WARNING: On Moto G5s, the second SIM slot is shared with the microSD card.

I consider this is a major step backwards from previous iterations of G line.
I'm now looking for an alternative for my next phone. Sadly B28, NFC, Dual SIM, dedicated microSD and close to stock Android seems like a rare combination.

Yeah idk why they r doing the Xiaomi thing here with the 2nd sim slot

      • It's becoming a common practice to reduce space taken up by an extra slot on the inside of the phone, makes things easier for manufacturers and worse for consumers.

Ive had a mobile phone 10 years+ and never need a second sim.
I assume a lot of people are the same, so I can see why manufacturers feel they dont need a dedicated sim card.

Plus a lot of people wont need the full 32gb so wont need to a use a microsd card.

There is probably a very small percentage that need both a microsd and a second sim card at the same time.

        • if you have unlimited call plan the 2nd sim becomes less of a deal …. used to be handy when you had free calls to others on same carrier eg family but calls are unlimited now on $30+ plans.

@elzilcho: If you have separate work & personal numbers then dual SIM means carrying only one phone. Having a microSD card means you can buy a cheaper phone and also increases the longevity of a phone because in 2 years time 128GB microSD will hopefully cost around the same price as 32GB today.

“Sadly B28, NFC, Dual SIM, dedicated microSD and close to stock Android seems like a rare combination.”

      Agreed.

That's y I still think the moto z play is the best bang for the bucks when i bought it at 367, oz stock

      • Yep, the Moto Z Play is a great phone that ticks those mentioned boxes.

Don't forget the immensely popular and similarly spec Moto G5+ ticks a lot of those boxes too for potentially less.

    • +1

Lenovo P2. Seems to tick all the boxes BUT camera is mid range.

  • DWI has this for $289 if you are ok with gray import. For a budget phone like this gray stock imho offers better value.

    • grey

    • More like around $350 delivered or $324 delivered from their ebay store.

      • +2

Why buy from ebay? Just use the dwi website. Often cheaper for sellers as no ebay seller fees.

        https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/motorola-moto-g5-plus-x…

Delivery is free. There is a $10 off coupon that sometimes comes up on a banner. You maybe able to use that to get price down to $279. I havent tried.

        • OK. Looks like we both missed a few things. Because I live regional, my lowest price shipping cost is $32.90, that's how I got to that figure for the newer Moto G5S+ model that the OP posted here, not the older, cheaper G5+ model that your link goes to.

Both great phones, especially if you can get them for good prices. Grabbed the G5+ 32GB/4GB model with bonus 16GB micro sd and cable for $304 delivered to my 2483 area from DWI ebay with 10% off code two months ago and Moto G5+ 16GB/3GB local model for $238 from the Good Guys ebay ( supposed to be C&C but they mailed it out in two days same price automatically ).

So your deal is great and works for many, other deals work maybe better for others considering higher delivery cost or even distance/transport costs to collect items.

I think this great value and very tempting… OK so this does have NFC I misread the first post. I actually saw it at Officeworks yesterday and thought holy crap that is cheap but I wonder if it will go under $300 for taxation purposes.

    • +3

under $300 would be grey import , it’s the plus model with the bigger screen so will be a fair whi.e before it gets to $300 and you might need an ebay 20% off.

it’s a phone i was going to buy a few months ago as my old phone broke , ended up with LG v20 for $360 grey import ……. moto would have been nicer phone.

I’ve been sitting on the fence indecisive between this and zte axon 7 both from officeworks with similar prices

    • +1

I got the axon 7. I think the 1440p AMOLED screen and speakers, 4gb ram, 64gb storage, daydream compatibility put it above the moto g.

Edit: and faster processor? I believe the 820 is faster than 625.

      • +1

The Axon 7 is a great for that price and tempted myself. For others software and updates would be better for Moto maybe.

        • Just received the Axon 7. Ordered before 11:30, received 15:30. Thank you OZBargain and Officeworks.

    • +1

Loving my Axon 7. Sound is incredible. Only concern is no apparent IP rating. Maybe the moto is more water resistant.

Any chance you guys with Tels. and tried out VoLTE? I’m super keen with this function i.e. both talk/phone call and internet work over 4G concurrently.

      • Not me. Amaysim.

      • Telstra business, no VoLTE with Axon 7. Drops to 3G.
