  • FREE entry for FOTZ members :)

    • What's FOTZ?!

        • Interesting..
But joining fee means you'd have to go at least a few times for it to be worth it.

          This deal looks good though!

        • yes… FOTZ is great value when you have small kids… you can drop by the zoo for an hour or so anytime you like…

I purchased it for Melb Zoo, Werribee Zoo and Healsville Sanctuary but noticed i can also get free access interstate, including Taronga…

        • @illumination: I'm also a FOTZ member - if I go to the zoo four times per year, the FOTZ membership is cheaper. As jv notes, it's a very good idea for those people with small kids (which does not include me). Friends with kids who are FOTZ members tell me that when the kids start getting irritable, they simply go home and come back another day. In comparison, those who are paying for a single daily entrance often struggle to keep the kids entertained, dragging them around all arvo to the point of exhaustion, because they want to get their money's worth.

I go to Melbourne/Werribee zoos ~15 times per year and have accessed all the other zoos for free with reciprocal membership (Taronga Zoo, Perth Zoo, Adelaide Zoo, Western Plains Zoo, Monarto Zoo) several times.

That said, if you don't intend to go to the zoo that often, xdzzy has found an excellent deal!

        • Is this unlimited access to Taranga Zoo as well? thank you

@ froggyalice: Yes. One interesting thing is that you don't need to join in the state you live in. Therefore, technically you could live next to Taronga Zoo and join the Melbourne Zoo FOTZ program. Or vice versa, of course. There's a couple of downsides..

          1. You will be sent the magazine of the zoo you join (which sometimes contains activities for members such as night visits, or face painting for kids, school holiday programs, etc), and that information won't be relevant to you.

          2. You're not directly funding the zoo you'll visit most often.

          3. You might get a funny look visiting the zoo every second day when you have what appears to be an interstate membership (though they may just think you've moved from interstate and have the old card still).

          4. You can't vote in the AGM for your zoo so if you're happy/unhappy with the service you're getting, you have no voice.

That said, the price of becoming a single adult member varies from state to state…

          TARONGA & WESTERN PLAINS
          $10 joining fee + $107.50/yr

          MELBOURNE, HEALESVILLE & WERRIBEE
          $15 joining fee + $86.50/yr

          ADELAIDE & MONARTO
          $20 joining fee + $97.00/yr

          PERTH
          $0 joining fee + $75.00/yr

… so if you were willing to give up the benefits of local membership, you could technically save considerably by joining Perth's program. ;-)

        • thank you very much ~~ that would be a good x'mas present for our family!!
