    this or Mi Pro

    • I don't mean to sway your opinion, but, Mi Pro is apparently noisy at load and has a glossy (glare prone) screen. I'm sure this laptop has its little niggles, I just haven't looked at it much.

    • if you dont mind the 1080p on the mi pro. I am using the pro atm, its very well built, almost exactly like mba.

    • I'm waiting for a similar price on the Mi Pro, but this is a pretty great price for the specs. I'd assume this (hopefully) has better warranty too since it's via Amazon

    • One more thing to consider a ryzen based 2500u.

      https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/amd-ryzen-mobile-vs-intel…

Which RRP is $100 USD cheaper than a 8250u without a discrete GPU.

  • going from macbook air should i go for this?

    • This is a little heavier/bigger than a macbook air. Won't have as good battery either since it has a dedicated GPU. I'd suggest a 13" laptop.

      • Ok. I’ll keep a lookout. Thank you

Windows 10 has in-built power options to set the GPU to only activate when it requires the extra computing power.

    What about warranty?

    Does this include au plug?

Easy to change SSD to HDD??

    • +6

You could… but why on earth would you?

        maybe he's going into Space.

    • You wanna put the ssd in something else?

  • Ahh bugger ok so HDD > SSD, my bad.

    • +4

You are still backwards mate… SSD (fast, no moving parts) > (greater than) HDD (slow, spinning platters)

    • The Swift 3 has a dedicated GPU which is useful if you want to play games. The SSD on the Swift 3 will make it feel much faster than the Vivobook's HDD.
The Vivobook is cheaper and you can use the money saved to switch the HDD to an SSD. The Vivobook also has a larger screen, with a smaller bezel.

      Both seem like good buys.

  • From what I can tell, memory on these ones is soldered down, so you're stuck with 8GB. SSD is an M.2 2280 stick, some models have HDD bays, not sure if it's a universal thing.

    Here's a review: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Swift-3-SF315-8250U-MX150…

  • But will it run Crysis?

But seriously, will this run Sims 4 and Minecraft nicely enough?

    • +1

Yes, it will be able to handle those games fine with the MX150

  • I picked up the Dell Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1 with very similar specs for $580 on Black Friday - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075KPJBNK/ref=od_aui_deta…

I got it for my dad and even though it has no SSD, there'a free m.2 slot to upgrade. I was thinking I might even pop in an intel optane module in the future. Keep it simple, not reinstall the OS.

That said at the time they weren't shipping to AU, so i had to use a forwarder… Maybe keep an eye out on that one if you're after a 2-in-1, it might come back down to $580.

  • Will this run Mixed Reality?

    • +1

Whilst it meets Microsoft's minimum requirements, it won't run most of the big games very well. The MX150 graphics card is fairly basic, you'll want at least a 1050ti for solid VR gaming.
