  • A price would be nice.

    Edit. $89

  • free shipping???

  • I don't see what the big deal is…

There are many places selling it cheaper…

  • Shipping $6.95 (not included).

You can get a 1TB Seagate from JB for $85. No bargain, move along.

    • a Seagate is not a Western Digital…

      • But a hard drive is still a hard drive, and I think to many people 1TB of external storage is still 1TB of external storage. Western Digital & Seagate are both 'up there' anyway.

But yes, you posted a link to staticice with many cheaper Western Digital 1TBs.

no, they come from different factories so the quality and performance will differ…

        • +2

I'm not saying they ARE same in terms of quality/performance. Just to the average user it will be essentially the same.. like me.

You may find someone with great experiences with Seagate but terrible experiences with Western Digital (and vice versa).

        • +2

I'm an average user too and would only buy Western Digital…

        • +1

I'm in that boat. Only ever used WD/Seagate, had 2 failures, both WD. Average statistics mean very little to the individual.

        • +1

But a hard drive is still a hard drive

          like a car is still a car…..

        • like a car is still a car…..

          And a house is still a house…
but they are much bigger investments than a $100 1TB hard drive

        • $89….

        • Roughly..

      • +1

More like a Western Digital is not a Seagate.

        • Yeah, WD are not the pack of a-holes Seagate are, who continued to sell drives with known faults!!! You might want to google the great 7200.11 debacle before putting SeaCrate up on a pedestal! ;)

        • Ever heard of Western Digital's Caviar Green?
A few models were known faulty, but they still sold them just under their normal price.
Not that I support Seagate though, I'm a full WD supporter.

        • @Michael,

I'm not aware of any problems wholesale with the WD Caviar Greens, certainly nothing like the large scale of problems with the Seagate 7200.11 drives. Nothing obvious in searches! What exactly were the problems, and which particular models?

I also drive Holdens instead for Fords… :P

        • Me too! Holden Rocks

Regarding HDD, the next best brand I found (other than WD) is
Samsung (only the 1TB F3 internal HDD)

Of course I'm currently using a 2TB internal Segate - and loving it

Hey MyDesk (OfficeMax Rep), why didn't you list your Western Digital My Book Elite Edition 1.5TB ?? It's a far better (and genuine!) deal. Only $119 (+ del.), with cheapest price on StatIce being $147. Now that's a bargain!

    • Wow.. very well spotted!

  • Getting a little off topic, but I've had more failures on Seagate than Western Digital… but I'd still rate both on par in terms of being reputable brands. I write off my experience to bad luck, but these are pretty much the only two brands I buy. (If given a preference I'll still take WD though).
