a fair match with a GTX970, for office work, movies and older FPS games?

    • Absolutely. Although for office work I don't see why you wouldn't go for 1440p or even 4K. The extra space really helps.

      • I actually remote in to my work PC, which uses 1080p monitors, so don;t really need a higher res (unless I can convince work to give me higher res!).

Looks like this price beats anywhere else buy about the 20% discount.

        • When you remote into work, you are not connecting to the work monitor, you are connecting to the server/computer. Therefore it makes no difference what monitor you have at work, it's what resolution is applied in the settings

        • @PleasureMe: Normally you'd be correct, but after connecting to the virtual machine, I remote to my actual laptop, thus having access to all my settings and apps.

I have this exact monitor - if you are after colour accuracy then don't get it. The colours are terrible (very washed out) and it's very hard to adjust the settings between the monitor and a GPU. Otherwise it's easy to use, response is great and it seems to be reliable.

    • Yeah I wouldn't expect great colour accuracy from a TN monitor at this price! It's still great for gaming because of the fast response time + freesync.

  • IS this monitor good just for every day use? i.e. study, facebook, trading, youtube, netflix etc. pretty much anything but gaming.

    • +1

It's a monitor, so yes it will display images, text and even moving pictures (youtube/netflix)

Is it going to display nice looking colours and/or give you more screen real estate than any other 1080p monitor? No. Netflix will look poor compared to an average TV or IPS/VA monitor.

      • +1

To be slightly more helpful: this may be better for viewing movies/images - (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355642) but it is still 24 (23.6inches actually) and only 1080p so it will just look nicer and have better viewing angles.

If you a few hundred to spend (eg. $300 minimum) then you can move to 27" 1440p and IPS which makes web browsing and study much more enjoyable and potentially increase productivity. Try this search and then google reviews.

    • +2

      To put it simply, no.
For the price it's an excellent budget gaming monitor thanks the the fast response time, higher refresh and freesync.

For general use the colours aren't great and the contrast/gamma is poorly calibrated.

For non gaming use get a cheap IPS display instead.

  • Great now all I need is a free sync mid range card. If only crypto wasn’t going crazy

  • Damn I thought this was the 144Hz version at first. This is a good deal in any case.

  • Have the TN panels been improved or are they still trash with a ridiculously small viewing angle?

    • Better than the past, still don't look as good as IPS, no where near as good.

  • can anyone clarify for me, running this off a laptop with HDMI 1.4A will it run any higher than 60hz?

    • +1

      HDMI 1.4 added support for 4096×2160 at 24 Hz, 3840×2160 at 24, 25, and 30 Hz, and 1920×1080 at 120 Hz.

  • This or Asus VP247H for similar price?

  • Thanks now I have 2. Now to find another rx480 to XFIRE.

  • I just went back to this great deal to buy a couple… seems to be $209 on their eBay site now, which makes it $167 each now.

    • Yeah, I just saw that as well, I was going to purchase 3 at 153.60 but im not buying any any more :(.
I thought changing the price during a sale was illegal…
