Isn't this completely overpriced unless you have cable TV (lol cable tv).

well.. if you want to have TV running on your phone and tablet and anywhere within the house.. then it is worth it.

      • can do that and more with tvheadend and some skills

        • +3

Which is more expensive. Buying a pc and tv tuner and running all the time.

        • ive got tvheadend going currently but im hanging out for the new quad tuner hdhomeruns

    • If you run PLEX or EMBY then one of these makes timeshifting tv easy but there are certainly cheaper ways to do it.

Does it pick up the h264 channels?

  • I got one of these last year. Love it!!!

Team this up with plex and its an awesome DVR!

My Sony 4K also picks up the channels natively without the use of the app

    • Which Sony?

      • KD65X7500D

        • Do you mean it finds the channels via DLNA?

        • @voltagex: yup but they are intergrated with the digital channels so you wouldn't know any different

    • Your tv has an aerial connection. So whats the point?

      • Most Tvs only have a single tv tuner so can’t record and watch other channels.

It's in a room with no cable ;)

        • Sensible answer! Thanks :)

If you set these up with a PC running MythTV (open-source video recorder), they'll record up to eight channels at once (i.e ABC1, 2, Kids, and their 24hr channel are all on one actual radio channel, so only need one tuner for all four), it'll skip ads automatically, record based on keywords/actor/director etc, and re-broadcast TV to any device in the house.

I just wish free-to-air had something I want to see.

just a heads up that these are now classed as "legacy" models. the new model should be released in aus Q1 next year (according to silicon dust)

Do you have any more detail about this?

      Ah, found the thread…

      https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66439

Not much detail about what’s different, except better signal and more tuners…. anything else?

nah nothing else im aware of. was just a FYI really and maybe the reasoning for the cheaper price

  • I have mine running on the Apple TV 4 with Channels app.

Silicondust have their own app which allows you to watch live tv on iOS and android. They also have DVR software which can be loaded onto some Intel or arm base NAS's.

  • Currently available for $147 + free shipping from NewMedia.com.au

Was looking to buy one for my Media PC as my current TV's tuner does not support the new h264 channels
