  • in white would be nice.

    • +3

Not sure if that would work. This is darkly tinted plastic to allow the IR to pass through.

      • White with a clear plastic top with a silver one-way mirror tint?

  • Anyone know if you can get these working with Google Home?

    • +2

It's possible to integrate it into home assistant as a custom component for google home support, it took me quite a bit of messing around to do though and adding commands and such is quite tedious the way i've worked out

      • Hi @emm2600x, are you also using the xiaomi gateway with this?

are you able to give me a few pointers, everything is in HASSIO, just need to set up some automations.

      • Hmm. I just set up a couple of Broadlink minis with HA. I'm heavily invested in Xiaomi gear, but didn't know that this existed. I might have learned this way if I'd known.

  • I've got these: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/346523

Cheaper and do everything the Xiaomi ones do?

    • Not if you want to connect to Xiaomi Smart Home Gateway. I am thinking of setting up like turing on Air Conditioner when certain temperature is reached or turning on TV when motion sensor detect movement in the morning.

      • You seem like a good person to ask… Have you got time based mi home rules working?
I'm trying to make something happen after sunset, but the app can't find my location, and all the other options are in Chinese. Also the home screen temp in the app always low (presumably defaults to China!)

        Any tips?

        • +1

I've got time based rules working fine. Set locale to china. Need the temp sensor device as an addon.

        • @kiwijunglist:
How did you get it going?
I don't have specific 'time of day' rule options, and the after sunset settings don't work

        • @heineken016: on the mi home app, when you are setting up the condition rules, looking at bottom of the screen and there is time schedule you can set.

        • @ozizoy:
Ah cheers I hadn't seen that.
Anyone had any luck with the sunset thing?

        • @heineken016: add if condition, device=gateway condition=is dark.

Don't think there is sunset option. Try above or set a time.

        • @kiwijunglist:
Cheers. My gateway is inside so doesn't quite work as the lights are in a different room!

Sunset conditions are there, guess it's just one of those things that may or may not get translated!

        • @heineken016: oh i didn't notice there was sunset conditions. Not sure I'd that'd work bc the gateway doesn't actually know where it is (thinks it's in China).

        • @kiwijunglist:
Yeah yeah that's what I was badly trying to ask originally. Thought that it could geolocate me for general temp /sunset times, even though I'm using the china server… But maybe not!

Anyway will be checking out Hope Assistant soon đź‘Ť

        • @heineken016: I'll be going to home assistant in the future too, but probably not until i encounter things that the xiaomi hub can't do for me.

      • how can i get the app to find it? help lol

    • +1

Yep. I'll be mixing Broadlink black bean with Xiaomi sensors thanks to Home Assistant.

      • That's what I have. HASS is more expensive if you have to buy a Pi to run it on, but not if you're using an old PC or NAS to run it (old laptop in my case). HASS keeps everything on your local network and avoids latency if internet is slow or down, as well as better privacy and easier to setup more complex automations.

  • Just watched the video on the page, @ozizoy is your app in english?

    • +1

Xiaomi mi home is 95% English 5% Chinese.

  • +1

Can this take over from a Logitech harmony remote? So I can say, hey google, watch channel 9. And it can switch in my tv, amp, set hdmi 1 on amp output, switch on my digital receiver, and then select channel 90 on digital receiver?

    That would be pretty cool.

    • -1

Would live to know as well.

  • Can anyone confirm if one device is needed to remote control 5 appliances? or is it one device per appliance?

    • +1

One Xiaomi device can control many appliances. E.g. A TV, aircon, DVD player all within one device.

  • This device just turned up and for the life of me I can't get the app to talk to it at all.
Update: Got it to talk to the device but the app is all in Chinese….pass.

    • +1

me too. Connected via mi home, but everything is in chinese. no point.

      • Seems like if you’re on Android you get access to a “mi remote” app - which is significantly more usable than the MiHome app.

I did manage to get it to work on my iPhone 7 - after much hair pulling.

        All hope is not lost!

  • Op: Can we add that the mi remote app is only available in google play?
