  • what is the price of delivery or is it pick up only?

    • I think the ad says you have to go into the shop to get it. No delivery on this special.

  • I suppose that makes this a Melb only deal then?

    • checked today's SMH. no voucher.

    • +4

Yes, As an employee of Dan Murphy's I can assure you this is a Melb only bargain, They will only match prices from a "physical shop" and that shop has to be within 5km of the dan murphy's. The 5km rule is usually over looked, but depends on what manager is on duty :P

      • +5

        says 10km on your website

        • +2

as an (as of today) ex-employee of DM's, (yay i'm free!!) i agree it is 10km, but i also agree that it is often given much more lenience, I think they go by something along the lines of 'if it's within reasonable driving distance'

so if your DM's is in frankson, and the pricematch is in broadmedows, then, you might be struggling.

This is my take on it, and not anything official.

          PS very good price!

  • +1

great pick up, just went around the work building and ripped up 10 pages lol

Going in this arvo with 5 mates to Dan Murphy and 1st Choice… clear up their stock lol!

Smart marketing by wines direct, free publicity and they won't even have to shell out anything because everyone will go to 1st choice and Dan Murphy!

  • Can anyone post the Melbourne Age ad? would be good to see if this works in Sydney.

    • Originals only accepted.

  • We never get good beer prices in Adelaide. Stupid bottle deposit.

    • +3

Return the bottles and get the money back.

      • Isn't the deposit like 5 cents ???

        • +4

          10c, babe

        • +7

          thanks, toots…

  • Note one of the conditions at 1st choice is that the store has to be within 10km of their store for them match the price. getwines direct also have to have it in stock.

My guess is that getwinesdirect's phone will be running with calls from Dans and 1st choice checking if they have Corona in stock - hopefully they will say yes even they have run out.

  • took my wife with me this afternoon and picked 2 cases in Brighton DM, no question asked!

  • tightarse, another fantastic find! How the hell do you keep finding this stuff? Just bought the last 3 Ages from my newsagency. Off to Dan Murphy's Thomastown to stock up. Thanks again!

    • No probs culos. Just keep those +ve votes coming!!

  • DM's readiness to price match such a low price (relative to their usual RRP) only says that normally we are being completely ripped off buying beer, or buying Corona at least.

  • Just went to Dan's and they're completely sold out or holding back stock to avoid selling at a loss?

Apparently they will get more stock in but no idea when.

    Sigh.

    • Which Dan's did you go to?

      • Ballarat.

        • There goes the 10Km argument. Hehe.

  • Just bought two slabs, first from First Choice, 2nd from Dan's. Dan's would not match or beat from first choices receipt alone, had to have the coupon again.
    Coupon and receipt http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=zo9eoi&s=7
Also both shops about 16km from getwinesdirect shop

      What about a +ve vote?

      • Done, and also thanks for saving me $60.13

    pitty corona tastes like piss!

  • +1

shame its not in Sydney. I love corona, don't care what people say about it. I like my beer mexican style, pale and watery. Makes it more refreshing and enjoyable on a hot summers day. love the clear bottle too.

    • I guess your right, Coronas are only enjoyable when you want slightly flavored water on a 50 degree day.

Heard from a friend that 1st choice or BWS or something in VIC was clearing all their imported beers out and they picked up 4 slabs of Stella Artois (import version) for $29.99 each. bargain.

never see beer bargain in nsw :(

  • Just been at Dan Murphy's in Dandenong Rd East Malvern and picked up a slab of Corona. The cashier had to get a manger to approve, which was done with no problem. Thanks +1

  • Just from the Corio store, I got the second last one with the last being bought in the transaction after me. So all sold out.

  • Heaps in East Malvern!

  • do you need to show the coupon to get HN to price match? I called 1st choice liquor and the guy said I need to present the coupon.

    • Yes you do, and it must be the original which they keep.

  • +1

Any SA newspaper doing the same price?

  • Got a slab at DM's Preston (Bell St) about 6pm. Had to hand over coupon, and pay in cash. Bloke in front of me also used the voucher. Good find for xmas, thanks!

    • Awesome I'll head down to this one after work today and try my luck too! Thanks!

      • unco, how about a +ve vote?

  • edit: nvm

  • Anyone know if the coupon is in today's paper as well? The coupon stated that the promo was running from Thursday to Sunday.

    • getwinesdirect traditionally only run these ads on a wednesday, so I'd guess no to that.

Went to 1st Choice Ashwood last night and no qns asked. slabs were $49.94. They said 8-10 coupons were being redeemed per hour. checkout price was $29.99.
Was 30-odd slabs in the fridge.

getwines must be hurting the 2 big chains with these campaigns as they have limited stock.
DM and FCL have unlimited supply. My understanding is that there's only about $3 made on a slab by the retailer. If thats the case, it's a $17 loss per slab on a grand scale.

      • They're making a shitload more than $3 a carton.

Up here is QLD they have cartons for $42. So you're saying they just have a special and lose $8. Doubt it, they're making a load.

        • I work in merch in a big chain. Trust me supermarket chains dont make losses like that. Specials you see are negotiated with the suppliers and basically they are the ones passing on the specials to you. Not saying the supermarkets arent oing their bit as their the ones who has to negotiate the deals. But the savings you see they will recover alot of it back if not all from suppliers.
If they are selling stuff under what they purchase for they most likely will be making/squeezing money from from suppliers through other means in their trading terms.
Its not about selling products and making money only from consumers these days. Alot of the money these big chains make are from suppliers. Think of supermarkets as big markets where they are selling products for suppliers and the supermarkets will ask for a cut of their profits.
          anyways ill stop boring everyone.
          S.

ps sorry just re-read and it sounds confusing just want to point out im not saying Dan or FCL will get the $20 back from suppliers for these price matches. But the $42 QLD and $50 Vic price and specials on all products you would generally see at stores

  • +2

oh well, they make plenty of profit elsewhere.
Alcohol in Australia is a rip off everywhere. In the US you can pick up a slab of beer for $17.

    • agreed!

    • +1

      but their beer is crap…

  • Got a slab in 1st Choice FRANKSTON!

Much farther than 10km to buywinesdirect in Richmond.

And there was a sign on top of the slabs with the 10km distance clause highlighted, so I thought they wouldn't honour the price match, but I tried anyway and the lady at the register gave me no problems!

    Thanks for the good find!!!!

  • +1

I don't drink Corona but I will vote anyway!

  • +1

    +1 for alcohol.

  • There is also a $29.99 Corona getwinesdirect.com coupon in todays weekend Australian newspaper. (4th dec 2010) World section page 21.

Not sure if it will work for other states as there only physical store is in Melbourne Victoria.

    • I doubt an interstate Dan's will honor the deal as this will be outside their '10km rule'. Would be interesting to see if it actually works for someone. I will add this info to the description. Thanks.

  • +1

Also in today's Melbourne Herald Sun Christmas Gift Guide page 19!

Going to get me another slab today ^_^

    • Well picked up! Thanks.

  • Thanks I got a couple of slabs from Berwick and Rowville today no problems at all (and they are much frurther than 10kms from getwinesdirect.com!)

Also they seemed to have plenty of stock.

  • Perth Dan Murphys at Balga just got my Corona at $30 using forementioned vouchor. Also picked up Heiniken & Crown for $40. Cheers
