They've been trying to flog this exact model for about 18m.
Pricing is dropping too slowly considering the price of other TV's,
It's under $1,000, but I picked up the 65" one without the "better" speakers for $600 about 6 months ago.
I figured for the $600 difference (back then), you can buy a separate sound bar or connect to your hifi.

So even at this price I dont think its worth it.
I can't remember the model number off by heart, but its something ending with 15a or 16a or something.
About $600-700 if you wait every few months for a 'sale'. This one one has virtually the same specs, but has these wizz-bang speakers.

Just checked out their website, they are out of stock of the one I was referring to (and a lot of other ones too).
They look to be clearing out the decks for the next influx of screens from Samsung and the like. Sound about right, they are due for some newer releases as its been a while. If you need a tv RIGHT NOW, OP's one is your best bet. Otherwise if you can wait a little longer there will be better options available.
This nakamitchi one has been on their shelves for a couple of years now. Always asking just that little bit too much.

Gotta agree, Google Cache shows this was $899 just 6 days ago. This is just a fake sale with a fake price reduction.

      • Can buy it for $949 with ebay code P5OZZIE

      • Soniq prices fluctuate all the time. Their TV's have actually gone UP in price over the last few months. Must be a big sale coming up.

      • How do you access google cache??

        • Google search with desktop view, the little drop down arrow next to the URL.
I think there's also a shortcut by putting cache: or something at the front of URLs

Nakamichi in budget brands. How times have changed…

    • That company is long gone. Soniq is just grasping at straws for some brand recognition.

I remember when Nakamichi was awesome. They made some sweet car audio back in the day.

    • Nakamichi these days is just bargain basement chinese stuff

I bought one of the subwoofers before i realised the company had been slashed and burned. Needless to say, I was disappointed with it.

  • Soniq..I had bad experience with these TV and it broke twice in 2 month..Stay away!!!

    • It's got 3 year warranty, does it?

      • Yes,to claim the warranty..we need to take it for replacement …during business hours …

  • not the same nakamichi of old

    • Like Akai, Teac, a brand lost, now bought to help sell sub-contracted phocraptronics

      • but unlike those - and yes they did make some great gear - Nakamichi were rolls Royce grade

        • Actually, so were some (very few) of the Teacs and Akais- not many (but a few) came here in specialty places and pro studios-

          E.g. C3 and V-3000/5000/7000

          https://www.vintagecassette.com/teac/v_7000

Akai, known for reel to reel excellence
          http://img.canuckaudiomart.com/uploads/large/1568282-akai-gx…

and many other things. They were a cassette deck pioneer, introducing affordable tech in both prosumer and later to consumer markets, where they led ith their famously durable high-end heads and brilliant mechanicals. They were one of Nakamischi's biggest competitors globally, also troubling Sony and other big hi-fi brands (to name only a couple; GX-912, GX-95, etc. there were lots, a few of which came to Aus), but they made big amps and audiophile equipment before it became fashinable outside of Japan and niche US markets.

With history like this, the brands are destined never to reach their previous heights. The people who used to make that gear in Japan would be shocked to see where those brands have ended up in many countries.

Very sad heard Nakamichi associate with sonic

  • Pro's are :

    • 100hz refresh
    • decent motion engine
    • bright, minor bleed but good colours with pop and depth
    • speakers are better than a standard tv's and saves buying a soundbar

    Con's are :

    • smart tv is old andriod 4.4.4 & has limited apps, no freeview ~ buy a chromecast or add an xbox1/ps4
    • no HDR (although to its credit colors are pretty good without and most HDR sucks as they lack brightess needed anyway)
    • return for warranty a pain in the ass!

Value, at <1k its up against KOGAN and ALDI. ALDI smart TV is a step backwards and it needs a soundbar, as does the KOGAN. Customer service would go to Kogan but anyones that delt with them will tell you that damming with feint praise! You need to double prices to $2k for QLED screens from Hisene and TCL. Samsung and LG LED offerings are in the $2500 as of this post and QLED and OLED are $4-5k! So IMO its between this and say a TCL www.tclelectronics.com.au/product/x2-65-inch-4k-qled-android…

Having spent time testing and reviewing the TCL offering (better speakers and freeview over the Hisence offeing) and half the cost of the Samsung and LG equivlence, id say use the coupon code on ebay and get the 65X2US but if 1k is your budget, this will be the best of the cheaper offerings.
