Xiaomi Yeelight RGBW e27 Smart Bulb US $10.58 (~AU $13.87) Delivered @ Gearbest

710
SHOPCRED5

Haven't been on sale for a while. Found a good price on Gearbest. I know it has been much cheaper. Anyone try some coupons to bring the price down? One Ozbargainer has come forward with a coupon, any others as this one is limited to 50.

Another good deal if anyone missed out with this one $11.99 USD
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/355373 LHSolutions found it and it works. A coupon with Xmas in it works, might be a glitch.

FREE Postage.

Highly recommended these. I have 3. Works with Google Home really well. Can tell Google what colour you want and what brightness. Turn on individual lights or a group.

There was a deal posted by Brodenit on TB where this was for $13.87 AUD. Code only had 50 uses so not sure if it has expired yet.

Not sure if this is kosher. i think was just supposed to be shared via that website only, so maybe can you post the link to the website with the price, but should you leave the coupon code out, and people can get it from the other site?

      • I think there is a lot of cross posting on these sites. Fair game?

        • not sure =) , I saw that code a couple of days ago, but unfortunately It doesn't do the free postage for NZ, so made it a lot more expensive.

      • Who cares?

    • +2

It appears that the original source of this code is Oursteps, posted there many weeks ago before being posted on TB:

    Coupon works

  • SHOPCRED5 worked for me.. once.

  • Is there a Risk the glass break while in shipping?

    • +4

No, standard yeelight factory packaging is really good. Unless someone stands on it or it gets run over by a truck you are fine. Which could happen with Australia Post. There isn't actually much glass in it anyway. Much stronger than an ordinary bulb.

    • +1

I've ordered probably a dozen, they have all come fine. It's a plastic light cover, no glass.
But they have some pretty solid packaging.

  • worked for me.

  • No worries worked for me. Thanks OP

  • How do you use these in AU bayonet cap style sockets? Can you get adapters? Do they do these globes with the bc end?

    • Sure can. No BC end. Old school connection.

    • The best connectors are from Ikea, but have been deleted from the web and may have been discontinued, although Tempe still had plenty of stock in the lighting department when I was there a couple of weeks ago. The Ikea ones are all plastic on the outside. Otherwise, there's versions on ebay, aliexpress etc, many of which have a metal surround, so I presume its important to check and handle carefully if the power is on when inserting the adapter.

  • Successfully ordered. Cheers!

  • I've been waiting for this for so long!

Code didn't work until I logged in.

  • Who always buys insurance? and who never buys it? I'm confused if it's really worth it or has come in handy?

    • I never buy it - PayPal should cover it as far as I understand.

    • +1

No not required. Make a video of the unboxing. Gearbest have been good with me in the past with a broken item. Sent me a new one when I sent photos.

      • +1

Thanks .. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. LITB is horrible.

  • Worked for me. Need to be logged in first. Works for one item only.

  • Expired ;(

  • Can we please get some more Xiaomi deals and with more quantity? I've been waiting for this for months

    • +5

You will have people buying 5 or 10 and it ruins it for everyone.

I would prefer to see 100 people get one and try it out, not 20 people getting 5 each.

People are greedy. Pay a bit extra, get a few deals here and there, build up your stock. These are on slim margins.

Imagine how many they would sell and how much do you expect them to stock for you and others? People are willing to pay more for these bulbs and there isn't many alternatives out there at such low prices.

      • +4

Greedy people negging you I think. You're on the money about buying them here and there to build up your stock. More often than not they'll end up being cheaper as time goes by.

Maybe contribute a bit before asking for things like this?

Getting tired of these "give me" attitudes that are rife on OzB these days.

  • These are rare as when on special

  • Planning to use this with the google home.

Do these work on a normal globe socket? I don’t have led and I think led requires modification in order to work.

My lights currently also do not have a dimmer on the switch, would the dimmer function work?

    • Do these work on a normal globe socket?
-> Yes normal E27 socket (ie screw in type)

I don’t have led and I think led requires modification in order to work?
-> It will work in any 240V E27 Bulb socket.

My lights currently also do not have a dimmer on the switch, would the dimmer function work?
-> Yes dimmer function will work. These are not supposed to be used with dimmer socket.

      • Thanks, how are the energy efficiency on these? And do they last as long as a normal globe or as long as an led one?

        • I can test this with my xiaomi power strip. I'll let you know.

        • 12 months+, 3-5 hours/day on average, still going strong. No idea if it will die next week, or sometime in 2030 at this stage. It should be similar to other LED's though.

    • How do these work with Google Home? Can you say “Hey google, turn on living room lights” for example? I think the brightness of these aren’t enough for a living room lamp though - or are they?

      • +1

On youtube you can search for a video about the light bulb and using it with google home.

      • +2

They are bright enough. I use one on a lamp. Yes hey Google turn media on, turn bedroom on, turn media to blue, increase media brightness.

      • -1

Yes, you can give Google Home a range of commands and it seems to understand them pretty well - things like 'Set the hallway light to red' or 'Change the colour of the hallway light to blue' or 'Set the hallway light to 50%'. As far as brightness goes these are actually quite bright - 900 lumens I think. If by lamp you mean a standing or table lamp, with maybe a couple of them, they would certainly be bright enough for most people.

They are also fairly easy to set a scene for, so you could make a scene called 'Red Alert' and have the lights flash Red, Or 'Disco Fever' and have the lights flash 'Red, Yellow, Green and Blue' by voice command. The Yeelight app is mostly in Chinese but you can fiddle with it to get it to work and translate the screens fairly well using Google translate.

        • +1

They are not that bright - 600 lumens only.
          The next version is 800.

        • @voldemort: Yes, you are right. Thanks for correcting me. I just checked my instruction leaflet they are only 600 lumens. Subjectively though I still think they are plenty bright enough for most people's needs - I guess they are somewhere around a 60W incandescent so if you had 2 in lamps in a room that 1200 lumens should be enough for most people.

  • OZb should have some integrated purchase mechanism, buy the time we see the deal, click on few sites enter coupon, its gone.

  • I bought a few of these a few months ago just because they were popular on ozbargain.

Didn't really know if they were going to be useful but they are fantastic!!

  • +1

I bought this one last time it was on sale. Awesome smart bulb.

The great thing about the Xiaomi bulbs is that they work without any extra equipment. All the ones you buy in Australia require you or buy a $70 - $100 hub to control the devices. These ones are independent WiFi and they work great with Google home.

    • -3

But may congest your network traffic with each having their own independent Wi-Fi. Something to consider for the router workload and latency.

      • Hardly mate.

      • If you are doing a smart home, you should have the supporting network.
Running off a single home router is asking for trouble.

        • @forkus: it seems lots of folks don't agree with you hence my -3 neg … IMO, I don't think it matters too much .. I don't think there is any significant noticeable latency. Unless you have experienced this first hand, it is really debatable.

        • @tempura:
Just for the record I didn't neg you.

  • Out of all the Xiaomi sellers (Gearbest, Geekbuying, AliExpress, etc.), who has the best delivery times? I've had some horrible experiences ordering from sites that sell Xiaomi products.

    • +1

Overall I've found GearBest to be pretty good. Better than Geekbuying. Ali is hit and miss, it really depends on the seller there.

Last year I averaged about an order a week with GearBest. Now I'm shopping elsewhere. I had 2 Xiaomi buttons from them go missing. They offered to resend them and ask me to confirm my address. Once I provided my address they said they would only refund one of the units and that's it. They refused to do anything until 60 days since shipment had passed, which means I have no recourse with PayPal. Once you pay for the tracking many GB items can be found elsewhere for a similar price.

      • +1

Why do you not have recourse with PayPal after 60 days? Did gear best refund you after 60 days though

        • +1

The initial offer was to resend the orders registered mail at no cost. When I accepted that they turned around and said they wouldn't give me anything. After pushing they offer to refund one of the orders but not the other. Now I'm stuck going around in circles with them refusing to acknowledge the offer to resend them and every reply just being to refund one of the orders.

When I try opening a dispute with PayPal it doesn't go back as far as these orders. I assumed it was the 60 day dispute limit.

        • +1

@skwashd: that sucks. well then Why would you still recommend gear best here

        • +1

          @skwashd:
PayPal disputes can be opened as far back as 180 days..I had an order that I forgot about with Gearbest and they wouldn't offer a refund even though I did not receive it (had been over 180 days so could not open a PayPal dispute). Someone posted asking about Gearbest's reputation in the forums and there was an active rep and I told the rep about my order. Surprisingly a few days later my money was refunded. Maybe contact the rep on here if it's been over 180 days?

        • +1

@KupoHo: I checked my ticket this morning. The tone had changed and I've been told to expect tracking numbers for the replacement items in the next 3-5 business days. I'm happier it is now being resolved, but it shouldn't take this much effort.

Never judge a company by the service you receive during the initial purchase. Save your judgement for how they handle problems.

  • Great deal, but pretty shitty for it to expire so quickly.

  • 1100 clicks… This deal was originally from another site.

  • Thanks OP

  • We need another price war on these.

    Reps pls send more bulbs

  • +5

    Try code: XMASDEAL3

It should bring it down to $11.99 USD or ~$15.28 AUD

    Hope it works :)

    • Legend

    • Thanks for trying a new code. Updated the post. Worked for me but didn't buy.

      • Lets hope it lasts for at least 20 more orders :) lol

        • Updated the deal but a mod made it expire again.

Copy of the revision from Sun, 14/01/2018.

          Think others will miss out.

EDIT: Mod said because the new coupon is higher than this a new deal has to be created. I cannot edit this deal.

        • Expired. Oh well a few more units for Ozbargainers

    • Dangit, knew I should've checked this post again.

  • These are fantastic. When paired with the Aqara gateway and sensors, homebridge and a raspberry pi, it’s the most seemless home automation system.

  • To convert the screw type into the bayonet type, would this b suitable and safe? So E27 to B22?

    https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Edison-Screw-ES-E27-To-Bayonet-BC-…

    • +2

Isn't that the opposite of what you wan't? these globes are already E27.

You'd want something like https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/B22-to-E27-Socket-Light-Bulb-Lam… (no idea if that product is any good)

      • +1

        Excellent spot! Yes…
I saw it as converting the bulb (E27) to work on the lamp…. But normal people are seeing it as converting the lap B22 to accept the bulb. Nice spot! Thanks.
