Bought this for my parents about a year ago, but it’s not the global version. Overall, it’s a solid phone, great camera and build quality. That said, even with local warranty, this price feels steep considering the phone is already over a year old.

    • +4

Forgot to mention, paid around $500 for the Chinese version when it first came out about a year ago. Still going strong without any issues using a Boost SIM. But at this price, wouldn't pull the trigger.

      • What other alternative in the market has these configurations with the similar price? This was top of the range less than 12 months ago.

        • +2

No idea. I was just talking about the price. On AliExpress, $600 including shipping is pretty standard for this phone.

          • +3

@punky: So $605 for an Australian stock with Australian warranty is a good price then. Since it's only a $5 difference from the AliExpress you mentioned.

            • @HandsomeMonkey: In theory, they're all grey imports. Personally, I'd rather buy it from AliExpress—that's just my preference.

          • +2

@punky: It was around $400 on AliExpress on Black Friday and I got it for about $350 including GST and delivery back then. It was $228 US with a 30 USD off coupon. I'm unable to link where I got it as the store doesn't exist anymore but there is a white one at about $550 here.

  • I'm thinking to get a OnePlus 13 when it's available.. I wonder if this mob are a good option for that sort of imported phone?

    • +4

Hope it doesn’t get black listed by our silly Telcos. So just check before buying.

    • +1

don't get a CN version at least before:
      1. Global version is out
2.you can confirm the phone can be flashed to Oxygen OS, and boot with fastboot re-locked.

      • Thanks both, important checks like this def necc.

  • +4

Agree these are over priced I'd like to see $450 b4 id buy one to replace my redmi note 10 pro that Telstra has killed off .

    • +1

Does it at least work on Optus and/or Vodafone?

      • +1

        Not Optus ,I haven't tried Voda .

        • +1

My RN 10 was also axed from Telsta and Optus, but data and txt are working and hopefully

calls with some settings changes I have been told here.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: My Xiaomi Mi9T was working with just data on Kogan, while calls and text were both blocked. In mid-November, my data got blocked as well.

Year old at this point. Got my Poco F6 for $550 from Ali a while back.

        • No issues with the F6 on Telstra and/or Optus?

  • +9

Be careful buying these overseas phones even if those are genuine global versions. Our silly Telcos in Australia are just blocking these phones randomly. So do check the white lists and black lists (or whatever nonsense) before you buy these overseas phones.

      • +7

What kind of issue are you talking aboy? The 3G shutdown has only recently happened in the last few months.

        • +1

Lol it happened end of last year for me on vodafone, rendered my Poco F3 useless.

      • +2

The white and black lists only came in in November with the new E000 laws.

    • +4

This has been discussed at length in the appropriate forums ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873158 )

This particular phone is safe to buy. It was previously blocked by Optus and they sent out an SMS to all users saying "due to updated information from the manufacturer, your phone is now fine to use and will not be blocked". I bought this exact model for this very reason: it was the only one i was confident 100% would work.

  • +3

should just pin/reference this for grey/import phones:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/1frucmd/australi…
    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11-04/australian-4g-5g-user…

basically as part of 3G shutdown, our local telcos have seemingly implemented whitelist/blacklist of phone that will work on their networks… if not on the list, seemingly blocked…

    • Already discussed in depth here
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/865003

      • +4

Still Really Important to mention in posts like this with "grey import" phones so people can at

least be aware don't you think?

        • +2

Yeh that was what my intention was.

No feedback on whether bargain or not - but as a standard practice until this "whole grey area" is sorted out, it's really a buyer beware situation and reminder - that's all

        • +4

Its not about Grey Imports only. Some xiaomi phones officially sold by JB and HN are also getting blocked. I read that in comments on posts/discussions in reddit and other OZB posts. So not sure if this whole whitelist/blacklist thing is being instigated by bigger brands operating in Australia.

          • +2

@OZBsince2018: Very true. JB still actively selling phones that are not on Optus's whitelist since it's still the most restrictive until they merge them.

            • +1

@Balthraka: Those who bought such phones from JB, HN or other retailers selling these phones officially in Australia, and later their phones get blocked should be entitled to a full refund from these retailers for selling phones which aren’t compatible with Australian laws/standards.

              • @OZBsince2018: Of course they should… But can you be (profanity) going through that process when you could just not buy it to start with?

                • +1

@Balthraka: Thats for those who already owned these phones prior to this new law came into affect i.e. Telcos start blocking these phones.

      • +1

Lol what happened to the sentiment here?

        • +1

Still no guarantee that these or similar other phones won’t be blocked in future.

          • +3

            @OZBsince2018: I know but I think you're missing the point I'm making

The person I replied to in the comment is by OP. The comment I linked to in my comment was also made by OP, but making it seem like it shouldn't be a concern because "Never had an issue in the past 5 or 6 years ."

Then he comes back 15 mins later with the comment I replied to where he seems a little more open to the idea that this 3G shutdown thing should be something considered without any acknowledgement of the sentiment in his earlier comment

  • +1

Coles has a disclaimer at the kiosk basically saying that any phone that has been purchased from them and does not make calls due to the 3g shutdown can be fully refunded.
So in other words, they have no idea what will and won't work.

  • +1

this is like only worth 400 aud in chinese online shopping website

  • +3

I would not recommend this at all to anyone. Besides not being officially supported in Australia, these phones (global) go for less than half this price in many SEA countries and go unsold unless they go for like 1/4th to 1/5th the price. Not only this but common issues with this phone include AMOLED burn, flashing screen, dead pixels, overheating, broken charging port, and bootloop.

    • +3

Sorry but you're full of crap. I've been buying these phones for 10+ years and my family as well. Never had any issues with any of them, totally flawless. Total BS, AMOLED burn, flashing screen, dead pixels, overheating, broken charging port, and bootloop.
