The 8GB Touch for $170 seems like the only good trade in. And they only pay $5 extra for a 16gb vs an 8gb :/

    • Even though its only another $5 I don't think you will find a better deal anywhere else, that is unless you rather cash. In which case your sacrificing $50 or so and the effort involved in selling. lol

      • +6

Better value would be to just keep it & use it! ;)

      • ive got a 32gb 2nd gen which is great, but i only use 8gb. So i think i'd prefer to sell it on ebay and hopefully i can pick up 4th gen 8gb for around $200 around christmas time.

$180 doesnt really seem worth it just for store credit.

        • +2

Yes, definitely you'll be better off with eBay. But I have a quite scratched 8GB, which would have trouble fetching $200 in eBay, then all the eBay and PayPal fees come to around $15, the risk of dodgy buyer, Post losing it… nah, I think I will take EB's offer. The extra $10 you get for 32GB compared to the 8GB model is just too little.

  • +7

$95 for my 8GB 5th Generation Nano + having to spend it at EB where games are more expensive than most places… not what I'd call "insane".

    • heard of "PRICE MATCH?"

btw you don't have to trade in your nano if you don't want to

but for 2nd gen ipod touch people

it's a good deal especially those who got them as soon as it was out

      • +6

        still isn't INSANE…

        • +9

Maybe mildly neurotic, imbecilic, or moronic, but not insane :-)

      • -1

"Not to be combined with any other offer." Don't know if that includes price matching, but it wouldn't surprised me if some try to get out it using that clause.

        • lol you Get a gift card. Spend it on whatever you want. I assume it would mean trade in bonuses, for example the VIP card that gives you an extra 10%.

      • +1

EB's, like many other company's price match policy, is dodgy at best.

    • I like that.
Hehehe Eb is the new Harvey Norman.

    • man, just wait until they have an epic games sale and hit it!

  • +2

Wow, $170 trade-in for the 8gb 2nd gen touch. Really kicking myself now for not buying the one I saw in Cash Converters for $110 as i would have made a profit! Oh well…bills came first…damn bills…

  • -1

    DAMN! No 1st Gen trade-in =S
even if it was like a $100 for 16GB i would do it…

    • +1

      I wouldn't, my 16gb 1st gen works like a champion! :)

  • +5

So why exactly do EB want all these old ipods?

    • +10

      PS3 jailbreaking? ;)

      • +3

sounds interesting, can someone elaborate or link on this?

        • PSFreedom runs on iphonelinux which runs on 2g and 3g iphones and old ipod touches. http://psfreedom.com/wiki/IPhoneLinux

PSGroove has been ported to rockbox, that covers some ipods. Google psgroove rockbox.

  • not a bad price for the 4gb nano, I put mine through the wash and sold it on ebay for $60 on ebay after the water dried and it ended up still working

    • lol brain not working this early?

      • nope, pre occupied with e-rage over a slow internet connection, nice typo hey

    • That nano has some history. Remind me not to buy off you from ebay ;)

  • Do they sell ipods? Want to trade up.

  • Hardly seems "INSANE" to me.

  • Is the one released last september 2nd or 3rd gen?
    edit: disregard that (dtisc)

    • To clear things up the one released last september were 3rd gen
but the 8gb was never updated and still a 2nd gen, only the other sizes were updated.

  • Now I want to trade in my 2nd gen 8GB iPod Touch and get 4th gen model. Too bad EB Games' prices for the them are not the best ($268) compared to Kmart ($239). But they should price match them too, shouldn't they? Do they still have the customer card, whatever it's name was? And if so, does that increase the trade-in value of hardware? Been too long since I went there, can't remember.

  • +4

Just sell it on eBay. You'll get way more money.

    • Agree if its in good condition you can get more I checked completed listings

  • Gah! And I was selling my 2nd Gen 16GB iPod touch for $150!!! By the way, I had a little look around and you need to also include the USB Dock cable as well. Just thought I'd throw this out cause if you just walk in with your iPod and no cable, they might not accept it. Source: http://www.ebgames.com.au/trade/trade-what.aspx (then click on iPod)

  • What happens if the screen is scratched ? Will they lower the trade in price ? My ipod is working fine but it just shows signs of lots of wear and tear and has a dent on it too. Thanks all.

  • I don't think they sell any Apple stuff such as ipod… Otherwise would not mind upgrade my old 8g ipod to the new one for another $67!

  • +6

Don't forget people, this is EB Store Credit, not cash!

I don't know how it differs state to state, but in QLD you can opt to take cash and they take 20% off the value, so you get $80 cash or $100 credit.
As far as I know you cannot opt to take cash in NSW.

  • pity it's for short time.

otherwise ebay america broken Ipod 2g including shipping $70…….

  • Haha bummer was hoping I could offload my 1st Gen Ipod Mini… think I got it way back in 2004. Anyone know where I could sell this apart from ebay?

    • +1

Umm, you can use it to get 10% off for new iPod at Apple retail store through its recycling program (http://www.apple.com/recycling/nationalservices/asiapac.html)

      quote "Apple Recycling in Australia

      Electronic Equipment
Recycle unwanted electronic equipment free of charge at local community events. Purchase any qualifying Apple computer or display at any Apple Retail Store or at the online Apple Store and receive free recycling of your old computer and monitor. Or get 10% off a new iPod when you bring in your old iPod for recycling.*"

Not sure it is a good deal or not but for such an old model like yours, it might be a reasonable choice.

      • Cheers for the info. Never knew of the recycling program.

    • +1

A 6 year old iPod is like a 60 year old car, you really won't find any good price for a device with a yearly product cycle unless you get rid of it quite quickly. Either cash it in at the recycling program, or just hold onto it. I have my old mini (2nd gen) permanently sitting on a dock for this reason.

      • +3

Actually, you'd find a 60 year old car to be worth quite a bit today, as long as it's not a completely rusted out heap :-)

        • hell yeah, vintage cars are worth a fortune nowadays!
          your analogy = fail ;)
but i agree, better to hold on to old tech and use rather than selling for peanuts. i put all my old gadgets and devices to good use.

  • So what are the T&C of this offer? Do they have to be fully functioning units? I have a 2nd Gen 16Gb touch which works fine but the charging connector is a bit hit and miss (you have to wiggle to get it to charge).

    • So they say, but from my trade-in experiences at EB they only ask you and give you the benefit of the doubt. Although they do verify and record your details so there are limits e.g. you wouldn't trade in a cactus ipod and expect them to take it. It sounds like a minor issue so I wouldn't worry and go ahead and trade it, just don't be too honest and mention it to the clerk(or he may refuse).

  • Seem that apple wanna buy back the touch screen then…

  • This is a pretty good promotion, and is likely as good a price as you'll find anywhere (without resorting to ebay), and not worry about listing, shipping etc. It is EBGames credit, but they're always willing to price-match so if you're into that sort of thing, it'll be nice to hold onto the credit.

  • What about my immaculate 4GB Gen 1 Nano? They're still the sexiest design of the lot.

    • worthless

    • That was a good one wasn't it. Mine is in the drawer, can't bear to part with it. I even had a neck lanyard with built in headphones which is still fricking handy. Why did those die?

      • i think they died because they are seriously ugly lol

  • Are EB having an iPod rave party?

  • Does the iPod have to be in working condition?

  • "Not to be combined with any other offer" mean can't be combined with EDGE card or this offer?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/34069

    Anyone tried?

  • +1

EB want to start selling 2nd hand iPods?

Looking for an iPod classic 160GB.

I'll better those prices by 10%. Does that make my offer a bargain of its own? :-)

  • I have a iPod Touch 8GB (3rd gen/2nd gen), I got it when the 3rd gen's were released but as there has been no hardware changes it's still a 2nd gen.

I have a iPhone 4 now, The iPod isn't being put to use. Do you guys think that it's worth a trade in?

Any bargains on at EB at the moment that I can spend the credit on?

    • Personally, I'd keep the ipod & trade in the iphone! :p

Seriously though, you could find something you like elsewhere that EB also sell & get them to price match it; might lighten the Xmas burden! ;)

  • would they take an iPhone 3G 16GB? I want to get a PS3

    • You'd get better money for it on ebay! ;)

  • If this was for cash, I'd have sold my 8GB iPod Touch without thinking twice. It kills the deal that this is just for store credit and Ebgames' games are ridiculously overpriced. Still, would help you if you're buying a console or something.

    • +1

      you could price-match.

  • just asked my friend that want to trade their ipod touch for $130 and he was about to get a new one. That would seem bargain to me for $40 extra bucks.

  • Its a bargain for ipod touch 2nd gen 8-16 atleast, not sure about the others and thats only if you would spend cash on games anyway lol.

  • How long does credit last?

Might wait for a Nintendo 3DS lol.

    • I'm not sure about Queensland, but in Vic we can put the credit on a gift card; and on the back it has "No expiration" written on it.

  • Has anyone tried EB's pricematching policy? Will they match Kmart's $239?

    • Kmart's $239 what?

      • hahah whoops. Their 8GB ipod touch. :)

    • Yes they do - I just traded in my 8GB 2nd gen touch for the current 8gb one for $69.

      • Nice, exactly what I plan to do tomorrow.

Was going to go today, but got held up with something :/

Did you just tell them KMart had it at $239? Or did they want to see proof?

        • I just told them kmart had it for $239. She thought I said $220 and was gonna do it at that price, but then she asked again just before putting it through and i had to say $239. ahaha..

        • Ended up going today. Got my store credit/gift card, but left iPodless. They had run out of 8GB ones. They gave me stock levels of every store close by, but the two I called were out too, despite their stock sheets saying there was a few (2-4) available. Was told that its only updated daily, so guess they made quite a bit of business in the last few hours .

All stores said should get more in early next week, so I'll keep trying other stores or just wait it out. KMart sale ends 1st Dec from memory, took a catalogue from the store today, so I'll just carry it with me for proof.

        • i rang my local one up this morning and they said they had one or two left.. so i went right away! I figured it would be a popular upgrade.

…then when i got there, the lady had no idea how to do a trade-in even though it's more than halfway through the trade-in promo. She said she hasn't done one before. Another store that I rang up had never done it either, so I guess it isn't as hot as i expected. Maybe everyone bought 16GB touches instead..

      • I think the manager put my trade-in through, so it was fine. He just played with it for a maybe a minute to make sure it worked (I had set it back to factory settings). Luckily he didn't play with the volume controls, they're a little bit flaky lately (still work, but sometimes need to press a bit hard). Those rocker volume buttons were a stupid idea. I think the 4th gen ones will last much longer (separate buttons).

He asked if I had the earphones with me, and I said no, since online it just said the USB cable and the iPod. He then said don't worry about it. Wonder if I did have them and told him, what he would have done.

Oh well, I'll ring up every store within 10km tomorrow morning and hope that one has something in stock. Rather get it over and done with sooner rather than risk the KMart special running out and I'm still without a new iPod.

  • Man I'm annoyed, I traded my 2nd gen 8GB Ipod touch at the start of the month and only got $100 credit. At the time the offer was new and there was a $20 bonus trade in credit for that 8GB model so I thought it was a great deal and wanted to get in quick before I missed out.

  • OK now an owner of a new 4th gen iPod Touch. Put one on reserve yesterday at a store a bit far away and picked it up just then.

Too paranoid to start using it properly though, until my replacement invisible shield gets here. Made the mistake with the last one of thinking it won't get scratched too badly. It was horrible after only a week. Even a silicon case didn't really help since any dust that got caught between the inside of the case and the steel back just kept rubbing itself against the steel (hence the eventual invisibleshield). Really, really stupid design decision there by apple.

    • haha yes i haven't opened mine either. I'm waiting for my $5 stealthguard to arrive. I used to be an invisibleshield user till I tried stealthguard.

      Apple's famous for form-over-function. Sigh.

  • Do they need the earphones for the trade in?

    Just the ipod?

    • Just the ipod and sync cable. No need earphones. It's probably a bit unsanitary anyway.

  • Hahaha. I ended up trading it in.

The store manager just "slid to unlock" and he's like yup it works go pick out a giftcard.

    • LOL!
I wonder if he knew how to use it…

      • I wonder that myself when gave the girl an ipod touch (8G) and a ipod classic to trade-in. She didn't even turn on the classic.

  • this deal might still be going- i traded a 2nd gen touch for 4th gen 32gb (pricematched to big w's $358) today! my old one was in working but dodgy condition
